Truck Cap T Handle Replacement

- In this video, I do a quick Truck Cap T Handle replacement. This is a simple job that most people can do in 5 minutes if they have the tools on hand. The only tools needed are either a Phillips head screwdriver or an S2 square head screwdriver. I suppose it's possible that some have another type of screw but in my case, I removed the S2 screws and the replacement handle had Phillips head. Additionally, the screw that holds the interior handle on is 5/16 in. head. I was able to use my 11/1 Screwdriver for every part of this except removing the interior handle. It needed to be pried off. For this, I used a 3/4 wrench, but I could have used the screwdriver and a block of wood.

The fear of losing the last key motivated me since I’ve been losing stuff like crazy lately.
Great video. Note to self. Watch full video first. Did not have the handle or the bar in the right spot.
I recently bought a pickup and it has a unicover topper safari series, and I had to buy replacement keys, the lock was seized and ended up breaking one key off inside the lock trying to unseize it, finally got the key out and I thought the lock was able to lock as I was able to make a full 180 degree turn, I tried in vain putting the lock back on the topper, the biggest piece of information in this video for me was him stating what angle the handle needs to be in when reinstalling it, which was crucial, glad I found this video with that key bit of information. Thanks. But for some reason my lock still wont lock. I reinstalled it in the direction stated and was successful in that regard, but for some reason it wont lock eventhough the key turns 180 degrees, guess I'll just buy a new lock assembly.
Fortunately the handle wasn’t to expensive. Glad the video helped.
Now I need a new truck and camper so I can fix it? Well done!

Recently swapped my lock out just to find out the keys don’t work. Is there anything I’m missing?

Just one comment on an otherwise excellent video. You didn't show how the old handle came off. I assume it pushed out from the inside, retaining the old side lock bars and actuator.
Thanks for pointing that out. Once the screws are removed it just slides out.
Is there any way to power a lock like this?
Great question. I’m sure there is, but it would require running power and likely adapting a power unit from another tailgate. I don’t think they had power locks on this model year.
