Deb, I stumbled onto your UA-cam channel the other day and I have loved what I have watched! I started one of the barn paintings today, and I look forward to completing it. I heard you comment that you don't get enough people following you (I think I have that correct) but I want to encourage you to keep doing what you are doing! There are so many "tutorials" out there that aren't tutorials at all, but you are a great teacher! Please keep up the wonderful and beautiful work!
I love your negative painting techniques. You explain everything in a basic, easy to understand way. Thank you for all your wonderful watercolor videos!
What a wonderful way of using that successive layering technique to achieve depth in your painting Deb. 😉😍As always this video is full of great tips! Thx very much for teaching us. 🥰💕🐶💕🥰
I found a reference photo to try this today. Let’s see what I can do with it. I’ll keep looking at the reference picture so I don’t get confused Lol. 😊
Hello Deb. it is so helpful hearing your reasons in the paint work. This trains my thinking as to why I do something. I lie in bed and watch these in bed at night to soak it into my brain. Thanks so much for the understanding. NZ
So negative painting, kind of? I'm a beginner and I really love negative painting. I have a photo of morning glories in bloom that I want to try to paint with this technique. Thank you

What an awesome comment - thank you! I'll be putting a lot of lessons on while the weather is cold - pile them up like heavy snow.

You are so welcome, Michelle! I'm starting a new 8 week session next week.

I try not to say negative painting - it scares people off. Thanks, Alicia!

You can do it, Michelle! I often tell students they should look at art before going to sleep - it makes them better artists!
It was a surprise to see the colors pop with addition of darker color
Students are often shocked at the difference it makes when adding the darker colors. The darker the shadows the brighter the lights.
Love this, Deb! Beautiful seeing it get definition.
Thanks so much! This is more an overview than a full lesson, but it can help with some paintings.
Love your approach to painting Deb! You keep it simple by doing it in basic steps. End result.. a good (maybe great) painting. Thanks! ❤
Thanks so much 😊
Thanks for your clear directions!
You are so welcome! Layering works better than painting each leaf separately.
❤❤❤❤
Thank you, Maria! I worked hard on this one.
Thank you. This is beautiful and you made it look fun !! I’m looking forward to painting this
Hope you enjoy it! This will be successful without half the detail I put in - I just have a hard time stopping.
Just beautiful and so clear.
Thank you! I'm growing a lot of native plants as well as zinnia so watch for more flower tutorials soon.
I'm excited to try this Deb. Good tip about the X's!
Thanks, Jake. I've always been drawn to complicated subjects and the xs can help keep you from going crazy!
I love this method.
It's easier and you get better results - watercolor washes rule! Of course, then I overwork it, but the idea is good.
Thanks, good beginner level project and pretty subject. I plan to try some of this project :)
Go for it, Valerie! Yours doesn't need to look like mine to be successful - that's the fun part of art.
Lots of good tips in this lesson. Thx!
My pleasure! A lot of students get discouraged just when their paintings are starting to take shape. Don't quit!
Stunning
Thank you! Cheers!
So beautiful!
Thank you! 😊
This is so pretty! thank you. Can't wait to try it
Have fun! Your painting doesn't need to look like mine to be a success - use your favorite colors.
Lovely!
Thank you!
Thanks
You're welcome, Kit! This busy kind of scene is what I love best.

Yes, the main washes of greens are negative painting and this should work great for morning glories. I avoid saying negative - it scares people off.
😍
Zinnia and butterfly from my flower bed!
