I wondered why this one would fall temptation to the relative nickels and dimes of payoffs from that "industry." But then I looked him up, and he was only making the league minimum this season. Which means the payments from that industry were more than just nickels and dimes to him.

The refs should also be investigated for gambling since they're make way more questionable decisions than Jontay while at the same time actively effecting the outcome of games way more effectively than anything Jontay could've done. Scott Foster is the biggest example of this.

well its cause the players/coaches/etc are not allowed to gamble because you can fix games. like if you place bets on you lose or get x amount of points or whatever. by banning players/coaches/etc you can eliminate some of the potential for rigged games.
Rules are rules regardless of if ppl think it’s fair or not. You know the rules and there are consequences to breaking them.
I only agree with the lifetime ban because he bet on his team to lose and he bet on games he played in. Throwing in any professional sport should always be a lifetime ban.
You know what is baffling here? It's that there are multiple examples of pro athletes who have partaken in sports betting, and some had to pay enormous fines, suspensions, and bannings. Ask Pete Rose, Calvin Riddley, Demetrius Taylor, and so many others how sports betting affected their lives. Hell, Pete Rose has been banned from entering the Baseball Hall of Fame, and Demetrius Taylor has been a free agent since last year.
