I mean yeah...30 bux if you have a mitre saw, table router pocket jigs and all that other good stuff.....but if you dont..... 😉
If you don't, takes fuck loads more. Soo thanks m8 yeah nice one we will do it.
As an amateur with woodworker, i typically feel overpowered with the entire arrangement ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxrYREG3-7f1Aqk9ams3ZESRNzGnfdUtyQ . Be that as it may, this arrangements drove me through with much clarity and effortlessness woodplans. Works i now work like a genius. That is great!
Hello, I just ripped 2 by 4s down with a table saw. Then, cut them to different lengths on the miter saw.
Nice video! I’ve been shopping around for a screen and everywhere I go they want $300+ I would rather build it myself cheap for same results as expensive store bought ones. Thanks!
$30 projector screen and $10,000 worth of tools...
🤣
The same thing could be done with a circular saw and a manual staple gun and a hammer.
@@DarinBeard Interesting I live in an apartment according to my wife circular saw’s don’t go with the Decour.... still not $30 champ...
@@teddysurf the supplies are $30. You know that's what he means. You could do it with a hand saw. Use your imaginaton, champ.
... use your imagination… He’s giving a tutorial...a pocket hole jig, the cheapest ones are $30...if you use L brackets that’s at least 15 bucks just for the brackets... and good luck using a handsaw to cut straight edges it’ll look like “s” and fit together like “s” Smart guy... then you have to buy the staple gun, screws, wood and canvas and border paint... this is not a $30 project... and on top of that you’re doing yourself a disservice because the Joann fabric he used isn’t made to reflect projector light... The light reflected back at you will not be as good as even a $50 projector screen. Do yourself a favor if you’re thinking of doing this go buy the projector paint tape off your wall and just paint the reflective paint and if you want you can do a black border as well.
Excellent project Chad!! I absolutely love it!
Thanks Kristin...I am glad you liked it!!
Wow bro just found ur channel love what ur doing with it and really like ur shop n I see we got the same delta bandsaw that thing is heavy as hell but they don't make them like that anymore I think mine is from 1954 but runs like a champ paid 75 for it off Craigslist I would of paid triple that but couldn't pass it up
Glad you like my channel! I think my band saw is a 1948. I got it from one of my buddy's dad and I paid $50 for it. Best buy of my life! I put a new blade on it and it runs great. Carrying down to my basement in two parts was one of the heaviest things I have every moved myself!
Thank you for a great video !! How is the quality of the image projected on this fabric compared to the fixed frame projector screens being sold on Amazon?
Hello, the DIY screen I thought worked great, I never did compare it to an Amazon one.
I paid $11 at Joanne's fabric. Great idea
You can't beat $11 for the fabric! Good luck with the build!
Is it better to have black screen?
Great job!! Thanks for sharing!!
This only cost $30. All of the power tools were free..... I just LOVE these DIY videos........
Most DIYers already have tools.... catch up
Your into para-cord stuff but you don't have a few basic mantools? ... your doing it wrong.
Thank you.
The best black or white color for 4k ???
I just bought something like this on eBay for $25. When I buy a machine shop, I'll consider building stuff.
I Just got one its white ive orderd a Lcd projeter is white bad can i straying pant it to be black
ammzing realy exellent screen
good luck man
Thanks!!
Had a quick question about the measurements. In the video you said you were cutting boards to 89 and 52. But in three comments I saw 89 and 45 which ones should I use? I'm building a 100 inch screen as well.
Hi Steve!, Sorry for the confusion. I believe you would cut the smaller boards at 45 inches. These 3 boards go in between the 89 inch boards. The 1 by 4 boards are actually 3 1/2 inches wide so you add 45 inches plus two 3 and a half inch boards and that gives you the 52 inches that I refer to in the video. Hope that makes sense!
legit, dude. looks fuun.
Thanks Chris...you can never have too big of a screen!
You made a awesome video for 2019 cool
For me it looks better without the black corners.
I used it for about a week without the black boarder and it worked just fine. I guess it is just whatever you like.
What projector do you have? Picture looks great.
here is my Amazon Link! amzn.to/2hKuiqV
what kind of cloth was that u used for the screen?
Mate, well done. Thanks
Thanks Dave!
good job how did you make the cabinet under the screen
Hi Andrew! I made the cabinet out of 3/4 oak plywood and then used real oak wood strips on the front edge. I actually recessed it into the wall when I was framing my basement so that is how it just "floats" like that and is strong enough to hold all my equipment.
Nice video. Sub'd. I'm looking to build a screen for outside that will roll up for easy storage.
Thanks for the Sub!...and good luck on your build!!
Awesome!!!
What kind of fabric is that Where did you buy it from?
Hello, it was called blackout cloth and I bought it from Joanne Fabric
What kind of material was purchased for the screen?
It is blackout cloth from Joannes fabric.
No roundover on the outer edge of the black matte frame??? Imagine how the edges and corners would’ve looked from the front 🤔
Yeah...that is a good idea!
Nice job!
Hey, if I get wood at home depot, can I have them cut it? I have a drill and what not, but no wood working tools at home.
Hello Zickey, I am pretty sure they will cut it for you. If they don't, you could by a cheap hand saw and make the cuts yourself. The pine boards I use would be easy to cut by hand.
Chad DIY alright cool!
@@chaddiy3512 hey one other question, how did you figure out the size accounting for the black bars?
The size is totally dependent on the type of projector you have and how far away it it from the wall. Every projector has it own "throw" formula. Good luck!
exactly how many people have all those fancy machines to do a screen..screen idea is good..but most of us will be doing it manually.
Get your measurements and Home Depot will cut them for you for free when you buy the wood.
Lazy?
What material did you use for screen?
It is called Blackout cloth
oh, nevermind, jus found your list of stuff you used ,
Genius 👍
Thanks Mad Brawler!
And you can still eat from the $5.00 menu at McDonalds! LOL
Y'all forget that you can easily do this with a hand saw and a normal hammer. You don't have to buy the expensive tools as long as you're patient.
All great points...thanks for the comment!
cool. thanks
No problem P G!
are dark scenes really dark?
The dark scenes seemed fine to me, but I haven't used this setup for many years now.
What Material screen you used? Cloth...? Paper?? What???
Hi Rick, I used a cloth material to build this screen.
30 bucks and semi master carpenter
Ha, first time I've been called even a semi master...thanks for that!
what type of fabric did you get?
I think it was called blackout fabric
where did the screen come from and how much was it???
The screen material was $12 from JoAnnes Fabric.
Hey Chad so what kind of projector you used
Here is the affiliate link, amzn.to/2hKuiqV It has worked great for me so far!
Can I pay you to make me one 😂😂😂
Yeah $30 if you are a carpenter and have all that equipment
Gotta factor in the cost of shoes to walk around the store in. Jeeze, this stuff gets expensive.
you can cut the wood with a hand saw or ask home depot or lowe's to cut it for you, you do not need to route the edges just put scrap felt over so you do not damage the cloth when you stretch it you can pick up a manual stapler or use tacs, you seriously do not need all the tools. I do not have a kreg jig nor would i use them id do half laps joints and glue those can also be done with a handsaw.
you can ease the edges with a sanding block too but i'd use felt cloth
Lol yeah RIGHT?! Let me go grab my $500 table router oh & Kreg tool kit for another $200 MINIMUM I forgot I bought 😅
You don't need the equipment though. Definitely need some tools but this is the cost of the screen....not starting a handyman shop.
what kind of projector do u have
Hello Zach! I have a Acer H5380BD 720p. Here is the affiliate link-amzn.to/2iI1nB0
It has been a great projector for me, and it is pretty reasonable at $400.
thank u
$30 plus almost $1,200 in hardware tools!
can you make for me =)
What a bunch of odd comments about his tools... Obviously the guy already had tools and does woodworking of sorts. What's the big deal? You don't need a band saw. And as someone who does woodworking, anyone with any sense of having the ability to reason, can do this with very low end tools. Borrow a friend's chop saw. Round the edges with just a sander. You don't need the expensive kreg pocket hole jig. Just take a minute and figure it out instead of dumping on the guy for having tools to show how he did this. So many entitled people...
yes he has cheaper tools then me. but i refuse to do pocket holes.
Dude this is one of the worst tutorial videos I have ever seen exactly for those reasons you don't like. Making a tutorial for a simple things with complicated professional tools is the dumbest thing ever. Why are you angry about the comments? Can't you see there are so many because they are right lol.
So many low IQ people (it's scary), not entitled. See ^, this guy needs tutorial to connect few planks.
@@melanieenmats It's a simple project, just use the tools you have and adapt. Be creative.
all you really need is a drill to be honest. You can figure out all of your dimensions before you even buy the wood, and then have it all cut for you at home depot, lowes etc.
I built one for less with a sheet of insulation foam core from Lowes or Home Depot, covered with a plastic picnic table cover from the Dollar Store.
Can you show a pic of that scrren
This is awesome! I believe Lowes or even Home Depot can cut The Wood Planks to size if requested I'd like to try this
I think you are right Damien! Most of the big box stores will cut them for you!!
Sweet write up. I am curious how this material compares to other materials that marketed projector screens use. I wonder if there is resolution loss with this setup?
top tip: use a sheet of 3mm plywood for the screen front, it will strengthen everything and ensure a perfect flat screen when you fit the cloth. top tip number 2: buy a dark grey roller blind thats made to measure, top tip number 3, build a black screen, you wont need black trim around the edges and the contrast will be massively improved.
just went to home depot and spent less than $10 on the lumber, hanging canvas kit was $4 and 12$ on the fabric at joanns boom im ready to get screwing lol
Sounds like you are all set! Good luck on the build lauren bowman!
What type of Black out fabric did you use?
do you have pictures/ video of how the screen looks with the projector on it?
what kind of fabric did you get? thanks
You talked me into making my own. I love every steps you took.
Thanks for the video....
haha do it yourself under 30 bucks... and the cost of buying those machines lol
Or just use some metal brackets like he said, and skip the routing. If you're careful enough when pulling the cloth over the frame, it shouldn't matter.
or pay a home depot or something to cut it for u
i used paste for making the screen on my wall 10 dollar, its allready white when dried up so no paint needed... you see i can make a series of that also, how~to make a screen for under 10 bucks lol
Tim The Enchanter share
i'd love too, and i will someday so just subscribe allready
People complaining about tools, most real DIYers already have tools... catch up...
Also the power tools are 100% optional. You can accomplish this project with a hand saw and sandpaper. Or have Home Depot cut the wood to length. SMH
That and tools are an investment. You will use them again and again. If not.... please hand over your man card.
People are lazy and just want to complain instead of getting off there ASS and doing something.
The only problem with this is the staples, the material will almost certainly stretch over time leaving ripples in the surface which are really distracting. This is why commercial screens use springs to hold the material taut, as it stretches, the springs take up the slack. Otherwise this looks great.
Is it better to have a super mega painting canvas Instead?
Ummmm this is more than $30, it does not include the price of the heavy duty woodworking tools.
this is very helpful and looks nice & clean cut
Thanks...Glad I could help!!
You're cool.
Ha...Thanks!
I love you use glue..... this makes is to much stronger. Thanks.
Now I need to sell my apartment, buy a house with workshop and all those machines.
hahahahahahahahaha
Same
All you need is a regular staple gun and you can buy your wood precut at Home Depot or Lowe's. I'm going to use metal brackets to hold mine together instead of the wood glue. And just use dark rope to hang it from the ceiling.
same
You mean power tools?
Thanks for this. I had to build 100 inch screen too and that is way i do it and i use lycra fabric that cost about 10€/1m or about 10$/40inch in us standards. So the cost is under 50$ for sure.
That sounds like it would be a good screen at a good price!
Uhhhhh I use my wife's white sheets as a screen,. And then she gets mad 😀😁😂
You just project the image onto her big ass?
"$30" + the $1000+ in tools
white wall: am I a joke to you?
Y would you dislike this?!? Wtf is wrong w/people!
Hi Nick...people hate on everything now...never understood why.
In India we have something called Dhoti, a type of ethnic clothing, costs less than 10 dollars. Deal with it.!! 😜
I like your teamster union shirt!
⛔Never White⛔. Try some variations of Grey for way better contrast. At least TRY it before committing to white.
What is your show vac set up for your Greg jig? Would love to see your set up.
$30 screen but how much do you need to spend for that nice equipment? cant afford that
you should start the video with "$1000+ equipment not included"
@@benjiebarker the router is entirely optional. You could do the same with a simple hand sander to remove the sharp edges. Pocket jigs are fairly cheap as well. If you dont have any sort of tools you probably shouldn't be looking at DIY projects.
Amazing Work - keep IT going my Friend :) greetings
Done this myself and initial results were great but I’ve noticed over time the screen material begins to stretch and form wrinkles. Did anyone else experience this or have a fix?
Sorry to hear you are having problems with the screen. I no longer live at this house so can't say how the screen has held up that I built.
Bought my wood, about to dive in until I saw this comment. I was already thinking about using a different material but any suggestions which one is the best?
I guess I'll be building my own projector screen now. Thanks man...
ya if u have all that equipment's & talent why not
I have a proper fixed screen and there is a black material under the white screen which you don’t have.
It only cost $30 (while using thousands in equipment).
Ah, a classic... "This thing cost just 30$!", and then a cut to a shed with tools worth >10k$ in it. But besides that - cool video, thanks :)
Yeah, I do have some tools. My channel is geared towards DIY's so I assume most will have atleast some of these tools to build it. But you could probably build this with a hand saw, kreg jig, stapler, and a drill. It doesn't really need to be complicated.
How to build a screen for 30 dollars (* with tools worth hundreds of dollars)
Yeah but you need all those tools. Screw that. I need solutions!!!! 😂
What is the cloth you used from Joanne's ? Do they call it BLACK OUT also?
Hello Food for Men! It should be called Blackout Cloth. Joanne's will have it on a big roll.
I'm annoyed at the fact that I have nothing to build it with😩 I don't own tools
Dude Amazon has a 115 inch screen for 25 bucks
19 bucks now
Link?
I'll give you 30 bucks. Just make 100 for me.
What is blackout cloth? Interesting, but not DIY. :-)
30$ if you are carpenter, otherwise it will cost 300$.
Another idea to slove this stable thing U can stable ring on wall and rolling balck clothes to it . after finsh films u can packed away
Thanks for the comment, that is a good idea!
and you have $99999 tools && $999999 of experience :(
Always click on these then see a big ass machine lmao IM OUT, just gonna spend the 60 on one..
Eh, not only that but he's lying about the lumber cost. Those select 1x3 pine boards from Menard's aren't $3.75/ea like he leads on. I think after the fact he went on the website to look at prices maybe, because they're $3.75/ea for the 4' planks. There's no way he only needed two 4' planks unless he made like a 35" screen with it. He spent between $20-$30 on the wood for the border alone. Which is also about what it costs for a roll of felt tape, which is what most people use when making one of these screens. I just don't like DIYers that fake how cheap stuff is by lying about the cost. They should be up front and honest. It's not as cheap as this guy leads on.
@@TheTruthSpeaksTruth I do agree he does have the incorrect price for 8' select pine 1x3s, but they are still only $6/ea. And in the video he rips them in half with his bandsaw. So he used nearly the entire length of one full board to create the width of the frame, plus only 1/2 of another 8' board (or he used 1 of the 4' 1x3s for $3.45 ripped in half) for the verticals.
So $10-11 for the wood in the border, which is more than the $7.50 he stated. But without the bandsaw, you would be up to $18 for the frame, which still only takes it up to $40 total for everything which is still a pretty screaming deal.
But knowing me and how my projects normally go, I'll have to redo either the frame or I'll rip the fabric or both... so I'll just figure it will cost me about $70 and take me 5 total hours, that way I can hopefully prove to my wife that my projects don't always cost more than expected and they don't always take 2-3 more hours than I guessed :)
Still coming through in 2020..Awesome video, Thank you!
Its not $30 anymore that's for sure 2021 wood prices! lol
Me encantó, trataré de hacerlo, super idea.. 😁😁😍😍
hai,, may i know how does the screen works in daylight? have you try it.. is it clear during daylight

this is very professional... not diy... hahahahaw
neat and clean work.
It is DIY if you are not lazy and willing to try. 🤯
Awesome video might be a little more money now days but still good on budget
Thanks! Yeah...Would cost more today, but still should be able to do it pretty cheap!
bro. what is best colour to use for wall projector & what type of material you recommend
Stupid question alert. When you say 1 by 4 and 1 by 3...what does that mean? Guessing it thickness? And length is 89inches as you said on video. Is that correct? Great job by the way.
Not stupid at all! 1 by 4 is actually a board that is 3/4 inch by 3 1/2 inches. 1 by 3 is 3/4 by 2 1/2 inches...It can be confusing. Yep, I believe 89 inches is right! Good luck on the build!
@@chaddiy3512 thanks Chad. For the cloth, could you use nails if you don't have a nail gun?
Would a black cloth make a better image quality or do you really need white?
Hello, I think white or gray work the best, but I am not an expert on it.
im having trouble finding this- Blackout cloth- $12 (JoAnnes Fabric with coupon) setting up 100 inch screen. thanks
Hi Steven, I think you can find printable coupons online. The fabric looks to be around $25 for 3 yards without the coupon.
im having trouble finding the actual web site thanks
