I've been working professionally with PS since 1991-92. There have been many "game changing" innovations such as content aware... however adding this ability to the PS UI pretty much tops everything else. In my tests the results are certainly far from perfect ( but very fun ). Some subjects it works very well and others are a hot mess but considering it's in its infancy 50/50 success rate isn't bad at all. The one drawback/caveat is that I "heard" Adobe is going to charge for this beyond a certain base amount of "credits". For me that's absolute trash. We're already paying a premium to subscribe to CC and now they want to "double tax" us? Adobe has done some pretty questionable and reprehensible things over the decades but (again) this is right up there at the top. I hope this time around enough people will be outraged at the money grab enough to complain and make Adobe include it with their MANDATORY subscriptions.

Well, last I checked they were in business to make a profit - not subsidize us, give us a free ride on a technology that has to have cost them an ungodly amount of money, time and brain capital to realize and affect the effect it does. (I am not trying to be nasty incidentally - just interject a bit of reason here.)
The other day I generated a promo for my business that would have - if I could even have done it - taken me untold amounts of time and tedious effort. It achieved what I wanted - more or less - and then I made the needed adjustments to get it where I ultimately wanted it - in almost no time at all.
The result? Represents me and my work and those of the other artists I represent in a way that will immediately draw attention to a work (which is all a good salesman ever really wants is someone to focus on them and let him tell his story and help the prospect then become "happily involved" in owning his proposition or product!).
I think that the 20 gig Photographer plan I have is a steal already, and they will be giving me 500 credits a month and I will gladly pay more if I need more, but they won't stop me from using it - it will just be slower.
AND when they ultimately up the resolution - as they are already planning to? I will happily pay for a hi-res version of the final version I decide I want after using the 1024 x 1024 low rez option to figure it out.
I think we have to look at this from the perspective of time saved and the creative efforts it forestalls us having to make - not to mention the interesting ideas it always spawns "by accident".
Finally, keep in mind that Adobe is the ONLY company I know that has a moral sense about the ethics of what they train their AI engine upon - unlike DALL-E, Mid-Journey and the rest who scrap and steal, rape the internet of everyone's images to train their engines - possibly open all of us to infringement lawsuits down the road once the lawyers get geared up and have a few suits to model their attacks upon.
Paying and maintaining and curating the licensing of millions of images alone is mind-boggling.

Today everyone knows how to take pictures with a mobile phone but that doesn't mean they are good photographers. Everyone can drive a car, but that doesn't make them formula 1 drivers. Artists like Nemanja can't be afraid of artificial intelligence because they will be able to create more beautiful things than 99% of other people will create using the same tools

I've been using AI for a living for about 6 months now. It's a scary and exciting new technology that will change the way we as artists and creators can express ourselves, and it is a highly debated topic. I for one love this new tool and hope people will come to accept it as a more efficient way to express ourselves, just as computers were when we came from pencils/paper.

Absolutely amazing! However, I've been an avid student of Photoshop for years, learning compositing, and other cool techniques. A skill I was proud to know. Not everyone could do this. Adobe has now made it so easy to create stunning images and composites with absolutely no skill required, prompting me, (no pun intended), to question, Why did I learn all those techniques and skills over the years if the end result is something any novice can replicate in seconds by typing a description.

You still need all the skills to manipulate your artwork. Imagine that you are working for a client and he want some changes in the photo. Maybe some specific model there, or anything else. You can't do it with AI...

As fascinating as this tool appears to be, this is going to make everybody worse artists in the long run. The more we rely on AI technology, the more our own skills will erode until all we're doing is learning how to type in keywords into a prompt to let a machine do the work for us.

Nemanja, thanks for the video. I had similar reactions. Mostly laughter but the more and more I think about it, I am deeply worried that as an artist we are all going to be devalued once AI gets it right. I'm not going to say anything that hasn't already been said of course. While I have played with AI only as a joke so far it will eventually get good enough to create pieces better than I can make and it will do it faster too. Thankfully before all this exploded I stepped back from my photo composite and illustrative work to focus more on fine art nature photography which is where I may be staying for now. I can't see getting commissions for illustrative work when the person who could hire me could easily put in a few word prompt and get usable results. Notice I didn't say great or good just usable. Also all those people who think it's easy to be an artist now will jump into the AI thing and just crowd us out. Ugh, I can't see good things ultimately coming from this unless some rules are put in place on AI. No AI has been good enough to make it into any piece I've created yet, and even if it did I would tag it so people viewing it know that. Just like I tag that I use photoshop an an xppen graphics tablet. Unfortunately too many are already flooding creative spaces with AI generated art that isn't tagged and I can't compete with that. So hold on everyone the next year or two should let us see exactly how this is going to go.

      @NemanjaSekulic  Рік тому +1

Don't be discouraged. I love to make composites and I will still doit like I was before. I enjoy the process. You don't need to use AI at all. Just do what you love. If you type a prompt and get an image in return, you didn't made anything, you asked someone else to do it for you. So instead, keep creating and don't worry too much. Have a wonderful day!

I've been playing with it, and the accuracy on generating natural image extension like the petals of a flower, or even leaves, is absolutely insane! This is so awesome and really fun to play with. I had a few images I took where I found I had zoomed in too far. I used generative fill to extend them to basically "zoom out", and asked some people for feedback. The results are so crazy, with basically 20-40%, I even went as far as over 70% of the photo being AI extension, everyone seems to think that the new images look completely real or natural!
I actually originally watched a video about this a few hours ago, and thought the reactions of the person were a little much. But honestly, once you tried it out myself on my own images, my reactions were pretty well the same. I can't believe the results I'm getting, this is a game changer!

I think this new stuff is awesome, and over the years we have just seen Photoshop getting better and better, sthe selection tools, the warp tool, the neural filters, and much much more. We have not been able to use pictures for evidence of anything for a long time, like we could in the film days. And there is definitely downsides on all of this AI software, no doubt. But lets look at the bright sides, because it is here to stay - it is up to us to find the best way to use it.

See my comment in response to Lensman64. I was NOT trying to be hyper critical, but I just don't understand why so many people think that Adobe should be doing this for free as part of a prior subscription plan - that didn't offer us anywhere NEAR the capabilities that generative AI opens up for us. I remember when digital art first came out as a medium, people were complaining and not recognizing it as real art. Not to mention it skips the step of mixing all the paints and learning how to get the colour you want. Or learning how to make brush strokes and blend colours on canvas.
Well, now we're here with ai skipping most of the knowledge and process, people still dont recognize it as art until everyone starts using it.
I suppose its the whole referencing without permission thing but, artists always use references to make their piece.

😏So... what is your point of view about AI Manipulation now?
Because in your comptetitions you always say, you don't want works using any type of AI tool? :D

Honestly, I was expecting better results. This is the quality of DALLE-2 from last year. Midjourney is already 1000 times more accurate and more detailed than this. Hopefully, adobe catches up soon.

I just tested it out today and I cannot accept going to sleep (lol it is almost 3:00am where I am).
I cannot believe they condensed years of photoshop knowledge and likely hours of work into simple 1-clicks. And it looks nearly seemless. And this is the technology in its infancy as well.
The world truly has not begun to grasp what kind of an era we are now living in.
