@@desporto6559 yes and no. Currently Messi stands for like 50% of their goals in the league (this season) they are in financial trouble and most of their squad is during final years/past their prime. Yes, they have a few younger players, but if they'll continue doing business this way (buying old stars, just to get instant output to help Messi and in efect - benching younger players) or like Arthur transfers, then I don't see a bright future there. Aaaaaand Messi kind of is bigger than Barcelona. He is the one who dictates everything in the club, including some of the transfers and choice of coaches, because the board shits itself if they even start thinking about him handing in transfer request. Real has/had a problem, because it's hard to fill a hole after a player, that scores 50 fucking goals in a season - but they invested wisely in the past and those last years Ronaldo was mainly a finisher and a striker and did much less of the ball progression, while for Barcelona Messi is still scoring those ammounts of goals and does huge ammount of ball progression (basically any time Barcelona is in trouble, he drops deeper to create chances) - Barcelona during last years of Messi becomes more and more dependant on him, rather than trying to build a team that could stand on its own. I suspect a seriously spectacular fall on their face. That being said, they'll still propably be around the top in Spain, just because of their size, unless their board will keep making such stupid decisions (I can totally see Bartomeu in 2025 overpaying for like a Lukaku, just to bring in a big name right after Messi retires)
@Stinky edit well we are talking about post-Messi times - great players want to come to Barcelona, but board makes shitty decisions, they are in terrible financial shape and they constantly let go of a lot of their talents. La Masia? Who is the last player from La Masia, who has a starting 11 spot? Sergi Roberto at like 27? Yes, there is Fati, but he is just a talent still and hasn't played that much, there is still a very high chance, that he'll be another Munir/Halilovic/Bojan/Deulofeu. I agree, that they propably won't fall behind 4th place, but at the moment it doesn't look like Barcelona has a lot of planning done for post-Messi era and that might (and propably will) end up with a huge gap to catch up to Real. So imo their fall will be less about the position in the league and more like a complete lack of throphies for at least few years and the team itself will be far behind Madrid's. Still, that propably means top 4 finish at worst in La Liga - but hey - Madrid in attack is still dealing with the effect of Ronaldo's transfer a bit to this day - it's not easy when the dude scores 50 goals a season, to just replace his output - but Barca relies on Messi much more, than Real did on Ronaldo in the last few years and that's not such a great idea, when the guy we are talking about is like 33
@Stinky edit Bartomeu clearly tries to buy players to get as many trophies while Messi is still at the club - that's a shitty strategy that ruins the club and is a reason for this comparison. We'll see, but once Messi is out of that club I can see them missing knockout stages of CL a few times. Given that Messi is already responsible for over 50% of their goals (and that stat is rising each year, especially since Neymar left) a future without him seems really grim, especially when you add to it the fact, that they still need to look for Suarez's replacement. Also when it comes to Barca's mentality - back then the midfield was their strongest part of the team. Even as a Madrid fan I have to admit, that for a few years a midfield of Busquets-Xavi-Iniesta has dominated world football and now midfield is their weakest link, somehow still filled with old players. That mentality and style of play comes from keeping possession in the midfield and it's just impossible to play that style of playing without serious work being done there.
@Stinky edit well yes, but there are still midfielders out there who would be able to play this style of football and currently there is hardly anybody in that squad, who can push the ball past 40m from opponent's goal. Busquets does mostly the deep ball progression and what often ends up happening is that Messi drops deeper to get the ball - they've had Arthur, but he wasn't doing almost any defensive work and Frenkie De Jong will be imo closer to Busquets and controlling the build-up from really deep position. Nevertheless I agree, that Barcelona's fans will have to wait for a long time for as good midfielders as those two were, it is possible to find a replacement, but with the decisions they are making they won't sign them anytime soon (or sign a player, when he is already old and will need to be replaced soon)

Imagine thinking that swapping a 23 year old that’s developing for a 30 year old who’s on the decline is a good idea. It’s like dumping a super model for a grandma. Barca are in trouble.
I love how pato isn’t just doing the ad for cash and saying what they want him too, they actually know what their talking about and do enjoy the product
The Arthur deal is actually even more scummy than it looks. Essentially, the board needed to raise a certain amount of money to satisfy the budget they made at the beginning of the year, or else they’d be personally liable. This deal was only made so the board could save themselves money.
as i've said before, Maurizzio Sarri is the reason that Juve had interest in Arthur (and Barcelona's incompetence is why he left and was replaced with Pjanic). like Hamill said, Arthur wants to play deeper than on the left in a midfield 3, yet he isn't a very defensive player. Sarri's DM having high passing accuracy and volume is exactly what he wants to organize his buildup play. Juve will probably flank him with players like Bentancur and Matuidi and the ball progression will probably mostly come from the back line, Bentancur or someone like Dybala dropping. i think Juve will be marginally better next season with Arthur, but really removing Pjanic (dead weight) and adding a system player isn't bad for about 10 million after both deals. that being said, i genuinely feel that Bentancur could play the DM role and they could have gone out and bought a good midfielder like DVB off Ajax or something and been much better off.
the pjanic arthur swap may actually end up making a lot of sense for both teams in a 2-3 years imo, and here is why: they are quite the similar player which on paper makes it look bad for barca, but with puig coming through the ranks and looking really impressive there needs to be room for him aswell, which is a spot Arthur would be occupying. i believe barca will be aiming for a midfield consisting of De Jong - new CDM - Puig, or Pedri - De Jong- Puig. arthur wouldn't add anything to that midfield. Looking at juves situation they will basically be getting a younger version of Arthur, who still can develop to become better, win-win for both clubs.
Guendouzi is fantastic. He’s 21, he wears his heart on his sleeve. There’s not enough of that in this squad. Give Arteta time to mould him, he’s got the raw talent. Sometimes you’ve got to be calm and hope they calm down with time too.
But you can also look at it as swapping Pjanic and Arthur and Juventus giving €10 million to barca which is worth it since Arthur is 23 and obviously talented. Juventus getting the better end of the deal by far.
Tbh it could be the BEST transfer. Pjanic could play amazing in our squad and combine amazing with Busquets, Riqui Puig, DeJong, Messi etc. 30 isn't even old tbf. Players can play till 40 and I'm sure Pjanic could play top level till like 35. Eg Pirlo went to Juventus at 32 but became a legend and I'm sure Pjanic would fit in very well. He is Barca's best midfielder after Busquets and Riqui Puig. He would fight for the starting 11 with De Jong. But De Jong and Busquets could sometimes switch so I guess Pjanic would be a guaranteed starter. He WILL be amazing. Also he is miles ahead of Arthur. Creativity, vision, passion ability... I can't wait for him playing alongside Busquets, Riqui Puig and De Jong! 😍
TBF Hakimi has a clause the allows him to come back to madrid for the same price for 2 years and madrid have a choice if he wants to transfer and they get a cut so basically when carvajal is 30 we can get him so in my opinion its a good deal especially that we don't pay wages and he gets full play time. Good day!
People who complain about Hakimi’s defensive acumen, or somehow the lack thereof, forget who his new manager is going to be at Inter. Hakimi under Conte is going to be a problem!
A striking thing that most people miss about Pjanic coming to Barcelona is, he provides a very good creative option in this pretty unconvincing midfield. I know he adds quite an age factor to the squad. But I feel this squad is being build to facilitate Messi with a short term perspective. Messi has to win more, and given his age he won’t be able to drive the ball from deep midfield positions all the way to the goal. He’s definitely aging in his stamina.
As a long term juve fan, I agree with your analysis of the sporting considerations, for I am unsure what Arthur offers beyond what we already have. And yes, the club have been building him up as some mega coup, when it could turn out that its merely a piece of cunning accounting to make the profit margins look great on paper, but on the field, he ends up not proving potent enough to dislodge Rabiot, Matuidi or Bentancur. Juve hugely need a major signing at DM. Unless Bentancur is ear-marked to play there and maybe he should be, for the only thing missing from his game now is potency in the final third, which isnt to say his passing is poor, far from it, more a case of his best areas seem combative and central, not creative.
The valuation is just a way of both clubs showing a profit, the deal could easily have been 40 mil & 30 mil but doing what they have done helps both clubs make a profit, seems like they are just trying to get around ffp
Pat was spot on about Guendouzi, he’s exactly the sort of player people would say we need if we didn’t have him. He needs more time, loads of potential.
As soon who doesn't follow Spanish football much anymore, what is the underlining reason for this deal? Seems nonsensical to swap a 23 year old for a 30 year old to me and whenever I did see Arthur, he seemed pretty good! (though maybe I missed a decline/stagnation).

Still don’t really understand the Arthur and Pjanic swap deal. Not a good move for either. Arthur will end up joining the Juventus bench. Is Pjanic really going to start games with the midfield that Barca already have
Hey there, Pato. Just wanted to say as an Arabic native that the word "Achraf" is pronounced with a normal "sh" sound in Arabic (so like in the word mashup), not the way you say it :))
Look at how much trouble Real Madrid were in just before Zidane came back. They were getting slated left, right and centre and were nowhere near winning La Liga. Now look at them compared to Barcelona. One are on the up and one are dropping.
I’ve heard some talk that the reason Hakimi was sold to Inter was because Inter wanted Barca’s Semedo in a swap plus cash deal for Lautaro Martinez and Real basically didn’t want that to happen hahah...
I saw a report that said Messi wants to leave Barca and I dismissed it because why would he want to leave the club he spent his whole life at. Then I saw these 2 transfers and I understood. I’d want to leave as well if I was Messi as well. Maybe go to some Italian club and battle Ronaldo some more or go play with your friend Neymar in France for a few years for a big paycheck
That's Arthur for 10 million n I guess n lot will be saved on wages . Well done fartcelona , What a player he is , can't remember the game , but saw him in a champions league game , wow what a player he looked . Hopefully he'll become the player he's supposed to become , a world class midfielder
you guys focus too much on stats. You can see how arthur would fit in at Sarri's team. You need more technicality on the ball, just genuine technique, touch etc which arthur has a lot
I feel like Barcelona and Real's transfers have been beyond abysmal for at least 5-6 years now. Are there ANY teams with a worse transfer strategy? Pure clownery at this stage...
Xavi, Modrić, Pirlo...from 30-35 years old (best years with most trophies). Pjanić is 30 now with a similar stile of play. Played for Lyon, Roma and Juve. Arthur who???
You guys are great but I feel like you ignore the fact that players often play into their 30s, having old players isn’t necessarily bad. Although it can be
“It depends what we mean by his attitude”, what do you think he means Pat? This Maupay incident isn’t the first is it where he’s looked a bit petulant. The way you’ve deflected this question is literally identical to the Sunday vibes one about Arsenal 😂. I’m neither a Liverpool or Arsenal fan, but does it not confuse you when you constantly talk about the weaknesses of Liverpool players and see them top and on course for a record points total. Whilst also talking so highly of these Arsenal players that might not even finish top 8.
Worst transfer if you look at the players. But what I read is that it has to do with financially making it look better at Barcelona. If thats not true then 100% worst transfer by Barcelona.
Nice bag Real got from Inter for Hakimi....however watching him fly down the right wing for Real Madrid would be really fun. Alas, it was not meant to be.
Why does Matuidi play so much!? He’s reliable, experienced (like Busquets) and versatile (like Rakitic). Pjanic can be, he needs to rediscover his mojo. Arthur? Has ability, a reputation (from Gremio), has worn the Barca shirt...hopefully, he has a better environment to grow. Juve, I’m doubtful. Should have gone to Lazio ( a progressive team, where he’ll get quality time and be appreciated) & taken over from another Brazilian, L Leiva.
Barcelona is not going to win anything for 2-3 yrs as the player are ageing and board are not ready to sign good young players when barca played against A madrid there average Was 30.7 this was due to puig 20 Barca board are the worst, they don’t spend wisely they are wasting money . The player power is also increasing and i don’t think any coach is going to settle good
Whenever a player becomes bigger than a club, its time to ship him off. Its time to sell Messi while he is still worth something. Barca should sell the half of their current squad and replace it with promising youngsters. Considering COVID, its going to cost them substantially less to do that in next periods. Its make or break. Otherwise, Real and Atleti are going to outshine and outclass them.

Still don’t really understand the Arthur and Pjanic swap deal. Not a good move for either. Arthur will end up joining the Juventus bench. Is Pjanic really going to start games with the midfield that Barca already have
New drinking game: drink every time you hear ‘ touch on earlier ‘
Hey there, Pato. Just wanted to say as an Arabic native that the word "Achraf" is pronounced with a normal "sh" sound in Arabic (so like in the word mashup), not the way you say it :))
"Conjure some testosterone that I clearly don't have."
"...you little hoarder." For a brief moment, I thought this pod was taking a sharp left.
Jesus that’s even worse than spending €97 million on Harry Maguire
This is becoming my favourite vid of the week
Better make sure you sub to that new pod channel when it drops then!
[Hamill]
Look at how much trouble Real Madrid were in just before Zidane came back. They were getting slated left, right and centre and were nowhere near winning La Liga. Now look at them compared to Barcelona. One are on the up and one are dropping.
A week to paint your front door, how big is your door?
loool
Tho arthur pjanic swap is not the best, Barca are still going to have a seasoned player adding more creativity in their mid.
My response to a mathematical question the complexities of FFP and the financial troubles of Barça: 20:29
Is that a "JAWS" board game or something on Pat's shelf??
Jaws has been in the same position on Pat's shelf during the whole of lockdown
Don't worry Barca, my team, Real Madrid, gonna try to out do you by selling Hakimi ...
Best football show and podcast
thanks buddy!
[Hamill]
That's Arthur for 10 million n I guess n lot will be saved on wages .
Well done fartcelona ,
What a player he is , can't remember the game , but saw him in a champions league game , wow what a player he looked .
Hopefully he'll become the player he's supposed to become , a world class midfielder
you guys focus too much on stats. You can see how arthur would fit in at Sarri's team. You need more technicality on the ball, just genuine technique, touch etc which arthur has a lot
You guys should watch out for a copyright lawsuit cause here in Belgium the tvshow that covers football is also called extra time just saying
Balancing the books after spending over 100 million on Griezmann, Dembele and Coutinho. Sacrificing ArtooooooOOOOOr as a result. YIkes.
No surprise with the little love in for Guendouzi.
You guys are great but I feel like you ignore the fact that players often play into their 30s, having old players isn’t necessarily bad. Although it can be
Is Patrick thick he's literally a Paul Merson
“It depends what we mean by his attitude”, what do you think he means Pat? This Maupay incident isn’t the first is it where he’s looked a bit petulant. The way you’ve deflected this question is literally identical to the Sunday vibes one about Arsenal 😂. I’m neither a Liverpool or Arsenal fan, but does it not confuse you when you constantly talk about the weaknesses of Liverpool players and see them top and on course for a record points total. Whilst also talking so highly of these Arsenal players that might not even finish top 8.
Maybe its becoz for less time since pjanic will retire n barca again can sign a new deal ? ...who else think like this
I won’t lie, Hamil and PVS is the dream combo
Lovely stuff boys ❤️❤️✌️
Ty matey
[Hamill]
Its only a bad transfer becasue they are losing arthur. Getting in pjanic is great though because he is amazing. Shame bout the arthur thing
My beard started out as laziness and I wasn't really keen but to be honest it really grew on me
Why don't any of you talk about Trinicao?
BECAUSE I DONT'T KNOW WHO HE IS!
[Hamill]
Worst transfer if you look at the players. But what I read is that it has to do with financially making it look better at Barcelona. If thats not true then 100% worst transfer by Barcelona.
Nice bag Real got from Inter for Hakimi....however watching him fly down the right wing for Real Madrid would be really fun. Alas, it was not meant to be.
What are “tinned tomatoes”... ohhhh! Canned tomatoes 🍅
Barcelona wanted bedtner from arsenal but he said no because he didn't want to outshine Messi
Watching this in a post 8-2 world and you hear Pato say, “I think Barca are in serious trouble” ... just hire him now Barca he will help us!!!
Perfect way to start the day
You lads couldn’t upload these at a better time for me cheers!
Barcelona is not going to win anything for 2-3 yrs as the player are ageing and board are not ready to sign good young players when barca played against A madrid there average Was 30.7 this was due to puig 20 Barca board are the worst, they don’t spend wisely they are wasting money . The player power is also increasing and i don’t think any coach is going to settle good
Only thing barca is happy with is puig playing his numbers against atm was great
Barcelona are sacrificing the future for the short term by making deals that don't even help them in the short term
Puyol or Xavi need to become Manager of Barca soon
Respect to Hamill for saving the turtles❤️❤️❤️❤️
Whenever a player becomes bigger than a club, its time to ship him off. Its time to sell Messi while he is still worth something. Barca should sell the half of their current squad and replace it with promising youngsters. Considering COVID, its going to cost them substantially less to do that in next periods. Its make or break. Otherwise, Real and Atleti are going to outshine and outclass them.
