I have worked with synthetic fibers extensively so I wanted to give some tips about things I have learned over the past 20 years. Synthetic hair is not like human hair in any way. It does not absorb water because it is not porous, it does not need to be conditioned after shampooing like human hair because there is no cuticle (more on that later), and its biggest issue is tangling due to friction from wear for which there is a simple solution. Make sure the hair is wrapped very snugly around any roller or rod you use to prevent it from crinkling up. Synthetic hair's natural state when created is a silky texture, but it responds immediately to heat and will take whatever shape you put it in. If it has nothing to mimick its shape from it will start to crinkle up on itself. When using the boiling method I always first submerge it into the boiled water, hold it there for 30 seconds, and then move it to very cold water and submerge it there for 30 seconds. This will immediately lock the shape in place. Blot dry the hair and then remove it from the rollers. It is much easier to remove wet synthetic hair from rollers because it will not frizz and is easier to separate. It is not necessary for the hair to dry the on the roller for the shape to take effect as it immediately is set in place once the hair is cooled. Then you can hang it up to dry loose and the hair will be completely dry in about 30 minutes as since it is plastic the water is not absorbed and will roll right off. In my experience, hot steam is actually the best and easiest way to curl synthetic hair because it does the job without completely wetting the hair. You can use a clothes steamer or a hooded steamer for this, or even a pot of boiling water. Direct the steam right onto the hair and make sure all parts of the hair are well heated up. You can even put the rollers with the hair into a heavy-duty plastic bag, or a pillow case in a plastic bag to concentrate the steam. Place the hair into the bag, direct the steam onto the hair and into the bag so it fills it up, and then close it and hold it closed to allow the steam to saturate the hair. Allow the hair to cool and remove from the rollers. To use a pot boil the water and hold the hair and rollers over the steam coming from the pot being careful not to burn yourself. This method will take longer but will still work well as long as each fiber gets saturated with steam. You can also use hot tools to curl synthetic hair but this is the most difficult method. Use a hot tool that can set an exact temperature as low-heat synthetic hairs curl at 260-270 degrees Fahrenheit. Flat ironing is the easiest as it will give you a silky straight texture. Curling wands and irons are challenging because once you heat up the hair with the iron it must be removed from the iron and remain in that shape until it cools completely or the shape will change. It's doable but it takes practice. After synthetic hair is dry it is best to spray it down with a mixture of either water and fabric softener or water and conditioner. This will help the synthetic fibers tangle less as they are worn. Fabric softener also slightly etches the fibers so they appear less shiny and more like human hair. Make sure when you spray that all the fibers are covered and then let the hair dry. You can re-spray anytime to refresh the curls and reduce frizz. Always re-spray after washing. Synthetic hairs like xpression hair are very durable, tangle less, come in so many colors, and are very affordable. Its a far better option to use than futura kanekalon hair which tangles and matts so badly after one wear.

Dante thank you so much for posting these details. I am interested to try them some time. Also, I hope you consider adding videos to your channel about curling synthetic hair and how to create different curl patterns. I think a lot of ppl would interested in your take as well.

@@therealrhiannamack Happy to help. I'm on a bit of a crusade to get people to switch from human hair to synthetic as much as possible. Although synthetic hair is a petroleum-based product, it does not come along with all of the human rights violations and exploitation that the human hair industry comes with, as well as the blatant lies about quality. I also think that its advantages outweigh the advantages of human hair. I will eventually have a channel but I don't know when 🙂

I love how you do so much with xpression hair and show everyone the way. Xpression hair is one of the best synthetic hairs to use. Apart from being durable and lightweight, it so closely resembles human hair, tangles the least of all kanekalon fibers, can easily be made to look like any natural pattern or texture, comes in every color imaginable, is extremely affordable, is cruelty-free, and available worldwide. You can style it with hot tools at 260-270 degrees farenheight or use steam or boiled water to change its appearance. I often blend it with regular braiding hair and then it looks even more like human hair. Always beautiful work 🙂
