  • This Linck equipped sawmill is unique in that it has a profiler close-coupled to the single chipper-canter. The profiling is performed on the second pass through the canter. Sideboards from the first pass through the canter are sent to an optimized edger supplied by EWD (a Linck company) The quick saw-minute change at the double arbor gang is common to all Linck gang saws.

    Why do they only profile on the second pass?

    • @billcraig

      Linck has always preferred to have a flat face on the bottom to work against the forces of the profiling action. In the first pass, the bottom of the log is still rounded. I can envision that if there is a protrusion on the bottom of the log, the log will rock from the forces of the first canter chipping the vertical faces on each side. Those faces would not be affected by such an occurrence, but trying to profile and have that happen sounds like trouble. I hope this helps.
      If I were operating the mill, I would do some tests to see if, and under what conditions, profiling on the first pass caused any problems.

    Linck mills work really well with plantation logs . They don't work worth a dime on trees cut on side hills . Logs MUST be straight. W.W.W. had a 108 inch chipper to take care of the crooked logs , a crying shame , an ordinary small wood mill could have made lumber out of the logs the Linck mill was chipping . I was kinda happy when that mill shut down

      Die Dorne drehen sich in die gleiche Richtung. Die obere Säge schneidet gegen den Holzfluss und die untere Laube schneidet mit dem Holzfluss.

      Alles klar. Wo ich arbeite ich muss beide sagen gegen holzfluss einstelen.

    Could somebody please explain to me what is the purpose of those things at 1:43??

    • @billcraig
      @billcraig  2 роки тому

      This section from about 1:40 to1:43 is a top-down view of the multi-function infeed to the canter. The log is being turned to the proper orientation for maximum recovery as determined by the Linck optimization software working with the data of the 3-D scanner which has determined the true shape of the log. See this video for an animation of the process ua-cam.com/video/Gs5sgWg8HI8/v-deo.html

    Warum müssen immer alle interessanten Abläufe und Geräusche durch unerträgliche Musik zunichte gemacht werden ... schade ... deswegen trägt der Kerl bei 8.00 auch einen Gehörschutz bei stehender Maschine ... er ahnt schon das fürchterliche Gedudel vom Video ..
