We tried to pull 3 strands of 2awg and a bare copper ground through 1 1/4" pipe and its snapped the mule tape. What size pipe do we actually need?it's 180' of conduit.
Is it legal to assemble the conduit around the cable like that? I’ve always heard it had to be assembled first and then wires pulled through afterward.
I live in the country where there are no restrictions or inspections. I am not an electrician and I don’t have to follow any rules or regulations. This is my property and the engineer from Entergy that was on site told me I could have nailed that line to the trees and he has seen people do it. The power company fully approved my work and gave it the green light.
If this is from the meter to your house with no circuit breaker or fuse, quad is not correct. If breaker or fuse first, then correct. You are not installing as required by NEC. I would have put in 2-1/2” pvc and bought THHN/THWN conductors instead of that cable and pulled through the installed conduit.
I am not an electrician so I followed the directions given to me by the Entergy engineer I was working with. Everything worked out perfectly. Thanks for commenting!
The three wires are only 21% fill on 1 1/4 which is perfectly fine the the length of the run may make you up size the wire probably not enough to up size the pipe and bare wire isn’t allowed in conduit probably should just be 4awg or 6 xhhw taped green for the ground

The NEC book (code book), is there to keep you and others safe, which is why it has requirements. So I hope you don't totally ignore it.

according to the NEC you should have used 2.5" pipe
