I bought it… The difference is staggering. That said, best way to look at it is what kind of setup do you have. I have a pretty nice monitor which optimizes the PS5 Pro so it looks unbelievable. If you (or anyone looking to purchase a Pro) are on the fence about whether to buy it, you should evaluate whether you have the proper monitor setup to take advantage of it because buying this to put it on your living room television set is a total waste.

If the pro was $1000 itll be targeted to people who can afford it too.. but is that what its worth? It comes down to what the companies can get away with. The changes that we've been seeing so far isnt a $250 (price gap between ps5 digital and ps5 pro - digital by default) worthy upgrade.

You get more storage(2tb), more ram, and a more advanced GPU. All future games are going to look and run better than the base console. Ps6 won't be out until 4 years form now. So for an extra 250 it's a no brainer
Meh. I bought the mid-generation upgrade of both consoles last gen. In hindsight, they both felt like a waste of money. I'm not buying it this time based on prior experiences and based on the fact that Sony has a bare-bones exclusive lineup this generation. People who have money, like me, keep it by learning from past purchases and not wasting it on repeat-frivolous purchases. Most "luxury" items that you referred to are bought by people who live paycheck-to-paycheck and are attempting to keep up appearances. It's not a good point, and there's plenty of data out there to back it up.

Big caveat is the ridiculous price. If it was $499 or even $599 without a disc drive, then it will score high. At $699 it should’ve came with at least a disc drive or DualSense Edge pro controller, being a “PRO” device. Score would’ve definitely be higher if the price was $599 or lower.

I have it. There's a noticeable difference in graphics and performance. It's not a new console, it's a boost to an existing one. Most games coming out going forward will be developed with the Pro's capabilities in mind. Worth it if you can afford it.

Max touches upon an important factor. There are currently no games that really take advantage of the PS5 hardware. Most were developed with solely base PS5 and XSX hardware in mind. This presumably causes fewer interesting use-cases for the PS5 Pro and with the time-frame it takes to make games the content probably has not had time to be adapted to the added performance. What makes Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth such a stand out is the difference between the most basic bilinear and nearest upscaling methods compared to a machine learning based temporal upscaling algorithm, this will of course increase clarity by a substantial amount. If we instead compared with Insomniac's Spider-Man games that are already using a temporal upscaling technique the difference in clarity might be noticeable but far from a substantial enough of a upgrade to motivate the additional cost. I do think that there are big technical advancement motivating the release of a PS5 Pro, at least from a hardware company but maybe not as much from game developers perspective. Machine learning based upscaling and Real-Time Ray Tracing are big advancements in graphics. The upscaling can hopefully mimic 4k resolution at a lower cost to allow more room to use ray tracing, that has such a high computational cost, so the games can get that substantially increase in visual fidelity in that aspect. This could maybe open up for games like cyberpunk to release their path tracing on consoles and Metro Exodus can release their ray tracing only version as well, in 30 fps quality modes. We have yet to see what the added performance can really do. Digital foundry seem to have found roughly a ~35% performance increase in released titles which is a negligible difference. Ray tracing is unfortunately a tough pill to swallow this generation, so there is a risk that PS5 Pro might be underutilized by 3rd party developers leaving only PlayStation exclusives to really take advantage. Seeing how many PS5 exclusive titles there are this generation, PS5 Pro might just turn into an experiment for what happens the next generation. While we have not seen anything today to really motivate the purchase of PS5 Pro, I am eager to see what lies ahead. Xbox Series X is no longer the most powerful console, like Microsoft has marketed it as this generation, so I am curious to see how Sony takes advantage of that. So for now, I am not getting a PS5 Pro. I rather spend the money on games to play.

You play on that tv but you rarely utilize it for games. The most current games don't even run at 120 and 4k. The pro is a 1440p machine upscaled to 4k. Lol

If games already have problems to reach 60 how many times do you think you can actually utilize 120hz other than in a few exception? Even at launch this console won't truly give you what you wanted when you can only reach 60fps in most games. You can still be happy with it but your TV will for the most part not be utilized fully. Also people who already have experience with high-end hardware to review a console that tries to compete in a similar realm is only a good thing because they can actually talk out of experience.

As someone with a pretty high-end PC and a Series X, this definitely fits in the middle to me. I find it to be better than the Series X which was already notably better than a PS5. It is, of course, not as good as a my PC, but that's apples to oranges. I do think it's going to be the best experience you can get in your living room (until the Switch 2 because god do they have games for days). You can always put a PC in your living room, but I find the PC/living room experience to be very lackluster due to the lack of a casual OS designed for the plug and play nature you expect when couch gaming. $700 is steep. It walks right up to the line and dares to step over it. I do think, everything aside, it does offer a $700 value. It is dishonest to deny that. Still, it's not for everyone. You don''t need it, but if you want it then it is the best console you can get.

@@ronniethornton8548 My guess would be no. I think the main issue with that has been Xbox's decision to release the Series S alongside the Series X. Everything they make has to hit a performance goal on that then they can scale it up for the Series X. I think we will see the same with the PS5 Pro. Games will probably still be made to hit a goal on the PS5 then it can scale up for the Pro. At least that's what I feel like we have seen in the past with the Xbox One to the One X and the PS4 to the PS4 Pro. From now until the PS6, the PS5 Pro is basically just going to mean "game can now do 60fps at a better resolution. Oh, and we threw in some ray-tracing." I don't think we will have anything revolutionary, but it will still just be the best way to play a console game.
nintendo has so many great ip's they didn't even tap into for switch just think if they make a star fox 64 or star fox adventures remake for switch 2 or the legend of zelda link to the past remake the internet would break if they actually remade ocarina of time with updated visuals and all. Also the switch 2 is backwards compatible with switch 1 so this will be a good thing for nintendo
I completely agree about consoles being a better living room experience. Consoles are just a better fit for a couch and TV setup, while PCs are a better fit for an office with a desk.

I dumped my PC after three years for the ps5 pro. It runs like a champ! 🤷♂️ Apex and Cod BO6 run at 120fps like butter, and RPGs like demon souls play at 4k 60hz. Coming from building a budget PC Its nice to have high quality graphics that don’t sacrifice performance or fidelity
It's not between the PS5 and the PS6. It's a small upgrade. It is not selling well here in my country. Plenty of stock in stores. Which was to be expected at a price of 799 Euro. I think that gamers were not waiting for another piece of hardware. I think we are waiting for new games. It's so weird that not 1 game was launched together with the launch of the PS5 Pro, which actually was designed with PS5 Pro as lead platform to show the PS5 Pro's power. Here's my testing with my PS5 Pro so far 1. Final fantasy rebirth. PSSR is a huge upgrade for this title. You finally get playable frame rates in near 4k fidelity. This is the only viable way to play this title 2. Spiderman Miles Morales. PSSR upgrades the performance mode where you also get a near 4k resolution while getting performance mode playable frames. Hard for me to tell that game was upscaled. Best of both worlds with the ps5 pro. Ray tracing also still looks great. 3. Monster Hunter World. Resolution does not get upgraded since it is not a PSSR title BUT the 30 fps fidelity mode is more stable and I didnt experience frame rate drops like I did with the PS5 base. I turned on frame generation on my Sony Bravia TV (Sony MotionFlow). And it now plays like a dream in the resolution (fidelity) mode since you get stable frames in the best resolution Final Verdict: PS5 Pro is a huge upgrade for me. I DO NOT want to go back to PS5 base. If I had to do it again, Id buy the PS5 Pro and sell my PS5 base. Sony TV's MotionFlow plus PS5 Pro is a big brain combination
I pre ordered and picked up yesterday. I want and enjoy knowing I have the best possible PlayStation experience. Its just that simple and i don't care if its not the biggest upgrade I've ever seen. If I can play a few of my favorite games and have a little better performance I'm happy.
I bet if they made an upgrade for $200 more with 2fps improvement you'd buy that as well because you can play your favorite games at better performance so you can be happy.
It is a big upgrade though. I am coming from a series x, which is a great console, with a horrible UI. The visuals on the PS pro are better. The frame rates significantly better. The audio is even better and you can hear the difference in every game. If you have the right setup, this console upgrade makes sense. Maybe for some it doesn't. However if you are an enthusiast, it's a no-brainer.
My understanding of Bloodborne is that the physics engine is tied to 30fps so it can't be boosted to 60 without serious changes in the code it would need to be done at the developer end and would be a big job
Already been done by modders man. They thought enemy attack patterns would react strangely with higher fps...but nope, worked fine. So simply needs a remaster. I would personally prefer a remake to bring it right up to todays levels like Demon Souls. My guess is Sony know how popular it is. And it will be released with ps6 launchdate....whenever that is?

Installed my disc drive and hard drive which allowed me to quickly dive into several games. Im really happy with what ive seen so far. Rebirth versatility mode was worth the price alone for me as i still have to do my hard mode run. Hilariously metaphor’s performance issues are completely fixed as on og ps5 it had considerable dips, where im getting a solid 60fps. Apex legends had better resolution too, which is nice because 120 mode we got for ps5 did cut resolution a fair bit, and now there’s less compromise. Looking forward to checking out sm2, and ragnarok, but those games already had great performance/resolutions. I think the biggest benefit is that many unoptimized games will hit targets more consistently both in targeting 60 framerate, and with less dynamic resolution compromises. Unfortunately there’s no patch yet for ff16 so boost mode while improving it doesnt fix issues that game had. I haven’t tried jedi survivor yet heard that while smoother unfortunately you still have to turn off raytracing for locked framerates. Apparently resident evil series and dmc 5 120 modes are excellent so im hyped for what capcom will do with re9. Its exciting to look ahead to see what yotei, wolverine, and whatever naughty dog and cory balrogs next games will be, and what they’ll bring out of the ps5 professional. Im and definitely salty that sony didnt just include the disc drive, as i feel like they were already targeting enthusiasts market of like 20% of hardcore users, aka the ones that want that feature, have big libraries, buy steelbook physical releases etc. most users will not want to go through effort of that type of install, even if its really easy.
Ok..4yrs in and you are still saying ps5 is next gen. Its the current gen. And a failure of a generation. Refresh hardware is not the answer. New games is. Publishers should stop catering to games being available to bot pc and console. If its a console..then maximize the console hardware. Work within the constraints of the console.
As a gamer dad with Expendable income this was a no-brainer. I have absolutely been wanting more out of the games as the performance mode was is definitely starting to look muddy on the newer games. This was also the year I was going to get my son's A PS5, so it was an easy upgrade for me and give them my PS5.. as for the price, the extra terabyte brings a lot of value that people are underestimating. But I understand everybody not trying to act excited about it so their friends who can't afford it don't feel bad LOL

If it’s not visible to some people now, they will definitely start to see the differences next year. With more third party titles implementing FSR2 with low res, the image quality is already down the gutter. PS5 PRO will make a lot of difference in the later phase of this generation!! I still have a PlayStation 4 Pro and I enjoy it. There weren't many exclusives in the early days and I waited for the PS5 Pro to come out, but considering its unreasonable price, I think I'll get the regular PS5.

I got mine yesterday and returned it today. Let me explain why. Games like Batman Arkham Knight should be running at 60 frames per second 2K minimum. So should days gone. PUBG. Ghost recon wildlands. Ghost recon breakpoint. Uncharted 4. Watch dogs 2. I do not want to spend $700 just to play games that I've already beat in the last 3 years. I want to play the games that came out at the end of the PS4 cycle like alien and Days gone and Batman Arkham Knight and those games play at 60 frames per second high resolution. Because that did not happen I do not care to keep this console just to play The last of Us again. My base PS5 plays those games just fine.
Days gone is 60 fps on a Base ps5. Uncharted 4 has a ps5 version running at 60 fps. But in all, ofcourse the console is not going to remove the frame rate caps game developers put on their games like the 30fps on Bloodborne and Arkham Knight. 🤷♂️
A 700 dollar pc with a good cpu will run every one of those games mentioned in 1440p 120 fps. Besides , you don't have to spend sleepless nights fantasizing over a potential developer patch for you to utilize the hardware you purchased with your hard earned money.
I have it and just tested everything out now. I really didn’t see anything that was standout but I love the idea that I can finally go to resolution mode and have 60 FPS. I consider this my last console (I am 36) so I am fine with getting the best console with all my games running at 60 FPS.
Sony should sort out its ps store pricing if they want to go the digital route. It’s ridiculous. No cd to package and create should make those games cheaper, yet the physical disc is cheaper everywhere else.
The system is actually doing its job, i received mines on the 6th, did a little unboxing etc video. When i plugged it because i got it a day early the pro enhanced games weren’t available yet. But me trying just for fun silent hill 2 and outlast trials. Even without the pro enhancement yet, the games truly somehow looked clearer and more detailed . It’s almost like i put on better glasses lol. I kept trying to make sure i wasn’t just trying to convince myself, but it truly does look better, even the Home Screen somehow looks better lol. As of the 7th release day of the patches I’ve only tried re village and it does look better. I also have a lg g4 tv. And The weird thing when i streamed on UA-cam, even without me saying anything my subscribers somehow noticed the differences too, even with the compressed UA-cam video quality. I didn’t think it would look different for UA-cam but yet somehow it does. So so far I’m not regretting my purchase thank god 😩
As someone that did not get a PS5 at launch going the series X route. The pro is the best way to jump into the PS5 ecosystem and boy do I have a back catalog to choose from. I absolutely love my choice to get a pro.

It completely changed around some games for me. For example, Rise of the ronin was almost unplayable for me...now it runs beautifully. I am quite happy with the results. I paired it with an 65" OLED Samsung and man its definitely a treat

Bought it. I like an end to end high fidelity system from where each component is able to maximize the input and output of the other components. As an overall system investment, the PS5 Pro makes the most of my large screen. I don’t want to build PCs. I am a living room AUdio Visial system person. Having a no compromise system that gives me access to the graphics experiences that Pc gamers enjoy is very satisfying.
Honestly, even though the price was a bit high, i am loving the PS5 Pro!!! Everytime i used to play on my base PS5, i used to switch to Fidelity mode in some games just to see the quality and details of graphics for a brief period to WOW the works of game developers but always had to switch back to performance mode. But now with PS5 pro, i ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! Every frame is beautifully crafted, clean and smooth with even small details are so clear. I would highly recommend if you have a 4k tv already, go for the Pro, you wont regret! Yes, its expensive, but worth the money invested until PS6 comes, (maybe 3 or 4 years) instead of regretting to play games in its maximum potential. Just my humble opinion 😌
It is still not a native 4k/60fps/ray tracing let alone 4k/120fps console. It's not all at the same time and we're back 4 years ago either 60fps with massive restrictions or 30fps and the other restrictions The only advantage over the PS5 is the 6 more TFLOPs and that too without a drive.

I was sceptical about it, but unpacked and installed one for my uncle this weekend and connected it to his 77inch LG oled C4. Trust me that it makes a very noticable difference on a good TV. Saying its not necessary is the same as saying you dont need high end GPU's or dont need to play at ultra settings etc. Yeah sure if you have a crappy old tv and just want to play the ps5 games, this is not for you. But then again people who dont care about that obiously are not looking for a PS5 upgrade anyway playig games like Stellar blade at 80fps with VRR and other games at 60fps or more with fidelity mode graphics is sooo great. Even The Last of us look a lot better and i played that game 100+ hours.
I just go into my 85" Sony X90K, bump up the Motion & Clearity which adds frames to my Seriers X games in Performance Mode, literally makes 30fps games look like their running at 60fps, SO smooth!!! This Tech got REALLY good over the years. If U have a high end TV & know wht ur doing their is no need for a Pro.
There is no need for a Pro for sure but not for the reason you point here. Smooth and clarity TV options might give your game the look that its like running in 60 but it doesn't make it feel like it's 60. I also use it but it's not the same. The delay is there and you will eventually notice it. That said, if performance mode is 60 and you add the motion option on TV, yes its good.
5:15 the reason Bloodborne is stuck at 30 fps is deeper than you think. The combat is tied to the frame rate. It’s weird how they made it. The timing will be off if you go to 60. It’s a mess. They gotta rework it somehow.

It's funny that they mention of PSSR not being a reason to pick up a Pro, but for me that was absolutely the selling point. I prefer physical games & consoles to my PC & wanted to get the advantages that AI upscaling offers, especially with a large OLED TV as my main display.
I just got my PS5 Pro the other day, I started watching some reviews, and I haven't even opened the box yet. When I say I haven't opened the box, I'm not taking about the main box, I'm talking about the brown shipping box. Why haven't I taken it out? I'm honestly thinking about returning it. It's a pain in the ass unpacking it, hooking it up, to not seeing much of a difference. It's not like I have 2 LG 55" C1 OLED TV's to compare my launch PS5 vs the PS5 Pro. I have watched how the 2 consoles stack up, and sure the PS5 Pro looks slightly better, but there is just not much here at the moment to be excited about. Had Sony released a badass exclusive that was not only an excellent exclusive, but was an exclusive that showcased exactly what this PS5 Pro console can do, by pushing this new technology to it's absolute limits, then maybe this purchase would have been worth it. Instead, Sony wants us to purchase a $700 console just to replay their old games, just because they say their games looks better? I'm a one and done type of gamer. I play a game once, and do not replay then for a very long time. It was my bad for purchasing the stupid thing. It was one of those last second impulse buys in hopes that reviewers would see something substantially exciting for them to go over, but unfortunately that just was not the case. We all watched Sony show us were old exclusives video games that nobody was interested in, because most Sony PlayStation 5 owners have most likely already played them all. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth may be my game of the year, but it doesn't mean I want to go back and replay it. I put probably 300 hours into playing both FF7 Remake and FF7 Rebirth back-to-back, so I've have had more than enough Final Fantasy for this year. I'm on the fence as to what I should do with this PS5 Pro console. Keep it, or return it? What a boring launch...

Sony created the compact disc in partnership with Philips and it was made available in the early 80s, quickly seeing mass adoption in music, computing and eventually gaming and film, and has been a staple medium in the modern age of technology, for almost 45 years. Games consoles have long been associated with the CD, as PCs once strongly were, it is the format we have come to expect, and have expected to cherish for generations to come. The optional or, withheld, disk drive on a games console feels like one of the most anti-consumer practices seen in a while, because of what a physical medium represents column: ownership, fellowship, resale, preservation. Whilst we've enjoyed many fruitful generations with the compact disc, it's crystallising that we are being primed for an all-digital gaming future with centralised pricing and prescriptive access. From a product design perspective, Sony's choice not to harmoniously integrate the PS5 lineup's disc drive could be seen as a subconscious nudge for consumers to hold an unfavorable impression the peripheral, to begin to view see the disc drive as unessential, or holding back the console's design, encouraging a favorable view of removing the drive altogether for a more aesthetically pleasing console free of the disc drive's "bulk." I feel this is Sony's approach; forcing the disc drive out of the console's design, making the peripheral they wish to retire appear, quite literally, "tacked on". Though CDs and gaming have shared over three decades in close association, I wouldn't be surprised if Sony launches the PS6 in a smaller footprint than the PS5 Slim, in one model: digital only. The compact disc will live on in some capacity, but it is being phased out of the mainstream, as was the Floppy Disc before it. In the high-speed internet age, streaming is king, relentlessly taking over the media consumption landscape. By the time the PS6 is unveiled, the CD will be approaching 50 years old, and across much of the "connected" world, the internet will only become more capable. In light of our imminent all-digital future, is it time to finally retire the compact disc in favour of digital downloads, is it worth preserving this versatile physical medium, indefinitely, or should we see a new physical medium, one optimised for the next generation of gaming?
Very solid points with the software not being there to really shine the advances of the pro. I agree with max on how older games have improvements with playing them on the Pro but it doesn’t give that much validation when you played those games years ago
They abandoned a great hardware with wonderful prospects such as PSVR 2 and just released a overpriced one , with minor graphical changes, that nobody seems to care or want. This is Sony!
The disc drive on my PS5 is important to me not only for games, but for Blu Rays as well. Idc if it's a dying media, they still look great and they're mine forever , streamers don't remove my favorites every month. And I think the PS5 Pro will fail because, unlike the 4 Pro, despite being 4 years into the generation we are still receiving last gen support as well as nearly all new titles are just remakes or remasters. We the fans just aren't eating everything Sony shits out this time. We are waiting for that true next gen jump, which will most likely be GTA VI. But in the meantime, there is simply no reason to upgrade from PS5.
Having had a base ps4, then bought a ps4 pro, all I can say is, don't get one, just wait for the 6 because the last 2 generations have just been re-release/remaster, so all these games that look a little bit better now, will probably only get a better boost/remaster on ps6. Don't bother, save the money, by the base model and spend the other £300 on games. And the devs, won't make enough games that take advantage, they will make their games run on the base console and do the minimum they have to in terms of enhancements for the Pro, they don't want to isolate an audience to purely Pro owners, so games have to make the cut on the base model.
I didn’t think people cared so much about the Disc drive. Is it because it takes up less memory on the system? This is a genuine question. I wasn’t planning on buying the disc attachment, maybe I need to reconsider.
I’ve never in my life purchased a PRO version of a console, and felt like I was doing an overall downgrade…until now. But I’m a sucker for performance, so to play games that are not yet available on PC, at their highest resolution and frame rate is why I spent the money.
I could have convinced myself to get it by trading it my base PS5 but the fact that it doesn't have a disc drive and I'd have to buy that separately, sealed my decision to not touch this console. Ridiculous move on Sony's part
Considering most developers are still having last gen options when releasing new software (Black Ops 6) I can't see them focusing to much effort into doing anything different with the Pro other than optimization (smoother frame rates and such) I don't think there will be the piece of software where the Pro really sells the very high cost of the upgrade. Especially with no drive.
I think next year would be more useful for the console the base ps5 hasn't even been pushed enough yet I'm happy with my ps5 it's runs my games wonderful and $700.00 is just too much for games we all have played already
There is no way I'm ever buying a console without a disc drive included. Especially when one of the biggest features of the PS5 is that it's backwards compatible with 99% of PS4 games. I haven't even thought of buying a PS5, because there just aren't enough PS5 exclusives out there to make it worth it. When sony cuts the price of the PS5 I might look at getting one. Till then I have a PS3 & PS4 that have my attention.
As an OG PS5 owner, I just don't see myself upgrading soon. Only reason for me to buy this is if my current PS5 breaks down.
I bought it… The difference is staggering. That said, best way to look at it is what kind of setup do you have. I have a pretty nice monitor which optimizes the PS5 Pro so it looks unbelievable. If you (or anyone looking to purchase a Pro) are on the fence about whether to buy it, you should evaluate whether you have the proper monitor setup to take advantage of it because buying this to put it on your living room television set is a total waste.

Luxury cars, expensive clothes, Michelin star restaurants etc. are unessential. They are for people that can afford them. Same with the PS5 pro. If you have the money and want a better playstation then get it. If not, then don't. Super simple

So for an extra 250 it's a no brainer
Meh. I bought the mid-generation upgrade of both consoles last gen. In hindsight, they both felt like a waste of money. I'm not buying it this time based on prior experiences and based on the fact that Sony has a bare-bones exclusive lineup this generation. People who have money, like me, keep it by learning from past purchases and not wasting it on repeat-frivolous purchases. Most "luxury" items that you referred to are bought by people who live paycheck-to-paycheck and are attempting to keep up appearances. It's not a good point, and there's plenty of data out there to back it up.

I have it. There's a noticeable difference in graphics and performance. It's not a new console, it's a boost to an existing one. Most games coming out going forward will be developed with the Pro's capabilities in mind. Worth it if you can afford it.

The fact you still need to select different performance modes is pretty disappointing - would have expected to be able to just put a game in and play at everything on full.

Max touches upon an important factor. There are currently no games that really take advantage of the PS5 hardware. Most were developed with solely base PS5 and XSX hardware in mind. This presumably causes fewer interesting use-cases for the PS5 Pro and with the time-frame it takes to make games the content probably has not had time to be adapted to the added performance.
What makes Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth such a stand out is the difference between the most basic bilinear and nearest upscaling methods compared to a machine learning based temporal upscaling algorithm, this will of course increase clarity by a substantial amount. If we instead compared with Insomniac's Spider-Man games that are already using a temporal upscaling technique the difference in clarity might be noticeable but far from a substantial enough of a upgrade to motivate the additional cost.
I do think that there are big technical advancement motivating the release of a PS5 Pro, at least from a hardware company but maybe not as much from game developers perspective. Machine learning based upscaling and Real-Time Ray Tracing are big advancements in graphics. The upscaling can hopefully mimic 4k resolution at a lower cost to allow more room to use ray tracing, that has such a high computational cost, so the games can get that substantially increase in visual fidelity in that aspect. This could maybe open up for games like cyberpunk to release their path tracing on consoles and Metro Exodus can release their ray tracing only version as well, in 30 fps quality modes. We have yet to see what the added performance can really do. Digital foundry seem to have found roughly a ~35% performance increase in released titles which is a negligible difference. Ray tracing is unfortunately a tough pill to swallow this generation, so there is a risk that PS5 Pro might be underutilized by 3rd party developers leaving only PlayStation exclusives to really take advantage. Seeing how many PS5 exclusive titles there are this generation, PS5 Pro might just turn into an experiment for what happens the next generation.
While we have not seen anything today to really motivate the purchase of PS5 Pro, I am eager to see what lies ahead. Xbox Series X is no longer the most powerful console, like Microsoft has marketed it as this generation, so I am curious to see how Sony takes advantage of that. So for now, I am not getting a PS5 Pro. I rather spend the money on games to play.

If games already have problems to reach 60 how many times do you think you can actually utilize 120hz other than in a few exception? Even at launch this console won't truly give you what you wanted when you can only reach 60fps in most games. You can still be happy with it but your TV will for the most part not be utilized fully.

As someone with a pretty high-end PC and a Series X, this definitely fits in the middle to me. I find it to be better than the Series X which was already notably better than a PS5. It is, of course, not as good as a my PC, but that's apples to oranges. I do think it's going to be the best experience you can get in your living room (until the Switch 2 because god do they have games for days). You can always put a PC in your living room, but I find the PC/living room experience to be very lackluster due to the lack of a casual OS designed for the plug and play nature you expect when couch gaming. $700 is steep. It walks right up to the line and dares to step over it. I do think, everything aside, it does offer a $700 value. It is dishonest to deny that. Still, it's not for everyone. You don''t need it, but if you want it then it is the best console you can get.

@@ronniethornton8548 My guess would be no. I think the main issue with that has been Xbox's decision to release the Series S alongside the Series X. Everything they make has to hit a performance goal on that then they can scale it up for the Series X. I think we will see the same with the PS5 Pro. Games will probably still be made to hit a goal on the PS5 then it can scale up for the Pro. At least that's what I feel like we have seen in the past with the Xbox One to the One X and the PS4 to the PS4 Pro. From now until the PS6, the PS5 Pro is basically just going to mean "game can now do 60fps at a better resolution. Oh, and we threw in some ray-tracing." I don't think we will have anything revolutionary, but it will still just be the best way to play a console game.
nintendo has so many great ip's they didn't even tap into for switch just think if they make a star fox 64 or star fox adventures remake for switch 2 or the legend of zelda link to the past remake the internet would break if they actually remade ocarina of time with updated visuals and all. I completely agree about consoles being a better living room experience. Consoles are just a better fit for a couch and TV setup, while PCs are a better fit for an office with a desk.

I dumped my PC after three years for the ps5 pro. It runs like a champ! 🤷♂️ Apex and Cod BO6 run at 120fps like butter, and RPGs like demon souls play at 4k 60hz. Coming from building a budget PC Its nice to have high quality graphics that don’t sacrifice performance or fidelity

I think that gamers were not waiting for another piece of hardware. I think we are waiting for new games. It's so weird that not 1 game was launched together with the launch of the PS5 Pro, which actually was designed with PS5 Pro as lead platform to show the PS5 Pro's power. Only "updates" of old games, which are so small that Digital Foundry says that you won't notice them unless you are close to your TV.
For most, waiting for the PS6 is probably the right decision. For the niche user it's maybe worth it.

Here's my testing with my PS5 Pro so far
1. Final fantasy rebirth. PSSR is a huge upgrade for this title. You finally get playable frame rates in near 4k fidelity. This is the only viable way to play this title
2. Spiderman Miles Morales. PSSR upgrades the performance mode where you also get a near 4k resolution while getting performance mode playable frames. Hard for me to tell that game was upscaled. Best of both worlds with the ps5 pro. Ray tracing also still looks great.
3. Monster Hunter World. Resolution does not get upgraded since it is not a PSSR title BUT the 30 fps fidelity mode is more stable and I didnt experience frame rate drops like I did with the PS5 base.
I turned on frame generation on my Sony Bravia TV (Sony MotionFlow). And it now plays like a dream in the resolution (fidelity) mode since you get stable frames in the best resolution
Final Verdict: PS5 Pro is a huge upgrade for me. I DO NOT want to go back to PS5 base. If I had to do it again, Id buy the PS5 Pro and sell my PS5 base. Sony TV's MotionFlow plus PS5 Pro is a big brain combination
I pre ordered and picked up yesterday. I want and enjoy knowing I have the best possible PlayStation experience. Its just that simple and i don't care if its not the biggest upgrade I've ever seen. If I can play a few of my favorite games and have a little better performance I'm happy.
I bet if they made an upgrade for $200 more with 2fps improvement you'd buy that as well because you can play your favorite games at better performance so you can be happy.

It is a big upgrade though. I am coming from a series x, which is a great console, with a horrible UI. The visuals on the PS pro are better. The frame rates significantly better. The audio is even better and you can hear the difference in every game. If you have the right setup, this console upgrade makes sense. Maybe for some it doesn't. However if you are an enthusiast, it's a no-brainer.

My understanding of Bloodborne is that the physics engine is tied to 30fps so it can't be boosted to 60 without serious changes in the code it would need to be done at the developer end and would be a big job
Already been done by modders man. They thought enemy attack patterns would react strangely with higher fps...but nope, worked fine. So simply needs a remaster. I would personally prefer a remake to bring it right up to todays levels like Demon Souls.

Pro arrived yesterday and I’m freaking loving the results!
Installed my disc drive and hard drive which allowed me to quickly dive into several games. Im really happy with what ive seen so far. Rebirth versatility mode was worth the price alone for me as i still have to do my hard mode run. Hilariously metaphor’s performance issues are completely fixed as on og ps5 it had considerable dips, where im getting a solid 60fps. Apex legends had better resolution too, which is nice because 120 mode we got for ps5 did cut resolution a fair bit, and now there’s less compromise. Looking forward to checking out sm2, and ragnarok, but those games already had great performance/resolutions. I think the biggest benefit is that many unoptimized games will hit targets more consistently both in targeting 60 framerate, and with less dynamic resolution compromises. Unfortunately there’s no patch yet for ff16 so boost mode while improving it doesnt fix issues that game had. I haven’t tried jedi survivor yet heard that while smoother unfortunately you still have to turn off raytracing for locked framerates. Apparently resident evil series and dmc 5 120 modes are excellent so im hyped for what capcom will do with re9. Its exciting to look ahead to see what yotei, wolverine, and whatever naughty dog and cory balrogs next games will be, and what they’ll bring out of the ps5 professional.
Im and definitely salty that sony didnt just include the disc drive, as i feel like they were already targeting enthusiasts market of like 20% of hardcore users, aka the ones that want that feature, have big libraries, buy steelbook physical releases etc. most users will not want to go through effort of that type of install, even if its really easy.
Ok..4yrs in and you are still saying ps5 is next gen. Its the current gen. And a failure of a generation. Refresh hardware is not the answer. New games is. Publishers should stop catering to games being available to bot pc and console. If its a console..then maximize the console hardware. Work within the constraints of the console.
As a gamer dad with Expendable income this was a no-brainer. I have absolutely been wanting more out of the games as the performance mode was is definitely starting to look muddy on the newer games. This was also the year I was going to get my son's A PS5, so it was an easy upgrade for me and give them my PS5.. as for the price, the extra terabyte brings a lot of value that people are underestimating. But I understand everybody not trying to act excited about it so their friends who can't afford it don't feel bad LOL
Nah, you are exaggerating everything it isn't that good of a deal, enjoy your little extra performance, if you have a 80" tv or bigger I can agree that would make a big difference it also depends on your set up, I have a 75 oled 4k tv but is not that close to me so I wouldn't notice the difference that much it depends but still for me it isn't that big of a deal.

@Saltyone_ you are absolutely correct, it’s a great deal, from an overall improvement perspective, it’s absolutely better performance. This is a scalable jump as compared to PS4 - PS4 PRO. If it’s not visible to some people now, they will definitely start to see the differences next year. With more third party titles implementing FSR2 with low res, the image quality is already down the gutter. PS5 PRO will make a lot of difference in the later phase of this generation!!

I still have a PlayStation 4 Pro and I enjoy it. There weren't many exclusives in the early days and I waited for the PS5 Pro to come out, but considering its unreasonable price, I think I'll get the regular PS5.

I got mine yesterday and returned it today. Let me explain why. Games like Batman Arkham Knight should be running at 60 frames per second 2K minimum. So should days gone. PUBG. Ghost recon wildlands. Ghost recon breakpoint. Uncharted 4. Watch dogs 2. I do not want to spend $700 just to play games that I've already beat in the last 3 years. I want to play the games that came out at the end of the PS4 cycle like alien and Days gone and Batman Arkham Knight and those games play at 60 frames per second high resolution. Because that did not happen I do not care to keep this console just to play The last of Us again. My base PS5 plays those games just fine.
Days gone is 60 fps on a Base ps5. Uncharted 4 has a ps5 version running at 60 fps.
But in all, ofcourse the console is not going to remove the frame rate caps game developers put on their games like the 30fps on Bloodborne and Arkham Knight. 🤷♂️

A 700 dollar pc with a good cpu will run every one of those games mentioned in 1440p 120 fps.
Besides , you don't have to spend sleepless nights fantasizing over a potential developer patch for you to utilize the hardware you purchased with your hard earned money.

I have it and just tested everything out now. I really didn’t see anything that was standout but I love the idea that I can finally go to resolution mode and have 60 FPS. I consider this my last console (I am 36) so I am fine with getting the best console with all my games running at 60 FPS.
Sony should sort out its ps store pricing if they want to go the digital route. It’s ridiculous. No cd to package and create should make those games cheaper, yet the physical disc is cheaper everywhere else.
The system is actually doing its job, i received mines on the 6th, did a little unboxing etc video. When i plugged it because i got it a day early the pro enhanced games weren’t available yet. But me trying just for fun silent hill 2 and outlast trials. Even without the pro enhancement yet, the games truly somehow looked clearer and more detailed . It’s almost like i put on better glasses lol. I kept trying to make sure i wasn’t just trying to convince myself, but it truly does look better, even the Home Screen somehow looks better lol. As of the 7th release day of the patches I’ve only tried re village and it does look better. I also have a lg g4 tv. And
The weird thing when i streamed on UA-cam, even without me saying anything my subscribers somehow noticed the differences too, even with the compressed UA-cam video quality. I didn’t think it would look different for UA-cam but yet somehow it does. So so far I’m not regretting my purchase thank god 😩

As someone that did not get a PS5 at launch going the series X route. The pro is the best way to jump into the PS5 ecosystem and boy do I have a back catalog to choose from. I absolutely love my choice to get a pro.
with the way tariffs are expected to impact next year, the ps5 pro priced at $700 might be a bargain. a regular ps5 could cost the same, while the pro version is likely to be around $1000

If they can't optimize for the PS5, that would be a bummer... Most games ate optimized for the PS4, and if not, they just skip the PS4 ... No way Sony or any other company would alienate the PS5 fan base by releasing a PS5 pro only game.
It completely changed around some games for me. For example, Rise of the ronin was almost unplayable for me...now it runs beautifully. I am quite happy with the results. I paired it with an 65" OLED Samsung and man its definitely a treat
If you really want Quality Mode at 60fps, go for the Pro. If you're ok with Quality Mode at 30fps, stick with the normal standard ps5.

Bought it. I like an end to end high fidelity system from where each component is able to maximize the input and output of the other components. As an overall system investment, the PS5 Pro makes the most of my large screen. I don’t want to build PCs. I am a living room AUdio Visial system person. Having a no compromise system that gives me access to the graphics experiences that Pc gamers enjoy is very satisfying.

Honestly, even though the price was a bit high, i am loving the PS5 Pro!!! Everytime i used to play on my base PS5, i used to switch to Fidelity mode in some games just to see the quality and details of graphics for a brief period to WOW the works of game developers but always had to switch back to performance mode. But now with PS5 pro, i ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! Every frame is beautifully crafted, clean and smooth with even small details are so clear. I would highly recommend if you have a 4k tv already, go for the Pro, you wont regret! Yes, its expensive, but worth the money invested until PS6 comes, (maybe 3 or 4 years) instead of regretting to play games in its maximum potential. Just my humble opinion 😌

PS5 slim is 450 euro here and pro is 800 euro. The 78% jump is too big to consider the pro for me.
It is still not a native 4k/60fps/ray tracing let alone 4k/120fps console. It's not all at the same time and we're back 4 years ago either 60fps with massive restrictions or 30fps and the other restrictions The only advantage over the PS5 is the 6 more TFLOPs and that too without a drive.

I was sceptical about it, but unpacked and installed one for my uncle this weekend and connected it to his 77inch LG oled C4. Trust me that it makes a very noticable difference on a good TV. Saying its not necessary is the same as saying you dont need high end GPU's or dont need to play at ultra settings etc.
Yeah sure if you have a crappy old tv and just want to play the ps5 games, this is not for you. But then again people who dont care about that obiously are not looking for a PS5 upgrade anyway
playig games like Stellar blade at 80fps with VRR and other games at 60fps or more with fidelity mode graphics is sooo great. Even The Last of us look a lot better and i played that game 100+ hours.
I just go into my 85" Sony X90K, bump up the Motion & Clearity which adds frames to my Seriers X games in Performance Mode, literally makes 30fps games look like their running at 60fps, SO smooth!!! This Tech got REALLY good over the years. If U have a high end TV & know wht ur doing their is no need for a Pro.
There is no need for a Pro for sure but not for the reason you point here. Smooth and clarity TV options might give your game the look that its like running in 60 but it doesn't make it feel like it's 60. I also use it but it's not the same. The delay is there and you will eventually notice it. That said, if performance mode is 60 and you add the motion option on TV, yes its good.

5:15 the reason Bloodborne is stuck at 30 fps is deeper than you think. The combat is tied to the frame rate. It’s weird how they made it. The timing will be off if you go to 60. It’s a mess. They gotta rework it somehow.

can you tell me is the 5 a nice upgrade from the ps3. i know it might sound lame. i would like the pro. but here it is $1200.00 AUD. and for that i would want the disc drive included. and here you can not get one. more drives are coming but no one is sure when early next year ai have heard. i am a casual gamer sometimes a year or 2. and tomb raider 2013 looked good on my ps3. but having something better is nice. i got the slim with drive on sale last week for $669.00 have not opened it in case i go pro. i do have a 4k tv. but i do not sit to close either.
It will sell, whether it will sell aswell as the ps4 pro will be seen. The thing that’ll stop most is the price (and for some me included the lack of disc drive and to a lesser extent stand) if it was 599 with those packaged in I think it would have sold even more.
It's funny that they mention of PSSR not being a reason to pick up a Pro, but for me that was absolutely the selling point. I prefer physical games & consoles to my PC & wanted to get the advantages that AI upscaling offers, especially with a large OLED TV as my main display.
I just got my PS5 Pro the other day, I started watching some reviews, and I haven't even opened the box yet. When I say I haven't opened the box, I'm not taking about the main box, I'm talking about the brown shipping box. Why haven't I taken it out? I'm honestly thinking about returning it. It's a pain in the ass unpacking it, hooking it up, to not seeing much of a difference. It's not like I have 2 LG 55" C1 OLED TV's to compare my launch PS5 vs the PS5 Pro. I have watched how the 2 consoles stack up, and sure the PS5 Pro looks slightly better, but there is just not much here at the moment to be excited about. Had Sony released a badass exclusive that was not only an excellent exclusive, but was an exclusive that showcased exactly what this PS5 Pro console can do, by pushing this new technology to it's absolute limits, then maybe this purchase would have been worth it. Instead, Sony wants us to purchase a $700 console just to replay their old games, just because they say their games looks better? I'm a one and done type of gamer. I play a game once, and do not replay then for a very long time. It was my bad for purchasing the stupid thing. It was one of those last second impulse buys in hopes that reviewers would see something substantially exciting for them to go over, but unfortunately that just was not the case. We all watched Sony show us were old exclusives video games that nobody was interested in, because most Sony PlayStation 5 owners have most likely already played them all. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth may be my game of the year, but it doesn't mean I want to go back and replay it. I put probably 300 hours into playing both FF7 Remake and FF7 Rebirth back-to-back, so I've have had more than enough Final Fantasy for this year.
I'm on the fence as to what I should do with this PS5 Pro console. Keep it, or return it? What a boring launch...

Sony created the compact disc in partnership with Philips and it was made available in the early 80s, quickly seeing mass adoption in music, computing and eventually gaming and film, and has been a staple medium in the modern age of technology, for almost 45 years.
Games consoles have long been associated with the CD, as PCs once strongly were, it is the format we have come to expect, and have expected to cherish for generations to come. The optional or, withheld, disk drive on a games console feels like one of the most anti-consumer practices seen in a while, because of what a physical medium represents column: ownership, fellowship, resale, preservation. Whilst we've enjoyed many fruitful generations with the compact disc, it's crystallising that we are being primed for an all-digital gaming future with centralised pricing and prescriptive access.
From a product design perspective, Sony's choice not to harmoniously integrate the PS5 lineup's disc drive could be seen as a subconscious nudge for consumers to hold an unfavorable impression the peripheral, to begin to view see the disc drive as unessential, or holding back the console's design, encouraging a favorable view of removing the drive altogether for a more aesthetically pleasing console free of the disc drive's "bulk." I feel this is Sony's approach; forcing the disc drive out of the console's design, making the peripheral they wish to retire appear, quite literally, "tacked on".
Though CDs and gaming have shared over three decades in close association, I wouldn't be surprised if Sony launches the PS6 in a smaller footprint than the PS5 Slim, in one model: digital only. The compact disc will live on in some capacity, but it is being phased out of the mainstream, as was the Floppy Disc before it. In the high-speed internet age, streaming is king, relentlessly taking over the media consumption landscape. By the time the PS6 is unveiled, the CD will be approaching 50 years old, and across much of the "connected" world, the internet will only become more capable. In light of our imminent all-digital future, is it time to finally retire the compact disc in favour of digital downloads, is it worth preserving this versatile physical medium, indefinitely, or should we see a new physical medium, one optimised for the next generation of gaming?

Very solid points with the software not being there to really shine the advances of the pro. I agree with max on how older games have improvements with playing them on the Pro but it doesn’t give that much validation when you played those games years ago
They abandoned a great hardware with wonderful prospects such as PSVR 2 and just released a overpriced one , with minor graphical changes, that nobody seems to care or want. This is Sony!
The disc drive on my PS5 is important to me not only for games, but for Blu Rays as well. Idc if it's a dying media, they still look great and they're mine forever , streamers don't remove my favorites every month. And I think the PS5 Pro will fail because, unlike the 4 Pro, despite being 4 years into the generation we are still receiving last gen support as well as nearly all new titles are just remakes or remasters. We the fans just aren't eating everything Sony shits out this time. We are waiting for that true next gen jump, which will most likely be GTA VI. But in the meantime, there is simply no reason to upgrade from PS5.
Having had a base ps4, then bought a ps4 pro, all I can say is, don't get one, just wait for the 6 because the last 2 generations have just been re-release/remaster, so all these games that look a little bit better now, will probably only get a better boost/remaster on ps6. Don't bother, save the money, by the base model and spend the other £300 on games.
And the devs, won't make enough games that take advantage, they will make their games run on the base console and do the minimum they have to in terms of enhancements for the Pro, they don't want to isolate an audience to purely Pro owners, so games have to make the cut on the base model.
It's essential for those who prefer 60fps and above with resolution

I’ve never in my life purchased a PRO version of a console, and felt like I was doing an overall downgrade…until now. But I’m a sucker for performance, so to play games that are not yet available on PC, at their highest resolution and frame rate is why I spent the money.

Considering most developers are still having last gen options when releasing new software (Black Ops 6) I can't see them focusing to much effort into doing anything different with the Pro other than optimization (smoother frame rates and such) I don't think there will be the piece of software where the Pro really sells the very high cost of the upgrade. Especially with no drive.

There is no way I'm ever buying a console without a disc drive included. Especially when one of the biggest features of the PS5 is that it's backwards compatible with 99% of PS4 games.
I haven't even thought of buying a PS5, because there just aren't enough PS5 exclusives out there to make it worth it. When sony cuts the price of the PS5 I might look at getting one. Till then I have a PS3 & PS4 that have my attention.
