One of the central reasons for Italian Neorealism filmmakers & cinematographers to use natural lighting as well as new crews & casts who had no filmmaking experience was that World War II had uprooted their movie making industry & they had to start from scratch.
That style or techniques of Italian Neorealism filmmaking was more out of using what they had more so than purposely making a distinctive filmmaking aesthetic.
Even Cinecittà could not immediately find the grooves of success that they helped craft with their industry display of "professional filmmaking" for all of Europe to follow, before World War II.
This was a great episode about Néstor Almendros, who was certainly a 20th Century cinematographer who showed us how talent & visually photographing motion-pictures could be cohesively harmonious. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for this awesome content! Nestor is one of my favorites. Have got this book ‘A man with a camera’. Regards from Málaga, south Spain.
Wonderful book.
Great overview! It's worth mentioning that during the filming of 'Days Of Heaven', Almendros was experiencing rapid eyesight loss. Most of the film was shot with him being almost blind. An assistant helped him compose the shots by taking a Polaroid of the frame which he could see using strong glasses. His work is even more stunning and meaningful if you think about that!!! Truly amazing
One of the best episode from the Cinematography Style!!!
Can't get enough of your videos - this one was incredible. Love Almendros. Thank you.
Great video about one of the greatest cinematographers! Néstor Almendros is one of my absolute favorite cinematographers who's work continues to inspire my own work!
Really love the list of Cinematography Style. Thank you sir.
If I may, I request a video about the style of Mahmoud Kalari (Iran) and Yudi Datau (Indonesia).
I love the experimentation with the format. Keep it up!
Wow! Such a great overview! Many thanks!
This is absolutely my episode so far; I always wonder how to light like Rohmer or Bresson's late work; they have an old painting quality. I wish there were more videos covering this, or maybe breaking down the cinematography of Passages, which is the most astonishing cinematography, even comparing films like Poor Things, which is also a great film to do a beak down. Thank you guys! I love this channel!
Is the title Passage?
I found 2 movies titled The Passage, and Passages. Haven't seen anything for something titled Passage.
@@gregorylagrange It is the Passages, sorry about that!
Awesome! Please do John Toll and Vilmos Zsigmond next please
FIrst! Love this guy! Great vid as always my guy! I so wish to see you work on some huge scale movie, you deserve it!
First?
Not to ask or try to redirect a creative's trajectory, but I am patiently waiting for a Cinematography Style of Vilmos Zsigmond, love and appreciate the work you share with us.
Fantastic thank you!
Great video
Make a video about Robert Richardson!!!!
I love your videos
Thank you.
I love this channel.
I would not like to do this
But it s a neccesity.
I thought that you used at least two shots lensed by H. Wexler in the video.
Im pretty sure of that
Sadly neither mr Wexler, nor John Bailey, the Ac on Days of Heaven are alive to explain.
Wow, a shooting ratio of 1.5 to 1, we had a shooting ratio of 5 to 1 on our recent student short film, and our tutors were telling us how insanely little that was....
Haskell Wexler shot most of Days of Heaven.
Harris Savides pleassssse
I bet he would accept digital and run with it.
If he had lived a little longer
He would've made a great collaboration with Scorsese
Oh? Do you know which movie?
@@zacharyantle7940 he did a documentary short and a segment of New York Stories
My work looks nothing like his but people sometimes calle me almendros i wonder why
