    I just want to contribute some very valuable information about this issue. I had the same problem, where the "walk-in" function was not working (i.e., seat not sliding forward using the walk-in lever to allow egress to the third row seat). After watching this excellent video I assumed my cable had broken too, but when I disassembled it I discovered that my cable was fine. It was then that I noticed the "cable adjuster" on one of the two cables coming out of the splitter. It is a little black plastic piece on the end of the cable with notches in it. I simply tightened it a few turns with my fingers (turn it clockwise, to the right) and wala! the seat was sliding again. What happens is over time the cables stretch causing the walk-in function to stop working, but the good folks at Honda must have foreseen this and provided the cable adjuster for that very reason. Time to repair (once the plastic cover is removed): 10 seconds. Cost to repair: zero. You do not even need to remove the seat from the vehicle.
    Many thanks to piercedasian for providing this great video. I could not figure out how to remove the handle with the hidden metal clip before I found his video.
    Hope this is helpful.

    I found out after many years of owning a couple of Honda's and Acura's that they don't use Philips headed screws. They use JIS screws. The screw driver is slightly different. Great video. I needed to find out how to get the plastic cover off the seat.

    • @piercedasian
      @piercedasian  2 роки тому

      Yes the DO in fact use JIS screws but fortunately a Phillips #2 is close enough to get the majority of the screws out without issues.

    Great tutorial! This has happened on my 2014 Odyssey and it's the 2nd row seat behind the drivers seat. I hope it's the same and it will be getting fixed to gain this needed functionality soon.

      glad you liked this video! I really should setup a patreon page for my viewers as you're not the first person to say that. I just PayPal for donations lol. I'm just super happy you were able to fix your seat. Paying the dummies at the dealership to fix this would likely be super expensive and it likely wouldn't even be fixed properly.

    Great video !!! I had the exact problem that you described, I bought the cable (for about $36(since I had a 25%off coupon at Commonwealth Honda in Lawrence MA). Opened the seat as instructed. The cable on the seat looked intact - The eye was connected and the cable appeared to have some tension - I tried to tightened the level at which it attaches under the seat (looks like there are 3 slots). But that made no difference. So I did go ahead and replace the cable - Was easy enough to remove the peg with a flat head screw driver slowly from all sides and hooked the new cable under the seat. It WORKS GREAT NOW.... Thanks

    • @piercedasian
      @piercedasian  10 років тому

      glad it worked out for you - Good job! Yes that cable doesn't necessarily always have to break at the eyelet, it can actually break at the "Y" connection point too or just jam up inside that split and that would cause your seat to not allow the "walk in" assembly to work right.

    tHIS was excellent!!! I am trying to figure out how to adjust the middle seat so it will recline completely back flat so that we can use it as a bed when we go camping. I have looked everywhere and no one has done it. Would LOVE to see if you could figure out a way to do that, there are a lot of van dwellers that are looking for the same thing! You are a wonderful teacher!!!

  • @michaelmusa67

    Thank you so much for putting this up. Just installed the walk-in cable myself after watching your video. The eyelet actually attaches to a similar peg behind that visible peg shown. Not sure why that was there to begin with but I actually had to open the cover on the other side to follow proper cable routing. Cost of the cable, a dealer part with tax is a little over $50. Not bad considering Honda service will most likely charge an arm and a leg to get this done. Not to mention the inconvenience of dropping your vehicle off and being without it for a day or two depending how busy their repair center could be. Took me a little over an hour in total because of figuring out where the eyelet goes and a little trouble with one of the bottom pull cable coming off. If I had to do this all over again it'll probably be a 20 minute job, lol! Again, Thanks so much for this very informative video. U Da Man! =)

    • @piercedasian
      @piercedasian  10 років тому

      Hi michaelmusa67. $50 for the cable? Is your local Honda dealer charging retail + 30%? Strange. The cable if I remembered correctly was about $20-30. Yes the peg that the cable end attaches to isn't shown very well at all in my video. My apologies! I may have to "republish" my video here to clearly show the spot where the cable end in the seat hinge area attach to. Either way I'm glad you were able to fix your seat properly. Yes the dealership guys are crazy in what they wanted to charge to fix a supposed cable b/c the leather HAD to come off.... what a bunch of BS.

    • @michaelmusa67
      @michaelmusa67 10 років тому

      piercedasian Yes, seems like dealers here NYC are definitely charging more for everything. Another dealer was charging $61.95 + tax, what a crook! Dealerships have that reputation of always ripping their customers off their hard earned dollars. Anyways, don't think you have to republish the video, if you can do a follow up video showing the walk-in cable routing , it''ll be of great help to others. . Regardless you did a great job on the tutorial and saved a lot of us $$$ and aggravation. Thanks again! Seat functions as good as new. =)

    @ Marcelo Delima - the seat latch mechanism has likely failed. If you look at an exploded parts diagram you'll can identify which part might be interconnected to to the position bar. I just can't recall if it's a single seat rail assembly or if there are in fact cables.
    Look at the exploded diagram at Majestic Honda's website - google it and you'll find their comprehensive parts diagrams.

      Good luck! It's fairly easy to replace and I have absolute confidence that you can do it.

  • @piercedasian
    @piercedasian  9 років тому

    @ Sandra McGuire - If it is just the handle I don't believe it is overly difficult to replace. Since you need to buy a replacement handle anyways you may as well get the new part and examine it to see how it mounts and fit together. That will surely help you understand how it's installed.

  • @piercedasian
    @piercedasian  11 років тому

    @ DeeDZMom - The cable that likely has broken is the upper cable assembly in the 2nd row seat. Do you feel any tension on the lever that you'd normally "lift" to raise the seat? If not then that is a pretty obvious tell tale sign that something has become detached. You can check the mechanism very much the same way as I show in my video by popping off that side cover and looking at the cables and how they tie into that big mechanical assembly where the seat back pivots on. If the cable is broken it should be fairly obvious and if worse came to worse you could l "force actuate" the seat hinge assembly to at least get the seat back up.

    Hi Flyernut, are you sure you followed exactly how I removed the side panel and recline handle? The side bolster cover is only held on with a few screws. If you give me the specific year of van I can reference my diagrams to see if I can offer up better specifics. Which mechanism doesn't work? I'm assuming it's the one that allows you to remove the seat from the van down by the floor latch correct? More details and I'll try my best to assist.

  • @piercedasian
    @piercedasian  11 років тому

    mamed, the solution should be quite easy to troubleshoot. When you lift the seat positioning bar up can you move the seat back and forth? If yes then your next problem is likely the seat cable that goes to the top latch. Those can occasionally break and not pull up properly on the twin cable that you just replaced. If you can elaborate here then the knowledge can be shared with everyone.

    • @piercedasian
      @piercedasian  10 років тому

      Cindy once you've dismantled the seat you should be able to see the "peg" on the seat back hinge assembly where the cable eyelet end is supposed to attach to. I am a bit disappointed in myself that I didn't do a close up shot of the newly installed cable. My bad sorry. But once you've removed the covers from the side of the seat you should be able to see how the seat back hinge works and the peg that would move with the setback that would "pull" on the cable. Look carefully and you should be able to see it,

    Hello there! Thanks for this video. I have a 2007 Odyssey van with a similar problem. The seat is stuck in the folded position and will not raise back in it's upright position. I looked at the diagrams for the seats and there appears to be multiple cables. I was wondering if you could shed some light on which cable you think I would need. The seat I am referring to is the 2nd Row Passenger seat. I don't want to purchase the wrong cable. Thanks in advance.

    • @johnthur10
      @johnthur10 10 років тому

      Same problem. was able to pull on cable to get to go upright again. The connection where the cable attaches is broke. I think the cable is part of the seat back. ($385) might be a safety consideration. Just a plastic piece that broke. I not sure if I can find a replacement just for that.

    • @piercedasian
      @piercedasian  10 років тому

      @ DeeDzMom - hmm that is a difficult one. I'd recommend that you at the very least remove the seat from the van and take off the recline handle and seat side cover to see if you can determine which cable is broken. I can't say which cable is likely bad b/c there are 2 main cables - one in the seat back and another in the lower seat mechanism. There are other connector cables but those generally don't break. Pull the side handle and cover off as demonstrated in my video and look first.

    • @piercedasian
      @piercedasian  10 років тому

      take the side panel apart in the exact manner as in the video. From there you can manually "actuate" the rounded seat back hinge by hand (wearing a glove) to return the seat to the proper upright position and then hopefully you'll see what is broken. 9 out of 10 times it's broken cable as the seat hinge rarely (if ever) fails.

  • @Mshanhld
    @Mshanhld 10 років тому +1

    My Odyssey 2008 can fold and unfold. However, it can not walk īn and I saw the button near the headrest is loosen not worked properly. Is it also walk in cable problem?

    • @piercedasian
      @piercedasian  10 років тому

      Hi Tanny, The latch that you lift "UP" to recline the seat forward is related to the walk in mechanism. What the upper handle by the headrest does is enable you to unlock the seat back to tilt forward. When the seat tilts forward a hinge near the base of the seat back (as shown in my video) has a a small pivot peg where when tipped forward will pull another cable hidden under the seat pan that will "unlock" the slide mechanism from the floor rails. In other words, the problem you have is likely identical to the problem I was showing how to fix in my video. Dismantle your seat as shown in my video and you likely will see the broken cable.

    • @piercedasian

      Are you sure the locking latches/pins are not "jammed". Sometimes when a cable is "stuck" or hooked onto a part of the seat that it's constantly in the "Pull" position which prevents the latch from properly latching on the rails Lay the say on it's back and take a close look at the latching mechanism in the rails.

      Ah yes the pesky forward retract handle. It's held in with a single phillips screwdriver and then you can "pop" the handle assembly out. I cannot recall if the seat back of the Odyssey seat could be unzipped. Take a close look and see if you can unzip the setback to see the clips retaining the cables to the seat frame.

    • @piercedasian
      @piercedasian  9 років тому

      Honda_Odyssey_2008 If the 2nd row seat is folded down and you can't get it to go vertically then chances are the recline cable or heaven forbid the recline assembly is broken. I rarely fold my 2nd seat down but I'm assuming that the lever you use to bring it back up is the one on the side of the seat cushion. Unfortunately I haven't taken that portion of the seat apart so I can't specifically outline what is wrong with yours. Sorry I couldn't be of any useful help.

    Fully understand this video has some age on it. However, I have a 2007 Odyssey van with somewhat a similar issue. The problem I am having is that the seat will not lock in place. The seat keeps sliding back and forth. I have removed the seat from the vehicle and checked each cable but see none that are broken. No I haven’t removed the rear seat cover as yet mainly because I don’t see how the problem with the seat not locking has any reference to whatever cable(s) are concealed behind the rear seat cover.

    • @piercedasian

      +abie chong sorry Abie, I haven't done the upper cable before however, I can say that there is a hidden zipper for the seatback that can be "unzipped" to remove the seat leather or fabric. If you carefully locate it on the bottom of the seat you should be able to unzip and pull the cover off exposing the insides of the seat back.

      ah okay, look carefully at the side cover clips. Do any of them look bent out of shape or are "hook" style that need to be engaged at a certain angle? I don't recall the side cover being difficult at all. it is held on with screws if memory serves me correctly.

      @@piercedasian mine is a 2008 Oddysey without the middle cup holder. Yes they are held by screws in the middle but in the front there are clips and hooks. I tried to align the hooks but the clips will not clip on. It happens with both the seats and nothing is broken.

    I am so sorry, I see in the video at 11:14 that it seems to angle down, is that where the peg is/should be? I just must be missing something! I think that you DO show it.

      I remember what I did... when I was editing my video I actually deleted the footage of me actually re-hooking the eyelet piece.
      1. Look at where the cable assembly end would clip onto the seat frame (mine in the video was just dangling because I didn't show it fully installed).
      2. Look directly above the cable clip on the seat frame.
      3. You'll notice a locking washer called a push nut covering a peg and you'll should be able to tell that the behind the push nut that there is a gap that the cable eyelet would normally reside. There is a gap b/c the old eyelet broke.
      4. Use a pair of pliers and remove that pesky push nut, you may need to buy a new one but I carefully pried mine off and was able to hammer it back flat and re-use it.
      5. install the eyelet onto the now exposed peg.
      6. Test seat assembly to make sure it works after you've hooked up the cable.
      7. If it works properly then reinstall the push nut.
      8. Reassemble the seat panel parts
      My sincerest apologies for omitting the portion of the cable install. I feel kind of silly that I missed a crucial step.
      Hope it works out for you.

      piercedasian Thanks so much!! I just went out and looked at it.
      I think that I am understanding correctly now.
      In the video at 11:25 there is a peg looking piece/thing at about the 10 o'clock position on the round seat assembly which I think may be the attachment point that you are describing.??
      I cannot thank you enough for all of your help, the piece hanging down really threw me but I knew it didn't go there! ;-))

      Cindy Czupryn You're close but not quite... the 10 o'clock position peg that is on the round hinge assembly is actually not the right one. The proper peg is just slightly behind and to the side of that peg that is on the rounded hinge plate. The easiest way to find the peg is to clip the cable assembly into the cable holder on the seat frame, and orient the cable straight up. The cable eyelet will pretty much align perfectly with where that peg is supposed to be. Another way of looking at it is Imagine a straight line from the cable clip that points upwards - that give you some clues as where it should connect to.
      If you look at 6:24 on my video you see the yellow painted "DOT" on the rounded seat hinge. Slightly above that is a peg with a push nut at the 10 o'clock position. that is NOT the peg you use. Look to the left of the yellow dot and you should see the proper peg somewhat tucked in behind that rounded seat hinge. The seat I'm working on is the passenger side seat so if you're doing the driver's side seat then reverse your view - you get the point...
      If you also look at how I run my fingers up the cable assembly at 11:58 you can also see how the cable points "up" giving you another sign of where the general area the eyelet will hook onto.
      Additional background info:
      The peg that you'll hook onto moves with the seat back. So when you tilt the seat forward the peg leans in the same directly of the seat and then that essentially pulls "up" on the cable and releases the holding pins that normally keep the seat base from sliding on the rails. If the seat back is upright you should be able to install that eyelet onto the peg without having to pull up on the cable. If you have to pull on the cable to install it then you likely have the wrong peg.
      Hope that clarifies some things.

    my cable is fine. what broke for me is the black plastic clip that holds the cable in place. it holds the cable shell and allows the cable to push and pull. Does anyone know that part number. thank you

      Yikes! That sucks.
      I think the part # you're looking for is:
      Right motor assembly: 72010-SHJ-A21
      Left motor assembly:72050-SHJ-A21
      Take a look at the diagram:
