I loved your story about your mom. My mom was very supportive of my music too. When she died (I know this sounds crazy) I felt her spirit move into me and inspire me to be a better man, and I am, thanks to her. I'm a busker and I often play on the bridge where we spread her ashes. Blessings to all the wonderful mothers in this world.
Very touching! Yes I was very close to my mom and I think of her everyday. Thanks for noticing and caring g and mentioning her in your post. Your mom did make a better man
Really good video today, thanks Tim. I think people who are unable quit their addiction are self-medicating to distract or cover for trauma they are not acknowledging or don't know any other way to deal with. Especially childhood trauma from poor early attachment, not feeling loved by parents, abuse, etc. A healthy person would value a good gig as a musician and would not let substances get the better of them.
We got a last minute gig just hours before showtime. It was for a CBC show. Our lead guitarist was AWOL. We had several people out looking for him. Turns out he was in jail. His father with friends in high places bailed him out just in time for the gig. No time to even go home and change clothes. He played the gig in his jail gear. It was recorded for broadcast the next night. We didn't actually know about the CBC deal until 2 songs into the set when a cameraman stuck a tv camera in my face. Rock n' roll!
Cow Palace, San Francisco. Quadrophenia tour. Moonie took some animal tranquilizers thinking they were something else, nearly killed the girl he was with.
Oh boy. We must all have stories like this. Bullet stories: Our trumpet player from the States disappears for days. Turns out he was IN JAIL for stealing his mother's insulin and selling it for cocaine money! We found out from newspaper headlines. The bass player who took 5 hits of acid, a few big lines of coke plus hard liquor, and wow was he bonkers onstage, rough. He kept suddenly ducking down and running away from non-existent dragonflies trying to get him. "IT"S THE DRAGONFLIES MAN!". Then most common, boozers onstage, especially when you reach a point where your gigs give you an open bar. I have so many more... You're right; get high from the audience and when the band reaches those nights where you're hydroplaning effortlessly across a musical lake, like a 14' aluminum boat with a 9.9 Evinrude, gliding.
Sorry that happened to your band. Back in the day, the ultimate in denial printed on a t-shirt. "I don't have a drinking problem. I drink. I get drunk. I fall down. No problem."
Drug addicts and alcoholics are not fun people to be around, especially if you’re the sober one in the group and have to babysit them and make sure they don’t do anything stupid and get them home. I was usually the sober “designated driver” with my friends and I don’t miss those days at all.
I sure don't miss getting wasted. Do they make any drugs that give you more self control? I'm not talking about purple pills.(Not that there's anything wrong with that.)
C'mon you guy's must have had clues that the potential was there with this guy. You gave him another go after the first pass out incident. There's always signs things can go wrong. Is there not?

Thanks very much and I agree with you 100%
Neil has influenced me as the kind of person to be and he also inspired me to get into motorcycling too. Neil was one of the good guys.
Yes I agreed I loved Neil!

@fgoindarkg me neither and I don’t know about pills to keep self control in check, I think it’s just sobriety. 😎☝️
Happened to the who's drummer, what's his name. 🦉
I said his name in the video the one and only Keith moon 🌙
