This poetic masterpiece tells of the story from which Houma has gotten it's nick name (Hingoa Fakatene-tene) of Kai Kuma.
Basically, During the ancient times where it was not uncommon for Tonga to have civil wars and power-struggles, The Tu'i Tonga at the time had passed away during battle and his heir was still in the outer islands in combat, hearing of this a samoan/tongan warrior had thought that it was the perfect time to take over and be installed as the new Tu'i Tonga (Hence the title of the song).
When the Tu'i Tonga would be installed he was to be placed at the Koka tree in Hihifo where a Ha'ofanga would form and through the Taumafakava he would be named the new Tu'i Tonga. The samoan/tongan warrior had a growing army in Kanokupolu and Hahake which had made many of the chiefs nervous and ultimately pushed them into agreeing into serving him within the coming ceremony.
With all the cheifs gathered in an Alofi and the soon to be Tu'i Tonga sitting across the Tou'a, it was clear that most of the cheifs had opposed this ceremony but had little power to stop it. Desite this, Vaea (CHEIF OF HOUMA) grabbed a rat that ran across the kumete and bit it's head off then threw it into the kava circle, he continued to criticise and challenge his legitimacy. The warrior and his allegiances left the circle without the title and had planned to assassinate Vaea multiple times with no success.
From then on, Vaea has been permanently placed directly facing the highest-ranking member in the circle (behind the tou'a) to challenge, speak up against all and any transgressions in. the circle.
