I will just say, the KIA wasn't my first choice on looks and dedicated EV build, the IONIQ 5 was that. BUT, Carwow in the UK did a range test and the KIA went another 30 odd miles compared to the IONIQ 5 and they both share the same kit, one is like a brick, the other is a sleeker design. So yeah, KIA get's me.
Honestly, i hate touch controls in cars for commonly used things. My parent almost drive off the road in their car trying to turn down the heat. Touch controls are distracting and take drivers eyes off the road for no reason. I love 2019 civic hatchback and specifically didn't get the sport version cause it had touch radio controls. Imo it is much safer to have analog buttons that you can feel for and easy use.
I have a 2017 Civic and am going to "upgrade" the climate control panel because for some reason, the Touring trim has far less function. They relegated fan speed control to touch screen FFS, but the lower trim model has full physical controls. Edit- radio doesn't matter to me as I just use Android Auto.
Hey I am driving a Kia myself. About the Volume control, you can set climate control on the panel and just use the volume leaver on the steering. About the not presentet map in the display: I asked my dealer about the map feature and they answered they currently cannot integrate a map as there are patents in place by VW group and some other car manufacturers that prevent them from doing so. Else pretty neat review.
My takeaway from this video is that they have a pretty solid foundation and if they clean up the UI and other smaller things this could be a pretty darned good vehicle in a few years.
The one main thing I love from KIA at the moment is the fact they are designing EV's from what looks like the ground up, its not just slap into an existing model (Yes there are a few KIA's that are) but this and the Ioniq 5 are just refreshing with design and nice to see they are caring about the look
Alex has a special talent for car reviews. Straight to the point, right mix of general info/techical insight and not afraid to tell things as they really are...the "hey dieselgate ain't gonna pay for itself" quote about poor interior quality in a past VW group car reviews is the perfect example...in a world of car youtubers who just tell everything is great, this is a very refreshing take.

What is an issue for some reviewers is not really an issue. I checked both the EV6 and IONIQ 5. I picked the Kia. A better-looking car, more aerodynamic, more efficient. Climate control/ Radio-media controls? Not an issue, I control that on the steering wheel and you can set a default display on that. Some reviewers complain about the lack of rear wipers. The rear glass has the same tilt as a sedan, yet nobody complains about the lack of a rear wiper on a sedan. Touching the steering wheel and seat heaters by accident? If you buy the car you get used to that and no issue later. Did you want to love it? I do love it.
When talking about the looks, especially about the rear lights and how cool the 'silhouette lighting' is, it would have been nice if the video actually SHOWED us the damn features instead of just talked about them. It was particularly frustrating cause the video specifically showed examples of similar rear lights on OTHER cars, but NOT THE RUDDY CAR THE VIDEO WAS TALKING ABOUT.
I found it kinda sad that the whole charging situation was just an abstract "it's not a Tesla, lol", while the 800V system of E-GMP in the EV6 and IONIQ5 with (afaik) measured 234kW DC peak and a pretty good charge curve (unless you hit the charger with a snowy-wintery-cold battery, which will be fixed in a software update) is crazy and currently only matched by the Porsche Taycan. Might be that in Canada the cargers aren't really there yet, but please consider that viewers might also come from other parts of the world (or the future) with a working HPC network. As an European example, when I am driving long range between Austria and Germany, most of the chargers I need to stop at could already deliver 350kW DC - and I drive the OG 2016 Hyundai Ioniq EV, so that's actually a veeeeeery uncomfortable amount of chargers I am stopping at, esp. in winter... 😅
The tesla fan club keeps pushing on "the chargers" to try and dissuade people from buying anything but a poorly made tesla. I have a 200kw station 2km's from me if i ever need it and there are many other networks available. I had no idea until last year when i started to research an EV purchase. There's a chain in Canada that has chargers every 250km or less and some of them are even 350kw. I ordered a top spec Ioniq5, won't see it for a year though :( .
@@ianrobertson3419 Well, it's equally annoying when people are just stating that a Tesla's are "poorly made" without probably having any experience with them. I've had a Model 3 for 2.5 years now, without a single issue. And since there's no required service interval, I haven't even been at Tesla since I bought it. Interior still feels and looks like new, and doesn't have small squeaks like my previous BMW. I like the Ioniq 5 and EV6, but the control/UI issues mentioned in the video would kinda keep me from buying it. Well, if I needed the bigger tailgate I would get one of them, since I don't fancy the Model Y looks.
Yeah, I think the charging capabilities of these cars shouldn't be underestimated. The 18 minutes from 10 to 80% figure is quite the statement on the current market. Combined with the range this means you can very practically us this car without having a charger at home. I can own this car, hit a DC charger two or three times a month for 10-15 minutes and keep it in my plugless rental garage instead of having to regularly leave it for hours at a public AC charger. I could do the same with a bunch of other EVs, but those 2-3 charger stops per month would be more like half an hour or more, which makes a difference in general convenience. The Hyundai/Kia EVs are getting to the point where you can operate them just like any conventional ICE car, which is mostly relevant for people that don't own a house. I guess owning a house is rather common in north america. In europe, that's quite a different story though.
@@WyandWombat It is impressive, but the stated 18 minutes is under optimal conditions with battery temperature at just the right level. It's very hard to achieve in the real world, and especially in cold weather it will charge much slower. Also, if the battery is too hot it will throttle, as it doesn't seem to have that much cooling capacity. Anyway, both BMW i4/iX3, and Model 3/Y all charge from 10-80% in around 20 minutes in similar good conditions. So really, there's little difference. Another thing is that EV6/Ioniq 5 supposedly haven't launched with active pre-heating of the battery, which makes them worse when the battery is not warm. But I'm sure Kia/Hyundai will update them with that if they haven't already.
@@tbnzet The information you gave on the other vehicles is not true. Both BMWs need at least half an hour to DC-Charge from 10 to 80%. The same is true for the Tesla Model Y and the Model 3 still needs at least 25 minutes for that. So with the exception of the Model 3, the hyundai groups platform is pretty much twice as fast. While it is correct that the EV6 and Ioniq5 did not launch with active pre-conditioning and only start up their heat management once they are connected to a charger, there is a software update on its way to solve this and the model year 2023 will have that feature from the get go.
It’s strange how companies making new EVs or just normal cars at this point are seemingly going backwards. The UIs look nice enough, but they are less functional. For example, Audi, for the longest time they had a pretty decent infotainment system that had a look that stayed fairly consistent over almost 10 years, it never looked the most modern but it was very functional. Most companies have had drive modes figured out for years to a basic degree at least and it seems like they all forgot how to do things correctly.
I think the main reason the UI’s all look bad is because they put the worst performing computers inside of them so they can’t do anything good. That’s why I’m hopeful the Qualcomm digital chassis will all this.
@@irwanclark The new chips are plenty fast. It's just that they're making UI changes for the sake of changes. Plagues the whole industry, think the countless website redesigns.
I always get surprised by a car review on shortcircuit. It feels weird, until I think about how much tech is in one now. And I absolutely love each and every one. I am nowhere near a gear head, but Alex has an amazing ability to explain the good and bad about any vehicle he gets in. Keep these coming!
I test drove this the other day. To get the "out of car" movement to work, the car must be locked, then press the circle button for a few seconds, which unlocks the movement buttons. Then you can move the car forward and back.
I own an EV6 and I agree on some points, but I feel like you're overly focused on finding little niggles this car has. You're not focusing enough on: A) How great the range is. B) How well it drives. C) How great it looks. All this for a very competitive price, especially if you're taking mid- or entry level trim. Overall it's a really strong package. A lot of the stuff you complain about is mostly because you haven't had enough time with the car or used to something else. Like the media controls and A/C sharing the same screen is completely fine. You can use the media controls on the steering wheel or on the main touch screen and just leave it on A/C if it bothers you. The ride quality being harsh I disagree with, it's better than in Teslas, for example. The suspension is sporty but it's definitely not harsh. Maybe your tires are over inflated? Sweet spot is ~35 psi. Driving in i-Pedal mode is not optimal outside stop-and-go city traffic, you get more range by coasting. Which is probably the car changes it when you're driving on long winding roads. Car needs to be locked in order to use the summon feature. It works, I use it all the time.
Man I'm sorry but Alex is terrible with these car reviews they should bring some experts and make a new channel bcz he's destroying this one, seriously he's just complaining in every video and not reviewing anything so he can show us hey look at me I'm the expert I know everything
Agree with your additional comments and of those who have so far replied to your comment. His whinging is insufferable. If he wants to continue on in a career as a critic, perhaps he should switch to something where his nitpicks might be more relevant. Like ice cream or something.
I have this car, since November 2021, and I just love it! It's one of the first in Portugal, and in my case everyone looks at my care. Also, for the going back and forth with the key outside the car, you gotta have it locked and then click the lock again, then hold the "Hold" button for a bit and then you can choose to go forward or backwards, you can never do it by accident.
I bought an EV6. I absolutely love the car. I do agree that the i-Pedal turning off is annoying. It only seems to turn off when the car gets "parked" and put back into drive. Which I actually found to be a great thing overtime as I want it to crawl and stop with break, but drive out on the street with one pedal.
I also have the EV6, but I haven't actually noticed the i-Pedal turning off, I don't use it all the time, but the times I've used it it hasn't turned off on its own
@@1eddy967 1 pedal driving is sub optimal with the EV6 if you are driving in Eco mode. Normally in Eco mode the front motor is disengaged. While in 1 pedal driving mode the front motor stays engaged. I now drive in level 3... and just use the padels to turn on 1 pedal driving as I come to a stop, then back to level 3 when I start moving again.
@@EduMiguel16 I have an EV6. The top trim has a reverse camera, 360 overhead view, and parking sensors. These three things make the car very easy to park.
@@QuantumMechanic343 Thanks, also what's your opinion on the space of the back passengers? I got see the car in person and did a test drive but I noticed there was too much unfilled room for the back passengers, putting them so "far away" of the front passengers and making it harder to talk to each other, for example. I know that on the Ioniq 5 it is possible to move the seats back and forth but not on the EV6
Surprised with the UI issues as that is usually a Kia strong point. I love the UI on my K5. Minus the wireless charging which is pointless if I want to use CarPlay. I had wireless CarPlay in my last Kia, with no wireless charging… then the car with wireless charging does not have wireless CarPlay. That was not thought out…
@@danielmichelin4832 I cannot post links but search for: ev6 wireless android auto kia update works The original thread seems to be removed, but the first hit is still talking about the wireless update: "EV6 Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto (full screen) coming | kind of confirmed"
@@ryan-heath This is huge and is my biggest gripe about the EV6. I assumed wireless was coming and that is why they didn't bother having a better wired charge point. My sales woman sure didn't know about this ! Fabulous if true!
Current EV driver here. One of the most important pieces of information I look for in these reviews is how many kW a car can charge at when you plug into a DC fast charging station. My bolt can only charge at 50 kW, the Ioniq 5 will do 350. Big difference. Quick and easy thing to include in your future videos.
Honestly, seeing how Linus has three kids about the same age as mine: What is sorely missing in these car reviews is a look at the backseat width. Does it fit three people (or three kids' seats) next to each other? Because there are very few EV mini vans, and this is something us families really, really care about. Other than that, these EV reviews are pretty cool, keep them coming!
From personal experience, this car fits three people quite well, and everyone has felt that the car has a lot of space, just not so much vertical space
Every few months I research for an EV that can fit 3 car-seats. Have not found one yet except, Rivian looks like it might esp the 7 seat one. Ford Lightning will also fit 3 kids since its like the normal f150 and those fit 3 seats really well with one caveat, no anchors for the middle.
Okay. I have an ev6 wind AWD ive never accidentally hit any of the seat heating or cooling functions. The display behind the steering wheel could have been a bit better. I had to adjust the seat and the wheel to fully see the display. Im 5"9 so it wasn't to bad for me. Taller people may have more problem's. You have an electronic child lock on the driver side door wich is nice if you have small kids. You also have two front seat profiles so you and your partner can get the perfect seating position and not have to worry about changing mirrors or adjusting the seat everytime you switch seat's. Overall im happy with the car. The heating and audio control switching isnt that bad. I normally just use my steering wheel to control the audio and i leave my heating on auto climate. Oh, one last thing. To use the key to move the car you have to get out with the car off lock it the turn it on with the remote start then you can move it. It kinda annoying. It dosnt take long only about 15 20 seconds but its a wait thats not needed. Probably something they can change in an update hopefully. Also you can lock the door from the outside if its on. Also annoying.
Yeah it seemed like the seat + wheel wanted me to be in a higher driving position but then my head would hit the ceiling. Makes sense it would be more comfortable for someone a bit shorter. -AC
I'm guessing that the key moving is something that only people terrible at parking are likely to need to use and so they'll be happy to wait the 15-20 seconds. It annoys you because you could do it much quicker.
For how I use the cars controls, I actually really love Kia's choice to combine climate and volume. Most of my music and navigation is through android auto & Google assistant, and I adjust the volume on the wheel 90% of the time, so just having knobs for temperature instead of tapping on a freaking screen for that appeals so much.
or...stick with me here...they could give you a knob for volume AND a knob for temperature (maybe even a tuning knob!). I know it's hard to believe...but that's how cars were for 50 years.
This is by far the best professional video I've seen that actually shows real world use problems. I'm still excited for my EV6 to be delivered but everything explained here will probably be the reason why my wife and father in law won't switch to an EV anytime soon. You'll need a pilots license just to try and take off. The only thing that makes me support this or the Ionic 5 is the capability of charging your car from 0-80% in 18 minutes. Even if I only charge for 9 minutes I can get enough power to get to work and back before needing to sit there and charge properly (luckily I have 4 stations in between work and home that offer 350kW charging).
15:25 If the system is the same as the previous Hyundai and Kia cars that have this feature, I think you first have to press the lock button, then remote start the car, and then you can use the ghost ride feature by holding down the button for like 5 seconds.
Every reviewer complains about media/AC controls bar. To me it seems to be completely fine, because I use media controls on the steering wheel (on my current car, different kia model) and then AC controls can be on that bar 24/7. This is like the most insignificant thing that could possibly exist and I couldn't care less about the media bar.
Easily turning on/off traction control is an underrated feature in cars. I had a Toyota where turning it off was like a Nintendo cheat code: car off, hand brake up start car depress brake 2 times brake brake (hold 2nd brake while doing next step) handbrake down, up, down, up release brake and depress brake 2 more times
the pedal dance is for "true off" the button is a "turn off till the unskilled will kill all the babies" because everyone else in society thinks rear wheel drive is suicidal in winter and half of north america goes post apocalyptic with a little bit of snow. meanwhile the entirety of society did just fine till fwd was normalised... but hey i like driving and think all this tech is just training wheels for people who'd rather ride the bus or drive while eating a bowl of soup and texting
@@kazzTrismus Just to play Devil's advocate, I'm more or less ok with leaving "true off" reserved for the pedal dance. As you say, "everyone else in society thinks rear wheel drive is suicidal in winter and half of north america goes post apocalyptic with a little bit of snow." -- You say that with sarcasm, but on the other hand we all know about the classic "Mustang owner activates pedestrian seeking mode pulling out of a cars and coffee". There is some degree of truth in that the modern average driver just isn't capable of handling modern cars and the ever increasing power creep (especially in "full off" rwd)
I own a KIA EV6 and the child lock for the backdoors is the lowest most button on the driver side where you open the windows It locks both the rear windows and doors
Just an FYI: You can press and hold the climate button and a sub-menu will appear asking you what you want it to default to. If you choose audio, then after setting your climate after a few seconds it goes back to the media options.
I feel like this is the kind of car that a yearly refresh could REALLY help. The fundamentals are there, just the UI and wheel position could do with some changes.
@@ShortCircuit what about ebikes? samething? i personally much prefer ebikes because i think they have much more potential than cars so it would be nice to see more vids about them.🙂

Considering that Canada plans to ban the sale of gas vehicles by 2035, this series is getting more and more relevant, I think you guys were early on this, but totally not wrong about the idea. Hoping for more and more content like this later on.
This can't be true? What if its winter outside and you need to drive 300 miles while the windows are defrosted? You guys bringing dog sleds back or what? Does the 98 percent of Canada that is rural not exist to the Canadian government?
@@frogslayer4849 As a Canadian...Realistically speaking, unless it's perfectly implemented, the ban will just keep getting pushed back. It's just how politics works here, 1) have a bold idea. 2) realize the bold idea requires incredible infrastructure upgrades. 3) realize Canada has crap infrastructure to begin with. 4) quietly roll back the plan and hope no one notices. 5) Repeat as necessary.
They honestly need to ban touch screens in cars. Having to fiddle through menus to reach anything that you use to have a single physical button do is going to cause way more accidents. Go back to DIN, use an LED radio control. Easy
In future reviews of hybrids and EV’s, get us what the car sounds like while in reverse! I had a Kia Nero EV rental recently and it was the most obnoxious sound ever! In my week of driving it, I learned that Kia made it impossible to change or adjust the sound short of disconnecting the speaker, which comes with its own set of considerations. Months later after coming home, some poor soul in a parking lot near home got the Nero EV and gets eye rolls from everyone within a 3 block radius every time they park!
Interesting, there was no reverse sound at all when i test drove the car in Sweden 3 weeks ago. Maybe theres some regulation over there that is not here?
It is disappointing when reviewers do not taken the time to get familiar with the vehicles that they are reviewing. In this case it starts with the reviewer trying to make a big deal "5 hours" to store the hatch cover when it takes 15 seconds and goes on through how to activate/deactivate the child locks from the drivers seat (it is the standard child window lock button on the driver's door). Most other brands do not even have this feature and you have to do it manually. The water bottle thing is simply that you leave the phone in its wireless slot. As for "head turning", people of all ages have almost broken their necks trying to get an extra glimpse of my EV 6.
this is hilarious. The volt Gen 1 had touch sensitive buttons and almost completely revised the Gen2 to do away with them bc they were so freaking finicky. it's like every car maker just made the original "OOO OTOUCH" so much worse.
To be honest, it is a win that the middleschoolers where impressed by it. I mean, they are the future after all and it's hard enough to convince a person who's daily ride is a petrol car to switch to half/full electric.
I love how you were having fun and being silly while driving this. That's my one problem with basically all the EV's. The dash is very overengineered and just stupid. Everything is way more complicated and unintuitive than it really should be and for the average user it brings a steep learning curve or just hassle to do the simplest things.
You should rent a Tesla when Hertz has them or test drive a friend's and see how non existent the learning curve is. When you only need to look one place and it can show you different things based on situations, it is super intuitive. I borrow my wife's and hate going back.
Video at 2:01 suddenly gets a bit choppy? Strange since the rest is very nice and smooth! Also why not leave the centerconsole at climatecontrol and use the steeringwheel for media controls? It's not only way safer but also more convenient. Still I 100% agree that it is stupid, especially the heated seat controls. I'm not quite sure about charging being a pain in the ass for non-Tesla vehicles. Maybe in Canada that's a thing but here in the Netherlands you can find quick chargers almost everywhere and plenty of very quick chargers close to highways.
@@startedtech Yes true but even going thru Europe is you wanted to drive to Italy or Southern France it wouldn't really be that big of an issue, especially not compare to Tesla's
You are the only reviewer of the EV6 of the many that i have seen that has so many complaints about dash. It is as if you have never driven an EV before!
Are you planning on reviewing the Ioniq 5? Would love to hear your thoughts. I placed an order for one a few weeks ago, and test drove it. I loved it and am interested in you thoughts!
@@ShortCircuit Awesome! I drove and ordered mine in Kelowna. I'll be waiting about 8 months from order to getting the keys. Unless the current inventory/shipping issues worsen. Great video though and wishing the best for more info from Hyundai for a review unit.
A friend of mine has the EV6 GT-line and it seems pretty darn great. The UI stuff is something you'll get used to, like the shared controls for HVAC and media. At least it has a couple of knobs and a bunch of (semi-)dedicated buttons unlike Teslas. The steering wheel has all the media controls you need so it's extremely rare that you need to switch from HVAC controls to media controls in the dashboard. The menu/settings structure on the infotainment display is kinda confusing but once you've set everything up, you don't need to go to the settings. I don't know what your problem with charging was, but the EV6 supports fast charging at similar speed as Teslas do. The EV6 can go from 10 to 80 percent in under 20 minutes. If you want to use Android Auto, you can plug the phone in and keep it in the Qi charger spot in the center console, no need to throw your phone into the big storage bin on the floor. The door bottle holders work fine with 0,5 liter bottles and that size of bottle also fits into the center console cup holders.
The charging part is actually wrong. I advice to watch another review when bein interested in EVs. This car can charge up to 220kW, soon also in the winter by software added pre-conditioning. 220kW would mean to 80% in 18min. Thats faster than Tesla
From my experience, this feels like a bunch of teams that didn't really talk to each other except in review meetings making a bunch of new stuff and it turning out... About how you would expect. I expect the second iteration of this to iron out a lot of the inconveniences.
That UI bar w/the knobs is actually quite good when you get used to it. Far better than almost any other EV out there that seem to all be stuck in the 'GIANT I-PAD DASH' bullcrap that Tesla tries to claim is the future. At least in this case, the knobs don't move, and provide a fixed location for frequently used controls. As someone else mentioned below, volume is still directly available on the steering wheel.
Thanks for the review. My own mini review: I have had this car since November, and while I think it has plenty of weird quirks, it is mostly positive. A few pointers from my own situation. In my driving position the steering wheel doesn't cover anything that he mentioned, I got used to the climate/audio situation in a few days, About the Tesla thing: i appreciate that the car is more comfortable and quiet than a model 3/Y, and on top of that the EV6 is about 5-10K euro cheaper than a model Y where I live. This is comparing top trim vs "base" model y. Add a color, nicer wheels and enhanced auto pilot (no auto cancelling lane changes nonsense) and you have a car that is 10-15 K more expensive, noisier and less comfortable. Not to be overlooked. A few other things I like: I appreciate the seats being heated, ventilated and alcantara, which is exceedingly rare in the car industry (by far the most ventilated seats are leather, which I dislike), excellent cameras, decent drive assists, good room for the sporty looks, not super tall unlike most cars nowadays, excellent charging speed (230-250 kW up to 50%) which leads the car industry for avg charging speeds, good performance, decent range, unique looks, ride that is a bit firm but never harsh or unrefined (IMO), decent sound proofing.
AGREED, I traded in my 2021 Model 3 since I don't need the terrible build quality that was Tesla. I hated the noise and harshness of the ride. The performance and range were great and some tech but many things left me wanting more. The Kia has much more polarizing looks and more comfortable to drive on highway. The Meridian sound system is a joke and one of the worst for a premium sound system in a top of the line model.
the thing about the suspension of EVS is that if they need to cheap out on it they need to install very cheap suspension systems or relly on the car body flexability
The powered tailgate is a big deal to parents btw.. Coming out to the car loaded with bags to dump in the trunk and sometimes kids, the extra hand free hand it affords is crucial
Should have gotten the ioniq5 instead. Sure, looks "chonky", but solves a bit part of the issues you mentioned. It's larger inside. More headroom, not shaky at low speeds, separate media and a/c controls...
Good call out from Alex on the Audio control LC2i to add a subwoofer, not only is it a solid Line output converter Audio controls Accubass tech that's built in accounts for factory Bass frequency rolloff and restores it, so good call, as a car audio tech I appreciate seeing good recommendations for car audio stuff.
I had a Hyundai and its Subwoofer was wired in reverse. Once I opened it up and swapped the cables, I suddenly had a LOT of bass. I wouldn't be surprised if Hyundai cars still have this issue.
I couldn't disagree more with you about the climate control ui. As someone that owns one, it is incredibly easy to use and I appreciate not wasting space on extra buttons when there are some that can do double duty.
Ride quality to me when I drove one felt very similar to driving a Stinger. Not talking high speed curves or anything, but normal commute driving it has a lot of the same feel as a stinger. It would be a very fun commuter.
This honestly is the very best way to review something. Don't list all those things that can be found with a simple Google search, tell us what annoys you. It's not perfect, but chances are that if it annoys one person, it'll annoy more, so it's a great way of sharing your feelings about a product.
Volume controls/next track are always on your steering wheel so you will not be reaching for them on the dash 90% of the time. Just leave the AC controls displayed.
Honestly I like the way the Climate Control and Media stuff is in the same place with a touch of a button. I think they could have put the Climate stuff on screen, but I like its a one button system and saves space.
This shows how different people are! All the things he craps on! I love. I an one of the one ho needs buttons and hate to do everthing from the touch screen.
Howdy, I own the rwd gt-line. Couple things: I average 320 mile range in the spring(in Texas). Volume has a dedicated switch on the steering wheel. UI takes getting used to. Ipedal for me turns off because I reverse out of parking. It can park itself (sometimes) and you missed the best thing in not exploring the engine sounds. Cyber engine sounds is the best.
You make some good points on how little things that are annoying can ruin the overall experience of driving. My Hyundai Santa Cruz has some of those same annoyances but overall is enjoyable to drive. I also owned a Rivian R1T pickup for about 3 weeks and found it to be incredibly annoying and sold it. I test drove an EV6 to see if I just might not be an EV guy and ended up really liking it. After comparing to 7 other EV's including Tesla's and an Ionic 5 I find the EV6 to be my favorite and there are also some fixes for a couple of the complaints. Favorite feature is the adjustable regen at your fingertips. I was using it like a manual shifter to slow down in traffic when adaptive cruise control was not appropriate. However after testing the new GT model I really want that one now. Better ride, handling, brakes, custom mode and all that power. 50 miles less range but I will live with that for the amount of enjoyment driving it. I hope Kia does listen to the complaints and improve the little things but they are light years ahead of where they were 10 years ago and putting out some good vehicles now.
I drive a Kia with this exact layout. Honestly it's not a big deal at all, 95% of the time it's on the climate setting, and I use the steering wheel controls to adjust volume and change tracks/stations.
Honestly most touch interfaces I've used have been pretty clunky, I think LTT having a tech background is a good reviewer for things like that and the industry could really use some critique
You forgot about one thing. There is no seperation between the driver and the passenger on the floor. Firstly, if you have a bag on the passenger floor, it can slide under your pedals. Secondly, the passenger can reach the pedals and make you go faster against your will :P

THANKS YOU so much Alex . God bless you man.
Here is all you need to know about what improvements (apart from subjective nitpicking) are needed for the EV6: The Canadian GT Line Spec 2 is a rocketship, and what is needed are maybe two dozen strong tie down straps for virtually any cargo that you are carrying from a box of kleenex to tissue paper that will all take off when you put the pedal to the metal.
Very good review, identified pretty much everything I did on my test drive, I still ordered one though! Just one note, your car didn't have electronic dampers! They will come in the GT version later this year. Sport mode changes the throttle response (and maybe the steering?) but not the suspension.
I get it that you want to review cool cars as well, ut you should really consider hiring a dedicated car review person with experience in reviewing cars. Knowledge and comparison to other cars is key to make a good car review.

I wanted to give you a thumps up because I completely agree with you, but you already had 69 likes
Honda thinks you are correct, which is why they've made an effort to get rid of touch controls. Made me a lot more likely to want a Type R haha
Yeah it should be regulated honestly. Its a safety hazard.
Steering wheel controls are better imo
Hey I am driving a Kia myself.
About the Volume control, you can set climate control on the panel and just use the volume leaver on the steering.
About the not presentet map in the display: I asked my dealer about the map feature and they answered they currently cannot integrate a map as there are patents in place by VW group and some other car manufacturers that prevent them from doing so.
Else pretty neat review.
My takeaway from this video is that they have a pretty solid foundation and if they clean up the UI and other smaller things this could be a pretty darned good vehicle in a few years.
That wasn’t my take away
My takeaway is that lmg must be staffed by midgets if Alex is only 6' tall!
Is,everyone can't drive and need nanny crap to help them...
My take away is this thing has been designed by seperate teams and nobody thought about an integrated product.
My takeaway is a fish, a meat patty, and half a scoop of chips.

Actually I've found any reputable car youtuber tells it how it is. Car folks are very persnickety people.

Touch controls are a safety hazard imho.
They always do stupid design stuff with electric cars. I mean look a the design of the earlier electric cars..

You're not focusing enough on:
A) How great the range is.
You are spot on. Not a well informed review

What do you think on back parking? having a long wheelbase makes it harder to park?

Surprised with the UI issues as that is usually a Kia strong point. I love the UI on my K5. Minus the wireless charging which is pointless if I want to use CarPlay.
I'm sure Alex on Autos can fill you in lol
I know the model 3 just barely fits 3 car seats so I'd assume this would.
From personal experience, this car fits three people quite well, and everyone has felt that the car has a lot of space, just not so much vertical space
"Because there are very few EV mini vans" I assume you mean there are no EV mini vans.

Or they could not combine it and still give you temperature control knobs... Like the proper cars do.

It is disappointing when reviewers do not taken the time to get familiar with the vehicles that they are reviewing. Is there something up with the framerate on this video? After the first like, minute and a half it gets all choppy.
same here, and im pleased to see its not my computer hehe
It gets fixed after the adbreak
You are the only reviewer of the EV6 of the many that i have seen that has so many complaints about dash. It is as if you have never driven an EV before!
He's not a car expert he's nitpicking everything to show us that he knows it all
I like these reviews and I hope ShortCircuit gets to review a Polestar car.
Awesome review, so glad to see these ev vids still coming on short circuit
Are you planning on reviewing the Ioniq 5? Would love to hear your thoughts. I placed an order for one a few weeks ago, and test drove it. I loved it and am interested in you thoughts!
We're waiting to hear back
@@ShortCircuit Awesome!
I advice
So, I have the ev6, and everything you complained about are absolutely not problems at all.
Also the cooled seats come in all the models, not just the GT
In my driving position the steering wheel doesn't cover anything that he mentioned, I got used to the climate/audio situation in a few days,
About the Tesla thing: i appreciate that the car is more comfortable and quiet than a model 3/Y, and on top of that the EV6 is about 5-10K euro cheaper than a model Y where I live.
I love playing spot the location on your vids like this. Nice to see Fernridge in the background.
the thing about the suspension of EVS is that if they need to cheap out on it they need to install very cheap suspension systems or relly on the car body flexability
If they wanted to cheap out they wouldn't have put in electronically controlled damping.
I think a tech focused channel reviewing EVs is super refreshing
theres something wrong with the framerate of this video
Just bought one and love it. This car is like alien technology compared to anything I have driven.
Is this video 20fps or something?
I'm not even interested in cars yet this video made me stay from start to finish. Well done!
I like the car content
10/10 great filming. Even though I'm not the demo for this vehicle, the video made for a very appealing watch as Alex talked about features.
I couldn't disagree more with you about the climate control ui. As someone that owns one, it is incredibly easy to use and I appreciate not wasting space on extra buttons when there are some that can do double duty.
finally someone with some logical sense. How many times do you set your temp in your car? uhm never, they are clever enoug that we dont need that.
It looks good in blue ngl, and Kia's rebranding is fire, now they look more luxurious and sporty
Early gang!
Carwow hosting in a other universe.
Volume controls/next track are always on your steering wheel so you will not be reaching for them on the dash 90% of the time. Just leave the AC controls displayed.
Oh boy I can't wait for Alex to unbox this car on the unboxing/first impressions channel, and in no way give it an in depth review!
Alex .You are my inspiration.I like the way you explain everything about technology I hope you will make awesome video like this because In my country is no one can do like you and I’m not fluent in your language but I try to learning English to improve my skill to listen what you said and feel how you want to give viewers feel. THANKS YOU so much Alex . God bless you man.
MORE CAR CONTENT!!! You guys are killing it
Here is all you need to know about what improvements (apart from subjective nitpicking) are needed for the EV6:
The Canadian GT Line Spec 2 is a rocketship, and what is needed are maybe two dozen strong tie down straps for virtually any cargo that you are carrying from a box of kleenex to tissue paper that will all take off when you put the pedal to the metal.
iPedal was adjusted via OTA with impressive results. Apparently sending feedback to Kia does work.
I love it when non-car people review cars. It provides a very interesting point of view.
Modern cars be like: Let me have a bunch of touchscreens...
Sometimes physical buttons is still way better than a touch surface
especially in a car driving, you'll just bump into all the touch button
