Ahmed shah abdali durrani was a down to earth king,a poet,military commander and a an educated person.He was given title of dur e duran (pearl of pearl) by a saint.
I fully agree Sanjay Dutt, and he was unique for this character. Just amazing his personality in the movie no one can beat that.
As an Afghan I really respect Sanjay Dutt for his bravery and truthfulness, I never like Indian actors and actresses but Sanjay Dutt won my heart for telling the truth without any fear.

Rockstar ki vines Abdali wasn’t interested in India otherwise he could have stayed in India after destroying the Marathas, but in fact he came to defend Muslims and stop invaders like Marathas and Sikhs otherwise they would reach Afghanistan if they were not stopped and crippled there and then, you also tell me what have been looted from India by Abdali so we could return it back to you, it’s unfortunate that the Indians don’t have the courage and the guts until now to raise their voice against those who really and truly looted India and broke it to pieces, but they are very good at putting blames on those like Abdali who was never interested in Indians land or wealth but to defend its people and religion, I really wish he didn’t return to Afghanistan and claimed a big portion of India like other invaders and establish his kingdom in India so now we would be living in a different world. Maratha's were fighting for their Maratha empire not for INDIA. Maratha's invaded Rajputana Malwa Bengal & Awadh. They massacred ancestors of many present day Indians. Just because the director is Maratha, it doesn't make them great.

In 1730s Rajput King Raja Chhatrsal helped Marathas to establish Hindu kingdom in North. But in the battle of Panipat same courage was not shown by other Hindu kings. They remained neutral. Don't question directors intentions because he happen to be a Maharashtrian. Bhansali is not a Maratha but atleast he showed there was a great warriors in India.

There are instances when people fought for what is right and didn't die in the process. Like Shivaji himself, so why no movie on him rather than on Tanaji. Movies in a way sub consciously effect people and it's time when people must know that fighting for right doesn't always guarantee death...so that they are motivated to fight for the right.
