This never gets old ... I was at an Embrace gig a few years ago, Danny McNamara (the singer) said he was so happy , he felt like he had the Moon on a Stick,. I was so happy to hear it, I felt like ... I had the Moon on A Stick !
It makes me so happy that Stewart Lee has managed to become so successful and respected now. He's followed his own path, stayed true to his indie soul and never sold out once. Massive respect to him. He's got the moon on a stick now. He deserves it too.
Richard nearly had the moon on a stick, but threw it away on plays about Rasputin (I actually saw it and enjoyed it, Rasputin was played by a guy out of The Thick of It) although he does have a reasonably successful podcast. I heard the kids calling it RHLSTP.
Fist of Fun, S01E06: "I've been thinking about this Rich, and I actually, I don't want to do anything with you again ever. Um, it's just that, in essence, I am better than you, I have better ideas, but you sort of spoil them by just, you know, looming around."
I've been saying moon on a stick a lot recently and I'd completely forgotten where I'd picked it up from. Funny how things stay with you. Lee & Herring are amazing.
Lee and Herring are the Morecambe and Wise of their generation. Their shows were head and shoulders above their peers, memorable character work from Kevin Eldon as well, who is probably the most under recognised comedian still working today.
Out on DVD now, Fist of Fun :) No excuse for anyone to now lower themselves into the wonderful world of Jelly, Moons on Sticks and mouldering talking oranges.
Big laugh at the end: "give it to Stewart Lee, he's the one who wants it!" By the way, £11.50 seems like an absolute steal; this detail actually made me feel old, like an old person remembering when they still had shillings.
I think he may have been fibbing - not sure you could actually buy a Moon on a stick that big for less than twelve quid since Callaghan got into No.10.
This is £25 to buy from go faster stripe dot com and worth every penny! (the entire series not just this clip) support them, buy it.. its costing them money to put it out on dvd.
@riffnark Hang on, so you've gone to the trouble of finding a programme you don't like then replied to a 3 year old comment about it? And what the hell's blud?
You may love it, but do you remember it? I'll vouch for dave when I say that despite enlightenment, most people at my works still didn't get the reference - and they were often older than me. Ignorance at all ages!
@@northpalm9 sup bro. In the time since I made this comment, I graduated high school, graduated college, got a girlfriend, had four jobs, got an apartment, and now I'm buying a house.
@@mryeti94 Wow, that’s actually nutty. It’s like I discovered a time capsule or something. I’m very happy for you and all that you may have accomplished through the decade. You seem to have a firm grip on life, and I can only hope it will stay that way. Thank you for taking time out of your day to respond to this nostalgia-seeker. You’ve made my day. Godspeed.

He's let himself go though.
Shame about those war crimes in Bosnia tho

I go past a sandwich shop in Birkenshaw called Moon On A Stick on the way to work. Even after several years, it still makes me grin.
I've been saying moon on a stick a lot recently and I'd completely forgotten where I'd picked it up from. Funny how things stay with you. Lee & Herring are amazing.
"That isn't even the moon on a stick!"
"Oh so you want the moon on a stick?"
"Yes... No!"
Fucking fantastic.
This show was just pure class, top quality entertainment.

I remember Eldon from his appearance on "Packing Them In". His best work, I thought...
The Actor Kevin Eldon*

I still try to pass this off as a well-worn idiom.
I forget it's not.
‘See?!’
‘No!’
Ahh the good old days... when they liked each other 😜
Best double act of the last 200 years.
love the bit at the end where richard says, "give it to stewart lee"

Chinese Chris Isaak hasn't let himself go yet.
0:10 The Dara O'Briain Errrrrrm
I just showed this to my girlfriend. She said she couldn't even see the stick. She wants the moon on a stick she does😮
He's never happy is Stew, I dunno what he wants...
The moon on a stick 😔
Just as good as Monty Python or Only Fools And Horses or anything else
It’s not as funny as Only Fools and horses, at least not the episode where Del Boy falls through the bar.

ARE YOU HAPPY NOW, MOON-STICK BOY???
Nice to see this much forgotton catchphrase and comedy show again after all this time!!!!

@Pook365 @dudemusicspace I've been saying this for years, and never knew where it came from...and I'm a massive Stewart Lee fan. Oh the shame of it...

I say this all the time, no one ever knows why. I stare at them like they must be clueless before they have a chance to question my sanity.
I made a moon on a stick for my husband (wasn't as big as that though - I've only got an A3 printer :)
This is brilliant!
Now I want a moon on a stick.
I never understood why they cancelled this programme
@riffnark Truely a coherent and damning indictment.
@davelpo You are not alone :)
@kaioxygen You know what he wants...
Catface - herring even sounds like mr weebl
They shout a lot, don't they?
