  • I was looking for a way to stay organized while on the trail and camping. I made these cargo drawers with a unique feature where it can be converted into a sleeping platform.
    Thanks for watching!

    This is the best video on youtube for building a sleeping platform regardless of your SUV model. Tips everywhere from a pro carpenter. Thank you, this is gonna help a ton when I do this in a few weeks for my 2020 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk!

    By far the best variant of this I’ve seen. Nothing overengineered, and doesn’t look out of my realm of capability. Any chance you recall how many pieces of wood you used for this, or tips to minimize wasted wood? I’m gonna take a shot at it, would love to price it out and get all the wood in one go.

      I think used about 1and an half 4’x8’ sheet of 3/4 plywood. You definitely save wood and weight by only use 1 full piece on the Jeeps floor with strips of 3/4” plywood to raise the floor piece up. Possibly even skip the floor piece all together and bring the vertical plywood down to the floor of the jeep. That might be strong enough. Otherwise this setup works pretty well for me.

    I know it’s been a minute or two but you wouldn’t have plans or a cut list for this would you! It’s an awesome build, just the video I’ve been looking for!!

      I'll put a cut list up on my website. its not on there now but will be in the future. I'll let you know when I post the cut list.

    How was it sleeping with a pad or an air mattress back there? Did you have enough room to move around and be comfortable?

    • @TheOffRoadCorner
      @TheOffRoadCorner  3 роки тому

      I'm able to sleep comfortably with this setup. I have enough room to roll over or sleep on my side. the pad I have is 72" by 25" wide and 1.5" thick which works to smooth out the step down between the top and the work surface.
      here a link to the pad I use.

    How'd you get your front seats to fold forward? This would give me (at 6'1) an extra few inches of sleeping platform, but my seats don't fold forward. Did you mod them? Do a seat swap? And nice job, by the way!

    • @azclimber100
      @azclimber100 4 роки тому +1

      Ahhhh, I just saw that you have the 2-door version. That's why they fold forward. Back to the drawing board.

      If you can find a 2 door the seat brackets are the same as the 4 door XJs.

    Could you write down the dimensions if you get a chance

    • @TheOffRoadCorner
      @TheOffRoadCorner  5 років тому

      ok this might be as clear as mud but i'll do my best.
      so the top piece of plywood is 30.75" x 42"
      the bottom piece of plywood is 34.75" x 42" x 1.25" thick (2 pieces of plywood sandwiched together)
      the vertical pieces are 8.5" tall
      and the drawer boxes measure 18.75" x 25.25" x 7"
      these are all outside dimensions

      @@tscharnerfennell5087 no problem. Thanks for watching. one other thing that i'd recommend would be space the drawers up about 1/4" or more from the bottom. My drawers are rubbing the bottom now that i have the drawers are loaded up.
