I found you after sending my oldest to private school for preschool and kindergarten. I decided to homeschool from 1sr grade on. My daughter was bullied and literally hated it towards the end. She now tells me every day how lucky she is to spend more time with me ❤ we do a Co Op 3 days a week, and the hybrid is perfect for us. I get a tiny break with my toddler, but I dont feel she's gone a lot of the day.
@rd7726 I agree! The girl who bullied my daughter spent 12 hours at school, she went to before care at 6 am and was the last picked up at 6 pm. One of my best friends was a teacher at the school, and told me after I shared what had happened with that particular student. So so sad 😞
I woke up one morning and GOD put on my heart to homeschool my child. So, after this school year ends, we will start homeschooling. Now I'm just getting the house ready and researching homeschool curriculum. God began to show me all the benefits of homeschooling. One on one time with my child- working on areas a little longer that my child struggles with, etc. He told me its not going to be easy, but that with His help i can do it. Philippians 4:13 kjv I never thought i would homeschool my child btw. God changed my heart.
The fear of them resenting you later on or them telling you they wished they hadn’t one day will NOT happen as long as you continue in a relationship with your children. A vulnerable humble honest relationship with our kids while raising them up in the Lord is such an unshakable thing. Even on the bad days when mommy gets down to say sorry for reacting. Even on the days we feel inadequate. I try to remember that closeness to Jesus and to our kids is really the foundation of why we’re doing this.
Thank you so much for the encouragement! We do strive to do this with each of our children and don’t pretend to be prefect people. Open and honest communication is so key! I appreciate you saying this ❤️
I too agree whole heartedly with this! Being open and honest with our kids, even on the bad days paints a good picture that life isn’t perfect. The grass may seem greener on the other side but usually it’s not. Giving our kids life experiences helps them realize how truly blessed they are no matter if they go to school or not. No judgment either way. Everyone has to do what’s right for their families. It is easy to get caught up in a comparison trap which is a trick of the enemy! I love your heart and how you take this decision so seriously because it does shape the way our kids see/experience life. Because of that, it is not easy for many people to make this decision (myself included). I commend you for taking the time to sincerely pray for direction in your life regarding your children. I once heard someone say “Homeschooling is 90% raising kids, the other 10% is school” and boy, is that so true. You’re absolutely right! No one is going to care more about your child than you. No one knows your child better than you do, which makes us homeschooling moms live out our calling and is the most rewarding thing we can do for our kids! I’m not sure if you have thought about this, but this just came to mind. Having all the girls home with you is such a special gift and bonding experience for all the girls to embrace their baby sister. We cannot replace time and if your daughter went to school, she could miss out on this awesome experience. It may be something that your 3rd grader would not necessarily think about, which is considering her thoughts/feelings, because you as the parent are able to see things that our kids can’t. Sometimes our kids cannot truly see what we see because they haven’t matured to see those things yet. That doesn’t mean we won’t hear them, but ultimately we are responsible to guide them and sometimes that means making decisions for them (even if they don’t understand fully) and raise them up in them the ways of the Lord. Sending your child to school served a purpose, which has helped her break out of her shell! That’s awesome! Never apologize or feel guilty for doing what you know is right. I too, know God has called me to homeschool and it’s been by far the biggest blessing to our family. Congratulations by the way! You have a wonderful family and I love watching all your videos!❤❤❤
I totally relate to the difficulty of deciding whether to homeschool or private school! Personally I wish we had made the decision to homeschool earlier, I feel like my little one had several wasted years… but God had a reason for them and He never wastes anything, so I have to trust in that
Oh I felt this. We pulled ours from Christian school in 1st and 3rd. I left a demanding career to homeschool, thus opening more time for our family and for my husband to take on a different role at work. Well my oldest said he wanted to go back to school when he got to junior high, which hurt my heart but I told him we would have prayerful and serious discussions as we got closer to that time. Public school is not an option for us, and private school in CA where we are is expensive and would require a second income. So we were struggling with that. Fast forward to a few days ago and my son told me, “Mom, thank you for homeschooling me. I never want to go back. Kids at my old school are horrible now (he still sees them at youth group).” He said he doesn’t know how they have all changed so much, but he is grateful that he doesn’t have to deal with the bullying and drama of school.” He even reiterated that to his doctor today (who also homeschools his daughter). I never thought I would homeschool, now I pray we never stop. But I will let my children be heard. We definitely can’t afford our Christian high school tuition $16,000 per student per year unless I return to work, and I can’t see working to have less time as a family. I pray they continue to thrive in our homeschool and to love and appreciate the fruit of our efforts and prayer led direction for them. Thank you for sharing your prayer and thought process with us.
@@thepracticalhomeschooler very expensive for high school. $65k for a high school education is just crazy to me. Thank you, I’m happy that he recognizes it too.
This has been the most encouraging video on homeschooling that Ive seen. Thank you!! Im on my second year of homeschooling but Ive struggled so much with this decision. I resonate with the fears you listed and have prayed endlessly that God would give me a clear answer. We are going to take it year by year but as of now we are continuing to homeschool. I so appreciate your honestly and vulnerability! I don't feel so alone in this process. Congrats on your new baby girl🎉
I did a little bit of everything growing up because we moved a few times and my parents had these same struggles (especially when homeschool was not that popular back in the 90s!). I did private school, public school, homeschool, back to private school for 1 semester, then back to home, and finally part of an accredited homeschool program that met once a week. My two siblings bounced arpund the same way, and all 3 of us thrived in different education situations! It's hard making a decision- I had the same panic last year with my rising 1st grader! One tip with homeschooling that actually really answered our prayers was looking into different homeschool programs/classes locally. This seems to be the best balance for us to have "class" and field trips and learning at home 😊 One child, one year at a time!
I'm a teacher that is leaving the classroom to homeschool my daughter next year in 6th grade. It wasn't an easy decision for sure. I'm starting my own YT channel to document our journey.
Thank you for being so vulnerable and open and honest about your struggles. Your heart for God is evident and you are so wise in getting your guidance from God and people who love the Lord. I have been through many of the same feelings/struggles. My daughter has homeschooled and been to school. We are currently homeschooling (after a lot of prayer) and I know it is where God wants us right now. Your videos are very inspiring to me. Thank you for sharing your journey and wisdom!
I’m considering pulling my daughter out of kinder and homeschooling next year…. YES to all of this. It is SUCH a weighty decision but it comes across from other people like no big deal. 1000% agree with you on all of this. It’s so so hard.
Hi Lisa! You are right, it is weighty. I took a whole year to discern the homeschool route, asked my homeschool friends a lot of questions, and did a lot of my own research before I eventually took both of my kids out of school after preschool. I knew it was God who was pulling me in this direction, because I'd never make this decision on my own. Ever since that day, I've been so glad with my decision, feeling so blessed and secure with this choice. Many parents do end up feeling like they only regret not doing it sooner. So I hope that encourages you in whatever path you decide. One thing that helped us transition was a once a week co-op, it's something you can look for in your area if its available and interests you. 😊
Lauren you always offer so much encouragement... thanks for being vulnerable and sharing with us your journey ❤ God is definitely using you is so many ways... and love your heart ❤
I remember you going through this last year, and I was super proud of you for being open and proud of your daughter for chasing it! I’m not even a homeschooler, I’m an “after schooler” I say, because I just want to spend that time at the kitchen table working with my daughter. It is how I serve her and it’s how I honor her mind, and offer her ways -a path- to a better tomorrow. I’m giving her skills and opportunity while I can
Really appreciated how you so thoughtfully shared your thoughts and struggles regarding making this decision. As a mom just finishing my 18th year homeschooling, I'm obviously biased toward homeschooling, but I know that's not always the best choice for all families. I'm really happy you've come to a decision you have peace with, and am happy you'll have all your sweet girls together with you. You're doing a great job....and not because of your schooling choice, but because you're allowing the Lord to take first place, following Him in raising your family, and loving those precious babies with all your heart. ❤ Looking forward to future videos....blessings sweet mama! ❤
Proud of you, Mama! You and your husband are looking out for the family as a whole. Way to go! And like you said… a year at a time. Reevaluate next year. Prayers for a wonderful year of all your girls at home!
Thank you for this video!! I never thought I would do it either but I will be homeschooling my 3 kids for the first time. I went to public school and my husband went to both private & public. We knew we wanted to send them to private school and they've each been going since PK3. They will be in PK4, 2nd, and 4th grade this year. I only plan to do it for one year and send them back which we as a family agreed on. But like you said, just take it year by year so that may change. It was the hardest decision I ever had to make (next to leaving my demanding engineering job). I still pray whether we made the right decision. I doubt myself whether or not I can teach them what they need to know. My kids made excellent grades at school but I was still helping them after school each day which got exhausting. Also, I realized they are good at memorizing everything for tests and could not explain anything to me when I asked. I hope homeschooling with help open their minds!
This is so relatable. I was homeschooled and hated it. My husband was public schooled and hated it. He wanted to homeschool our kids, but I was so against it until the negative peer influence became extremely apparent in our oldest. I pulled him out and home schooled him for a year, and he hated it. So I sent him back, and he begged me to pull him back out. After much prayer, we have decided we're committing to homeschooling him for at least the next 3 years until he gets to middle school. I think for most people, it's not just a decision you make once but something you need to evaluate often and pray about frequently. The Holy Spirit is faithful. If we seek his guidance, he will turn whatever decision we make for our good and for his glory!
We went through something similar. My husband and I decided to meet the girls in the middle. They are homeschooled but take classes with homeschool friends 2 days a week (similar to a co op). It broke my heart that they were gone 2 days a week but it has been so wonderful especially for my youngest. She has totally come out of her shell and is more independent. Next year I will be teaching some classes there so I’m really excited for this new journey.
A co-op with friends? I literally have never considered that. My best friend's kids are close in age to mine, though gender-reversed which MIGHT b an issue considering that girls and boys hit developmental milestones at different times. Maybe a unit study that hits a range of ages? Doing homeschool together for social purposes sounds fantastic.
Oh my I thought you were going to say you were going to send them all to school so I was surprised when you said you were keeping them there!!! I'm so excited for you! I can't imagine how hard the decision was but I'm so happy for you!
Thank you so much for the video. I don’t know any homeschool moms so I have no one to talk to about this and no one understands how HARD it is to keep homeschooling or send them to school. I felt every word you said and I’m so grateful I’m not alone in this struggle.
This was such a wonderful video. Thank you for sharing your story. I’m reluctant to watch videos from homeschooling moms because of their black and white views on education. We are a family of 8, ages 3-16. 4 of my kids are adopted from foster care which brings special and high needs. We tried homeschooling but it’s just not possible for us. I’ve had to learn ( and continue learning) how to surrender my desires for their education.
Always remember your “why”….definitely agree with you. It’s easy to get lost in the homeschool realm with all the things but grounding your self on why we’re doing what we’re doing helps stay focused. Each year will look different and just need to choose what’s best for your own family❤ And Congrats on your little girl! Didn’t know if you revealed it before but caught you saying you’re staying home with “all 4 girls” ❤❤
Sometimes what looks like a happy easy decision is a front for how they really feel about a decision. I had to put my kids in school for reasons outside of my control and I chose to put on a happy front for my kids and for my emotional well being. From the outside it definitely looked the way you explained it looks to you, but it was a hard and painful decision on the inside. It was definitely the season of life we were in and now we are back to homeschooling. Thank you for sharing your heart, I love watching your videos!
Love this video. I related so much to what you said. We sent our middle child to school in March this year, after 3 years of homeschooling. Prayers and tears honestly since August last year, …..but he’s happy at school. I too don’t know what the future looks like, because like you I have swung back and forth. Anyway, looking forward to see what you choose in your curriculums for the new school year year. I am struggling to choose a science for my son, 7, he’ll be 8 in Oct. I am looking at literally everything. 😀
This was so helpful. I have 3 kids and pregnant with baby # 4 beginning of October. My boys have been at Christian private school and next year they want to home school and I am praying and feel honestly overwhelmed and not qualified to do this. I resonate with everything u mentioned. Thanks for this channel! And making this content. This encouraged me a lot. Thank you!!!!
It certainly can feel overwhelming! And you’ll hear this a lot, it it’s true…if you feel led to homeschool, you definitely will be qualified ❤️you care about their education more than anyone else does!
I totally thought you were going to say everyone was going back to school 😅 so happy for y’all ! Your absolutely right , everyone has their own journey , for us we didn’t have much of an option because we live in a small town with no Christian schools near us and public school for us is also not the option we want. Thanks for sharing ! And congratulations🙏🏻
Oh, I can relate to everything you have shared, and it’s nice to know that others go through this spiral of thought process and praying and waiting as well. And I love what you said about having to think about the family as a whole. That’s tough because you see that your decisions are harder for some, but you just keep trusting that God is working it out. Thank you and may God bless you on your journey this year!
My goodness, I needed this. We have been leaning toward giving school a try next year. I’ve just been so nervous about whether I am doing the right thing. Your words have really put me at peace. This doesn’t have to be forever, and I am doing what feels best. Thank you so much for your video!
Glad you made this, I've struggled with this and could have done this whole video. We pulled our daughter 2 years ago to homeschool b/c she has dyslexia while our son is still in private school the one we pulled her from. After months and months of prayers and her begging to go back, we are going to try a different school for her that our church runs. I am having to remind myself constantly that we can go back to homeschooling if we need to. I have years of curriculum purchased too, lol. I had to really look at what she wanted to do and if I was homeschooling because I didn't want her to fail and wanted to protect her from that. So we will see how it goes this year! We've found peace with our decision but I can't even fully express how hard of one it was! I don't think we've ever made that hard of a decision.
We are considering homeschooling our rising 6th grader from public school. Here in Arkansas, it's just continuing to not look promising for children's education, teachers etc! My 6th grader is so smart and I think she would benefit even more through homeschooling. I already homeschool my 1st grader because she really wanted to homeschool after Kinder, so it won't put me out. She definitely LOVES it and is thriving! I'm so thankful God lead me to homeschool! I will continue to pray about homeschooling my oldest!
Thank you for sharing this video! Although we have some differences in the structure of our family, I totally identify with your thought processes!! These decisions are so high stakes. My husband and I pray every year about what God wants for each of our children. And we pray for God to bless them even if we make the wrong decision. Because, we are only human and we are going to make mistakes in parenting. I pray for God to give your girls a renewed excitement for homeschooling and excitement about having a new baby sister too!!
Someone I was talking to said there is no wrong decision…the most important thing is focusing and maintaining the relationship and being a godly example. It was so helpful…but I definitely do feel you that I still struggle with it l. And yes they’re excited for baby sister ❤️
Love ya mama, and let the unboxing start🥰 thank you for always sharing your heart . Thankful for you and all all your content you share. Many blessings and happy homeschooling
I feel this message in my soul. My daughter has been in a charter school since kinder but we are moving this summer and I don’t know if I should home school, transfer to her current charter company or a different charter. I am loving recommendations from other parents. Taking our daughters needs and desires into account.
My son this year mentioned the thought of going back to public school. At first it broke my heart, but after discussing it with him I understand exactly where he is coming from. We have yet to make a final decision on it but it has become a positive discussion in our home. I agree that it cannot be about me and my feelings. It has to be about what he wants and his journey.
My son has chosen to go back to public school next year for 8th grade and it was super hard for me at first. But, after a lot of prayer I feel this is the right thing for him this year while my others stay home. I don't know what the future holds for my others or even for him but I agree I needed to listen to him and come to an agreement together.
Lauren. My name is Lauren as well and I feel like the last 3 years of homeschooling for me have been word for word what you’ve just said. It helps me SO much to know I’m not the only one wrestling with the Lord on this decision. Thank you for sharing ❤️
i appreciate this video and your vulnerability so so much! I have just decided to homeschool my twins in kindergarten and it took many months as well to figure this out
Hesitant homeschooler mom here- yes, educational decisions for my children weigh on my heart so heavily too. There are too many days I want to send my oldest boy to school because of his attitude. My youngest most likely will do fine in homeschooling. Homeschooling is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but it definitely has it’s sweet moments.
Lauren this video came at the perfect time. We have been homeschooling but we are sending my daughters to private Christian school next year. 😢 it’s been a lot and a hard pill to swallow but I totally feel like the Lord convicted me that I was homeschooling for me and my friends not for them. It’s so hard!
Please do what is best for you and your family. Remember, if you continue to homeschool and then you want to return to the Christian school, that's ok too. I have done homeschooling, afterschooling and public/private schooling. To bring myself peace, I have continuously updated my home library with living books and activities to ensure that my children are developing into the best versions of themselves.
Thank you so much for sharing! Yes, no matter what we decide moving forward, I’ll always do some sort of “extra” with them (like in the summers, or maybe at night) for those exact reasons 😊
Thank you for your honesty, life is full of twists and turns! We are also sending our entering third grader to an in-person charter school this year. I loved homeschooling, but I think I loved it more than my daughter. She thrives with her tutor, and not with me. Also, she wants to be with more kids and has been asking me to send her to school for a while now. I'm letting loose of my grip haha and we are going to try it next year, but I am so very nervous!! It's in God's hands.
I appreciate your honesty about not knowing about the future. I prayed and didn’t receive an answer until after a news article came out in my town about a teacher putting cameras in the locker room and recording children changing. This school would be where all my children would go if they went to public school. After that came out, I prayed again and was told to keep them home and homeschool. I don’t know for how long but I know what the plan for now is.
I let my daughter go back to public school for 5 months and removed her immediately after the bullying started, it was a horrible experience for her. I decided then homeschooling was for her. Everyone is different and experiences do form our decisions. I will say the only reason I allowed her to go back is because we're overseas and she missed friends, well she I guess she saw many kids are not friendly unfortunately. I never saw myself homeschooling, I'm actually a nurse but now for certain I'm a homeschooler. She was one who asked to try public school, then begged me to bring her home. We know now at least, lesson learned for us. I agree every kid is different and every experience is different for certain. Blessings to you and your children ❤
I’m so sorry to hear that 😞 I know that’s an issue for so many! Thankfully you were able to listen to her on both ends and she’s satisfied right at home now ☺️
Wonderful video! We have homeschooled all along but I’ve been debating trying school next year for about 9 months now. And it is something I think about all the time and it is such a hard decision that is weighing heavily on my mind. Honestly, I go back and forth daily. Still don’t know what we’ll do…
My goodness so relatable. We pulled my oldest out of a microschool mid year with the intent to finish her first grade at home and find a new microschool for 2nd grade but she said I want to homeschool, I'm ok to go back to a new microschool but what I really want is continue homeschooling. I went back and forth for what seemed like ever. And finally decided to just give it a try. If it ends up not working out nothing says we can't do something different. 😅
So besides all the other factors I am si glad that you came to the decision to homeschooling them all even for just the year! I think it will be a blessing for them to be able to enjoy their new baby sister at home!! Also thanks for all.the videos, we just moved again and it's been very hard. I did take your advice and I won't be switching anyone's math except my son, and we just did Apologia math 4 day 1 and it us perfect for him !! Thank you!
I’m not through the video yet but wanted to stop here to say thank you for your honesty and willingness to be vulnerable. We are all going through things and have doubt about all of these big decisions we make in life. It helps to talk about them and to listen to others so thank you for sharing. - second generation homeschooling mom of three who may one day ask about going to school (we are 6 years in)
Such good advice what you said about being careful listening to others when they don’t know your whole family dynamic and story. That can apply to SO many different areas in life! That’s one of the MANY comforting things about God, and that He knows us intimately and knows everything about our families, children, finances, etc. Listening for His voice first is so important. I’m so happy for your decision and pray blessings on your upcoming year! I’m also expecting, but it’s my 3rd. I’ll be looking for some tips on homeschooling with a newborn. 🥴😉
Such a great video! We plan to homeschool starting in grade 1, preK and K provides free therapies so as my kiddo has Autism and that’s critical for us. It feels selfish to take her out in grade 1 but I feel it is best for all of us.
That’s great she was able to get the therapy she needs. And you do have to do what’s best for everyone, doesn’t mean you still don’t want what’s best for her ❤️
Only God knows what is happening in school when parents are not there. Even if we think we don’t see any indication of a concern. If He leads you to homeschool- there is a purpose. We don’t lean on our own understanding. Thank you for sharing your example of this. In our understanding we may not see why, but He knows why. Children may not understand the choices we make, but if we are asking the Lord for His will and we are trusting in the direction He leads us in, He is faithful. He loves our children more than even we can love our children.
Thanks for sharing your heart so honestly❤ I have such a hard time making decisions sometimes! Sometimes I just have to go into the worse case… like, if I make this decision and it’s not the right one (after I’ve prayed, thought, discussed and still don’t have a clear answer…), what is ultimately the worse thing that could happen? And if that happens, is everyone still alive and breathing that we can continue on with the next option?😂 oh wow.. the joys and blessings of motherhood ❤ so thankful to have connected with you! Side note, I literally feel like I just watched your video about her going to school! Can’t believe a year has flown by… You’re a wonderful mom!
It is wise to look at things long term, and evaluate a year at a time because life does have seasons! Enjoy this beautiful season of bonding together as a family! You won’t regret it!
Thank you so so much for this video. My daughter went to pre-k and kindergarten at a Catholic school. She has been homeschooled since 1st (in 4th grade now). Homeschooling is hard. She is adamant that she does not ever want to go to school again. The issue is me. She fights with me a lot of the time about doing her work and it gives me a lot of anxiety. I took her to a shadow day at the Catholic school she had gone to Kindergarten at. I was set that I was sending her there for 5th in Sept. and then the doubts creep in about if it’s the right thing for her or am I sending her because it’s best for me. It is a massive struggle. I wish someone would just decide for me but like you said, that’s impossible. I think the decision is so hard because we love our children immensely and just want what is best. Thank you again for being so honest!
Aww I too can relate! But anytime I ask my son if he wants to go to school he says no. I do it just to check in. I never want to homeschool for selfish reasons either!
@@jasonrhtx yes I have 2 older sons (27 and 21) that went through school and I know firsthand how incredibly tough the middle and high school years are. My daughter has been homeschooled almost 4 full years now. We are involved in tons of activities sometimes too many it feels like lol. My daughter never wants to stop homeschooling. She loves it. Most of the time I do too but sometimes I could use a break lol.
@@barbaramoss6917 Sounds like you’re doing a wonderful job as a homeschooling parent! Your daughter seems to enjoy homeschooling and to be thriving. You won’t get a more customized education than via homeschooling. And with live/online instruction available and co-ops, those resources can supplement where needed and lessen some of your workload as a homeschooling parent/teacher. We’re evaluating our options. It would be a big sacrifice as a dual income household, but the benefits for my daughter and wife seem to outweigh the costs in time and lost income.
With the way you were leading up to your final decision, I was 100% sure you were going to say all your girls were going to school, lol! Looking forward to seeing your girls’ curriculum picks. I just loved the TGATB unboxing video from last year. It inspired me to do something similar with my kids! ❤
I don't know why i was so releaved at the end of this video and happy you decided to keep them home. I do agree that children should be included in these decisions. Although they are still children and only see the cool new things and can't fully understand the weight of these choices. It is not a choice to make lightly. In today's world, even Christian schools are not fully safe from toxic culture issues happening. At least, that's what I see in my area. Alot of people in my area choose to send their kids to Christian school because it's more affordable but they are not Christian and have no intention of following the Faith.
I can totally see why you would have these struggles in deciding where each child should be when you have this history with the private Christian school! I’m sure the private school feels like family/home! ❤
I’m nervous that my second grader will eventually ask to go to a traditional school like his older sister. I know it sounds dramatic but I feel like I’d grieve almost if I send him off 5 days a week 7 hours a day. I love your updates and and love that your daughter thrived in new ways in school this year. ❤
My son my oldest I homeschooled through fourth grade and in fifth grade he went to private Christian School. He stayed there until he graduated, but every year we prayed about what to do. His younger sisters went to many events and games at the school, toured classrooms, met kids, and neither of them ever wanted to go there or to any school. They are sixth and seventh grade now and have zero interest in going to school. They only want to homeschool and because it allows them to do more of what they want to do which is dancing, Art, Theater, and voice.
I really understand what you mean here ...I have one that wants to be in school and I'm like what am I doing so wrong ?? It's hard ..I flip flop in my mind a lot but I have many reasons that we feel homeschooling is what we should be doing , but it's hard to know what your supposed to do
Sometimes it’s nothing we’re doing wrong…it’s just that they want to try something different (and the reasons will vary depending on the child). My husband reminding me of that was so helpful!
This is resonates with me. Every year I enroll my kids in May only to mail my letter of intent the first week of August! I do this because I want a few months to think o It over. 😂 It is truly such a difficult decision to make for me and I believe, given my personality, the decision will get harder each year they get older. This morning on my way to homeschool gym class I listened to Pam Barnhill’s podcast about reasons to homeschool….if anyone needs to hear a list of great reasons to homeschool I would highly recommend it! It’s called “Why More and More Families Are Choosing to Homeschool Their Kids”.
So encourage! Also, When you stay in the Will of God it is protection . On hard days you can go back and say God you told me to do this so help me!!! On those good days, it makes you just love and trust Him even more!
i am going threw this right now i pulled my son out of public snhool and he is asking why did i do that why cant he go to real school and i feel a little heart broken because i feel like im taking somthing from him that he i guess loved but in my heart i feel homeschooling is best choice for my kids and he makes me think well maybe next year or maybe in high school we can talk about it and hes in first grade
I love this! Season of life is everything I homeschool and work full time I was against homeschooling and it was my husbands idea as well!! Lol we married right!! Thank the good lord for putting us in the right direction😊
I'm with you: these decisions are huge, and I cannot bring myself to take them lightly! I also agree kids get a vote, just not the controlling one 😉😂 So glad you have your answer, and that you have the next year figured out, so far! 😁
Hey! Can you show us what exactly you use for your yearly report for kindergarten or elementary years. I have a kindergartner so I’m just wondering what I would need if I wanted to send my kids to school what the school would need.
@@thepracticalhomeschooler yeah I’m in SC so not to strict but I like to see what other resources people use. I have a attendance, folder of past learned things, & so far a 90 day report, & what we do daily.
Haley, I have a friend who lives in South Carolina and she is under an umbrella school that tells her what she needs to have on file, what subjects to teach etc. Definitely follow HSLDA laws according to your state and if you need an umbrella school, there is that option as well!
That's interesting that your daughter's private school is using BJU Press. I usually hear of private schools using Abeka. I'm wondering if you considered BJU DLO for a smooth transition back to homeschool. We might try a subject or two from them soon.
It’s important to consider our childrens’ feelings, and to pray about these types of situations. Every family and situation is different and the Lord knows best. However, I do find it interesting what parents are “flexible” on letting their children decide. I make my kids brush their teeth, even when they don’t want to. They might grow up and resent me for it, but as their parent I know that it’s for their own good. Likewise, if the Lord has called me to a certain schooling decision then I can have peace in knowing it is for their best, and I hope I would follow through in obedience. I do think there are some things that God has placed on our hearts that are just for a season. If He is guiding in a different direction, then we can rest in knowing that. Thanks for sharing!
Yes, things like brushing their teeth, doing chores, basic hygiene…that’s not what I’m talking about and I would say MOST parents aren’t just allowing their kids to not have personal hygiene…so I don’t think you can compare the two. Like I said in my video, there are many things we have rules and guidelines for that we don’t and won’t budge on (yes, you have to brush your teeth, and no you’re not eating cookies all day for every meal, which goes without saying). And things that my husband and I are convicted on and have solid rules about that we don’t budge on (movies, shows, phones, etc)…I’m not talking about that either. I’m referring to decisions that do not go against our personal morals, values and convictions.
@@thepracticalhomeschooler, thanks for responding. Perhaps I misunderstood. You have mentioned several times you felt God calling you to homeschool. It is to that point that I was responding and that just like we don’t waver on a physical (or spiritual) need like brushing teeth (or taking them to church/whatever the guideline may be physically or spiritually), why would we waver on what God called us to do for their educational needs…out of fear that they might resent us? It just seemed contrary to say God called me to do this, yet if my kids want different we will change what we are doing. Again, I may have just misunderstood. 😊
Here is a [[hug]]. Your kids will love and appreciate you even more in their adult years. I’ll give my two cents: I believe kids don’t know what is good for them, parents do. I believe we are living in times where children are to be taught at home and the more Scripture the better. My kids have never been in the public system. They went to a great Christian school, excellent teachers, Abeka, Masterbooks & BJU curriculums, small classes, Fine Arts and sports…GPA average 4.0… there was nothing wrong with the school, it was the kids. The amount of garbage and filth they would pass around on their phones was disgusting, as well as their conversations, etc. It does not matter if you give a cell to your kids or not (my kids they didn’t have one) and they were still exposed to it. My son was pretty strong and was able to quickly stop it, he graduated and is now in college. But my daughter (6.5 years younger) 6th grade was faced with the filth of the world. It really doesn’t matter if you go to a Christian or public school, it has to do with what they kids are being taught at home. So I left her there 1 year, gave it another chance bc of the amazing art & music program they had but the peer pressure was unbelievable. So I decided to homeschool her. Never in my life did I think I would hs but here I am. She is happier than ever, she tells me she feels free and less stressed. My daughter was always a Principal Honor student with letters from President Trump & Melania for her academics. Last year her GPA was 2.86. So am I going to send my daughter to the wolves in the jungle so she doesn’t learn anything, be stressed, pressured, frustrated, pretending to be a certain way bc otherwise “you’re weird” or “not popular” and on top of that I’m paying about $20k a year, excluding annual oversees trip)? No. Definitely not. This is the time to gather our little chicks very close to us and let the wolves devour themselves. That was at least $.50, ha! Glad you decided to keep them home.
Totally agree with you! It’s obvious we are living in the end times and satan is after our kids everywhere, even in Christian schools. You’re right it’s not the Christian schools themselves but the KIDS and all the stuff they are exposed to at home, on the internet, and friendships with public school kids! Mama’s this is DEFINITELY the time to gather our little chicks and keep them very close and safe. If we are not diligent with our littles safety, satan will get to them! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Did you gender reveal by accident?! I love your channel and your raw honesty. Your reviews in what helped our family narrow down our curriculum. My son has thrived so much in his pre-K year. He’s actually doing kindergarten work. I knew I always wanted to homeschool. I couldn’t wait to get started. I had my third baby this past November. So we have a newborn and it’s fun and challenging. I love that we’re all home together and it’s a sweet atmosphere.
Please pray for me to make the right decision, this is my 2nd year of homeschooling but I don't k ow if it's the right choice for next year. As I'm typing this I'm in tears because it's such a hard decision. I want to continue homeschooling but what if I'm doing more damage than good by keeping my son from interacting with other kids? My other option is private school but it's so expensive. I really don't want to send him back to public school. He was at public for prek and kinder when the pandemic started and I've kept him at home since than. Prayers please
Aww sweet sister…definitely will do! We all just want to do best by our kids. I have no advice, but definitely keep praying…and pray specifically. He’ll show you the right choice for your family ❤️ hugs to you ❤️
Nowadays schools not a good place to be and how kids would know that? If someone not sure they should send kids to school and no questions. That's why we homeschool, they can't make decisions like that, they are little, we are parents who know what is going on.
Like I said, we didn’t have that experience and I know many others who have had great experiences also, so I don’t want to generalize across the board. But yes, listen to our kids, but ultimately my husband and I make the final decision
I was homeschooled from Pre-K-12th grade and absolutely HATED IT the entire time. I begged to go to school the entire time and even wrote a persuasive essay. My mom never even gave it half a thought. I’ll forever resent her for that.
I'm sorry to hear you had that experience. I do hope that you will be able to heal from that and hopefully see any good from it (or maybe be able to see it from her perspective), as living and staying in resentment is never the healthiest way to live ❤
I've found kids at private schools can be worse sometimes than public schools.
Philippians 4:13 kjv
I never thought i would homeschool my child btw.
$16k holy cow!! 😳😳😳
So glad he came around and is enjoying high school…such wisdom to see that his peers aren’t a great influence.
He’ll show you ❤️
I did a little bit of everything growing up because we moved a few times and my parents had these same struggles (especially when homeschool was not that popular back in the 90s!).
This seems to be the best balance for us to have "class" and field trips and learning at home 😊
One child, one year at a time!
It certainly is!
That is a great decision. You will do an even better job.
Lauren you always offer so much encouragement... thanks for being vulnerable and sharing with us your journey ❤ God is definitely using you is so many ways... and love your heart ❤
Thank you Gina ❤️❤️
Thank you so much for your kind words! It’s truly appreciated ❤️
This is so important for their futures! I’m so glad you are taking time with them and noticing where they have gaps in understanding.
❤️❤️❤️
We went through something similar. My husband and I decided to meet the girls in the middle. They are homeschooled but take classes with homeschool friends 2 days a week (similar to a co op). It broke my heart that they were gone 2 days a week but it has been so wonderful especially for my youngest. She has totally come out of her shell and is more independent. Next year I will be teaching some classes there so I’m really excited for this new journey.
Sounds like a great compromise!
I guess it does seem that way…totally didn’t mean to 🫣 lol…but the decision was close, and back and forth for a while!
I thought that too. Totally thought you were sending them all to school. With all the examples you said.
Thank you so much for the video. I don’t know any homeschool moms so I have no one to talk to about this and no one understands how HARD it is to keep homeschooling or send them to school. I felt every word you said and I’m so grateful I’m not alone in this struggle.
Certainly not alone ❤️❤️
Thank you! I shared it in a video a little while back. But yes, we’re excited for another little girl 💜💗
It’s so hard when it all doesn’t align 😕❤️
I’ll be sharing science soon!
I get you... I struggle with those thoughts as well .. I loved your video.. you're speaking truth... .
Thank you so much for sharing from your heart!
Great video Lauren! I struggle every year with what decision is best for school.
I totally get that! And it’s great that you already have one at home so the transition might be easier too!
Thank you for sharing your heart on this! I hope it's a great year with your girls!!
Love ya mama, and let the unboxing start🥰 thank you for always sharing your heart . Thankful for you and all all your content you share. Many blessings and happy homeschooling
Aww thanks, Emily! Thanks for the support ❤️🥰
I feel this message in my soul. My daughter has been in a charter school since kinder but we are moving this summer and I don’t know if I should home school, transfer to her current charter company or a different charter. I am loving recommendations from other parents. Taking our daughters needs and desires into account.
❤️❤️❤️
Sorry, but you're the parent! Kids can't always make the wisest choices without life experience.
Lauren. My name is Lauren as well and I feel like the last 3 years of homeschooling for me have been word for word what you’ve just said. It helps me SO much to know I’m not the only one wrestling with the Lord on this decision. Thank you for sharing ❤️
Definitely not alone ❤️
i appreciate this video and your vulnerability so so much! I have just decided to homeschool my twins in kindergarten and it took many months as well to figure this out
Aww best wishes for next year 🥰
Hesitant homeschooler mom here- yes, educational decisions for my children weigh on my heart so heavily too.
Hugs to you ❤️
Keep these videos and show them if they start becoming resentful when they are older. This will make a big difference.
Aww that’s a great idea ❤️
I love how you said that you made this decision with much prayer and guidance from the Holy Spirit and that it came after many months. I feel that. 😭
Absolutely! Can’t just go by what I feel
It is in His hands and he’s got your little girl ❤️
@@thepracticalhomeschooler Thank you
I appreciate your honesty about not knowing about the future.
That makes total sense. How creepy!
Still don’t know what we’ll do…
I feel you on this ❤️
My goodness so relatable. 😅
Yay! Can't wait for the curriculum picks
- second generation homeschooling mom of three who may one day ask about going to school (we are 6 years in)
My daughter is a social butterfly so she would love school. I just have so much anxiety about it. I struggle with it.
Looking for tips too! Haha! So far all I have is that I’m already planning details for next year as much as I can so it makes it more streamlined
Such a great video! We plan to homeschool starting in grade 1, preK and K provides free therapies so as my kiddo has Autism and that’s critical for us. It feels selfish to take her out in grade 1 but I feel it is best for all of us.
That’s great she was able to get the therapy she needs. And you do have to do what’s best for everyone, doesn’t mean you still don’t want what’s best for her ❤️
Thank you for sharing. I feel like it is something we all struggle with.
I’m so glad you found peace in your decision!
Can’t believe a year has flown by…
You’re a wonderful mom!
So true! I guess I’m looking at it more long term than short term, but I totally know what you mean ❤️
It is wise to look at things long term, and evaluate a year at a time because life does have seasons! Enjoy this beautiful season of bonding together as a family! You won’t regret it!
@@thepracticalhomeschooler I get it!😉
Thank you so so much for this video.
Wanting to do best by them is definitely what makes is so much harder!
Haha didn’t mean to set it up that way! Just my rambled, jumbled thought process 🥴
It does! I really hadn’t thought of it exactly in those terms, but you’re so right. Thanks for pointing that out 🥰
Love this..this whole video is a much a needed conversation in this community.
Thanks, Brandi ❤️
Aww it doesn’t sound dramatic…it’s completely valid! It was hard at the beginning of the school year…i always felt like we were missing someone.
I do this because I want a few months to think o
It over.
I love Pam Barnhill! Will definitely check that one out for sure! Thank you for sharing ☺️
@@thepracticalhomeschooler you’re very welcome! Have a nice weekend. 💜
So encourage! Also, When you stay in the Will of God it is protection . On hard days you can go back and say God you told me to do this so help me!!! On those good days, it makes you just love and trust Him even more!
Haha yes! I’ve already been putting that little phrase to use 🙌 haha
Thank you! ☺️
i am going threw this right now i pulled my son out of public snhool and he is asking why did i do that why cant he go to real school and i feel a little heart broken because i feel like im taking somthing from him that he i guess loved but in my heart i feel homeschooling is best choice for my kids and he makes me think well maybe next year or maybe in high school we can talk about it and hes in first grade
I love this! Season of life is everything I homeschool and work full time I was against homeschooling and it was my husbands idea as well!! Lol we married right!! Thank the good lord for putting us in the right direction😊
☺️☺️☺️
I'm with you: these decisions are huge, and I cannot bring myself to take them lightly! I also agree kids get a vote, just not the controlling one 😉😂
So glad you have your answer, and that you have the next year figured out, so far! 😁
Yes ultimate choice is up to mom and dad but their thoughts and needs into consideration!
Hey! Can you show us what exactly you use for your yearly report for kindergarten or elementary years. I have a kindergartner so I’m just wondering what I would need if I wanted to send my kids to school what the school would need.
It varies depending on your state! You can check the HSLDA for your state to see what is required
It was all Abeka when I went there but they’ve switched over to mostly BJU and she loved it!
@@AHL2018 You are exactly right! 🙏🏻
Sorry you had that experience 🙁
Totally agree with you! It’s obvious we are living in the end times and satan is after our kids everywhere, even in Christian schools. You’re right it’s not the Christian schools themselves but the KIDS and all the stuff they are exposed to at home, on the internet, and friendships with public school kids! Mama’s this is DEFINITELY the time to gather our little chicks and keep them very close and safe. If we are not diligent with our littles safety, satan will get to them! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
It’s so tuff to make this decision
I would be glad to pray for you for next year if you would like!
🥹🥹 how kind! Wow, thank you…I’d be honored ❤️
@@thepracticalhomeschooler of course 😊
Did you gender reveal by accident?!
I love your channel and your raw honesty. Your reviews in what helped our family narrow down our curriculum. My son has thrived so much in his pre-K year. He’s actually doing kindergarten work.
I knew I always wanted to homeschool. I couldn’t wait to get started. I had my third baby this past November. So we have a newborn and it’s fun and challenging. I love that we’re all home together and it’s a sweet atmosphere.
Haha no I shared it in a previous video 😄
Congrats on your new little one ☺️
He’ll show you the right choice for your family ❤️ hugs to you ❤️
I feel you. ❤
