If it wasn’t for Billy MacKenzie, I would never have met my beautiful wife....She was a friend of his and I met her when she just arrived in Glasgow On 11th March 1985 at the Pavilion Theatre...I had just started my lunch break and it was the first beautiful sunny day of the year. I decided to go out for wee look in Flip in Queen Street and when she asked me directions to the theatre, I said I would take her there as it wasn’t far....we got to know each other and kept in touch..and the rest, as they say is history...Not only was this extremely talented musician with integrity, sweetness and intelligence with a voice that can’t be matched, responsible for meeting the love of my life, he has provided the world with a richness and uniqueness that won’t ever be paralleled..., One story my wife told me was when he fell out with his record company...or dropped (?)...He asked if at least, could they pay for a taxi home...Living in London at this time, they thought it was no problem and the least they could do.....Billy took the taxi home......to his family home in Dundee, hahaha....well done Billy!!!….…You are badly missed. The world needed your glorious talent and it was such a shame you couldn’t speak to someone first before time stopped and deep mourning started..My wife said that when Billy died...a big chunk of her soul died too...RIP William MacKenzie...You are sorely missed. as a footnote....Why, with this obsession with the 80,s , do we only hear shite like Duran Duran, Wham, etc...? …Maybe it’s because you have to dig deep to find the diamond..xxx
I actually sang background vocals for Billy 5 days before he killed himself. It haunts me to this day. But I still have his "grandchild " Whippet. And my puppy 🐶 & future puppies will always be named Breakfast. I will forever be furious with him. I will forever love him.
Clearly One of the greatest singing talents ever to grace the planet, he never got his true recognition at the time, anybody that loves music and vocalists will know that he was one of the greatest of all time.
When this guys sang Party Fears Two he just poured out of my old TV and landed in my front room... He hasn't left since......different, original, blinding...use anything you want...QUALITY springs to mind.
Hearing this for the first time and I'm knocked out. Sublime vocals, great band and arrangement. I shouldn't have expected anything less from hearing Party Fears Two and Club Country alone.
Rankin was never good enough to host someone like Billy he needed a Vince Clarke or a Nick Rhodes I think then he would have gone mainstream and been happier and still been here
Listening and watching in 2018 this is a welcome reminder of Billy’s beautiful voice. Compared to his previous, youthful vibe he’s slightly understated in his mature performance. The contrast of almost classical piano lines set against a chic, guitar rhythm and strong beat leave plenty of space for those wonderful pipes to blow. Missed, but as ever, an inspiration to be yourself.
i was in his company for a moment in wellington tower a multi in dundee now knocked down , he came in to visit his cousin , sang a song about the police called uniform blues then disappeared ,all before he was famous
Thank you so much for the lovely comments, it means so very much. I'm trying to put up the Big Day. But UA-cam didn't process it. Will try again. Blair

Hi there it should be all about the music , not people making detrimental comments about other peoples comments, there is enough crap in this world without leaving nasty elements and arguments here, Just Listen and enjoy,if you do not like it, do not watch, you are missing a late great talent
Dear Billy ... I spent the 80s in love with that man. I know exactly the day he died because it was exactly same the day I arrived in England with the wish to find out where he had disappeared to: 22 January 1997. What a kick in the heart that was. Miss you so much!
The Associates were big in the 80s which i remember well..Billy had a fabulous voice. it all became too much for him after his mum passed away...so he took his own life! R I P Billy!
So many nights watching and listening to this, and "Wild and Lonely" from the same show. Just wonderful. It's a privilege to have you in my life, Billy. x
It would've been a way better album if they'd recorded the songs in this kind of setting. I love Mackenzie and own every last bit of his work but I remember wincing a little at the corporate digital sheen of the production when Wild and Lonely came out.
Rip Billy...such a shame he's no longer with us ..such an amazing talent and lovely person.. depression is such an all consuming thing...you just never know and it's what I have and what took my son aged 26...
Thanks Billy!! R.I.P. can't belive it's almost a year since the tribute in Glasgow. Thanks Blair( you beutifull woman you,and superb vocalist) for sharing these vids, With friends like you Billy will NEVER be forgotten :) Thanks for
Beautiful song - lyric and vocals beyond compare. Rest in peace sweet Billy..love you always. Nam myoho Renge Kyo - love is eternal. And so it is. Much appreciation for posting this.
Why is that voice so evocative!? This guy has always just murdered me. It’s one of the great cultural losses of late twentieth century pop music he and Alan Rankin couldn’t continue together
What an incredible range Billy had, going up and down hitting notes few others would even try, how far would he have risen in the ranks of major artistes if he hadn’t died, 😥😥😥😥😥😥
This is wonderful song from Billy. I can't stop playing the videos for this and "Wild and Lonely". I love the atmospheric, jazzy feel to the songs. Either song could/should have been the theme song to a James Bond movie. As for the opening remarks shown at the beginning, they were pretty rough. Everytime I hear these remarks, I just want to tell the TV host (whomever she is) to open her mouth and insert her foot.
what a wonderful performance. I always loved this album in its entirety. I know in his bio the author kind of panned it, but I still find it good. I feel sad to think that Billy had such talent and he still was not happy
@caltontongs73 This was late 1990 on The Late Show on BBC2. Billy's version of "Wild Is The Wind" was four years later and screened on Janice Forsyth's wee STV arts show Dont Look Down in the autumn of 1994. I taped both on Nicam.
@soundmanhaven1 Hi, Billy took his own life in 1997. :'-( If you wish to find out more about this wonderful man, you could do worse than check the Wiki entry about him - it gives a brief bio and links to several relevant websites, discog, etc.

After being blown away by the early Associates upto and including Sulk i remember being disappointed with Wild and lonely but all these years on these tracks seem to work well live.
wow this is a great song, never heard it before. I also have never heard of the mutt doing the intro at the beginning, nor ever want to.. Nice one billy

After all this years, still one of my favorite singers. Still makes me sad he left us way to soon.

Amen to that brother.
Love coming back to this performance, he was a special man 👍
Incredible singer, haunting voice you never forget. Hope he found peace.
Your beautiful voice so touched our hearts. We miss you Billy.
I passed Billy at Heathrow in the 80s& blew him a kiss. He actually started walking toward me but I got flustered and ran away.

What a voice, can see why Rankin was desperate to get him on board back in the 70s. RIP Billy, Dundee's finest 🙏

Sooo brilliant 👍🇬🇧

Still can't believe he's no longer in this world. Love you Billy. x

Irony = Robbie Williams getting a £billion record deal and this guy dying penilless. What a talent. RIP.
loungeleezard he didn’t die penniless
Yes maybe so but Billy was sure of his talent whereas Robbie has to live with the knowledge that he is a fraud.
