It's amazing how he said that at the end he felt "turbulence". Because that is exactly what the call to prayer is supposed to do. Its quite literally commanding a person to stop everything and to come quickly for prayer. If you didn't know the words, the sound is enough to bring a sense of unsettling urgency, like you have to get up and do something now.
In my opinion..Islam means to surrender yourself, to admit that there is something more powerful than you, to curb your ego to a particular discipline. To embrace humanity, Brotherhood and friendship.
