I drove New Look buses at my university where the ex-municipal units were used as campus shuttles. They were outdated, crude, lacked comfort features for driver and passengers, and steering them was was a workout without power steering. Yet strangely it was very enjoyable and the two examples we had were always a favorite for us drivers! Many preferred them to the newer buses at the time, and if I remember correctly, their dispatch reliability was better than all the other buses in our eclectic little fleet!
The GMC New Look was the best ever bus there is. This was a mainstay in many cities in the United States and Canada. A friend I know has one one used by Fun Bus down Southern California. It is a 1981 GMC T6H-4523N which was built in Canada and it is essentially an imported or foreign vehicle.
For a long time I thought I was the only extreme bus enthusiasts, but that's a wonderful feeling when you find out you're not alone. My first word I ever spoke when I was little baby was bus, believe it or not.
Very cool video I'm now 49 years old from downtown Hamilton Ontario Canada and grew up in Toronto and remember riding those late 60's and 70's GMC buses alot.
I can smell the GM New Look bus. They were my hometowns entire fleet forever, specifically generation 2’s. They still use them for emergency service when the new buses are down :)
Those New Looks are gorgeous, as are the others with the stainless steel cladding. (And I'm a sucker for the GM RTS bus in the background at 1:44 too!) Glad to see these are still being cared for so that future generations can enjoy and appreciate them.
This is so awesome! I used to drive for Texas A&M university. Their fleet back then was an exclusive RTS fleet made by nova bus and millennium transportation.
I used to drive city bus. When I left, they brought out a new fleet of CNG powered buses. Those things were fast. They couldn't handle highways that well, but they were a blast to throw around the city compared to the garbage hybrid buses that were barely putzing around. The fact is, most bus companies out there still us and prefer diesel. The only time you'll find a fully electric bus is in jam packed cities like D.C., and even then, those buses cant go for more than 8 hours without needing a charge. Public transportation will be relying on Diesel and CNG for many decades to come.
If I wanted to bring my own bus to the Spring Fling, it would not just be a school bus, but also a different type of bus that is associated with a university.
@@emilianoperezdominguez8642 besides Irizar, I know Van Hool, Daimler (Setra and Thomas, previously Orion), Volvo (Prevost and NovaBus) and Temsa are in the US market. @@42luke93 The original GMC design for the RTS was from the 1970's, the first series went into production around 1977. One of the RTS's they showed in the background was from the initial production series run, from Long Beach Public Transit.
some of the info here is incorrect as well as the pronunciation of the name Fageol. The fishbowl bus shown here was not used in the film. This one has a glaring difference between it and the real movie bus. The missing "D" window on the right side. This was common on the 1986 Canadian made buses. The last year they were made GM must have run out of parts and they didn't have right side "D" windows. Also they showed a flxible bus when they were talking about a Scenicruiser.
GLI (Greyhound-USA) did not operate MC-9's with manual transmissions. The last GLI buses with manual transmissions were the 1973 MC-7's, GLI's MC-8's, MC-9's, 96-A3's, 102-A3's, 102-D3's, 102-DL3's/D-4500's, G-4100's/4500's, & Prevost X-3's have all been automatic transmissions, so Mr. Nelson must have driven another company's MC-9 if it was a manual transmission.

Greyhound Canada has gone out of business due to a lack of ridership. Half of all long-distance bus companies in Canada have disappeared over the past 4 years. Everyone is either flying to taking their car.
As cool as it is to see these classic buses, it's sad to see 5180, the GM fishbowl from Santa Monica, being the most misrepresented bus in their collection. That bus was never part of the movie Speed, although the ones used in the movie were painted similar. The movie ones were decalled differently from the actual to give that degree lf separation. This bus was never used as a backup in Speed, nor was it even on any of the production sets. The real and only key valid history of this bus is 5180 is the absolute last GM fishbowl bus off the production line from Canada, and built 9 years after the last GM fishbowl came off the US assembly line.
I love the way old busses look. So much character.

A legendary bus used by many transit agencies in the United States and Canada.
Thanks Motorweek for talking about buses I’m into the vintage stuff
Beautiful buses
I always think of the military who rode busses to boot camp or back home after a tour of duty. Awesome.

Didn’t know Scania sold vehicles in the US.
They apparently sold some cab over units in the US. But none here in Canada. Not sure about buses/RVs.
