For 22 years I worked at the BBC in Glasgow as an Announcer-Director (we spoke and did all the vision and sound mixing for playout. Just one person at a time!). Often I had to get into the News Channel very late at night and whenever I possibly could I would pad with trails so that I was able to run the 'Theme' for 2 minutes and then opt smoothly into the top of the hour live. I often looked forward to that bit all night!!!
It's kind of an apples and oranges thing: David Lowe's BBC theme is tech-driven with orchestrals, and John Williams' NBC theme is a strictly orchestral theme. Both are excellent.
It’s weird, because even though the BBC is in such a state currently, this makes you feel proud to have the BBC. But beyond that, it makes you feel proud to be British
In UA-cam translator he translated it as, Buenas Tardes, yo soy Eric Lord, yo soy la BBC de Londres, in english, Good Afternoon, Im Eric Lord, I am the BBC London XD
I remember the first time I heard this, I went from "this is the BBC" to "this is a nightclub in England, that just happens to be in perfect precision"
Orchestra version does help a lot , with that grand and amazing entry of the tune. This mix is more to make it even dramatic , looks cinematic , more tense from the initial version of the BBC theme.
You mostly hear the softer orcestral version at the beginning of this upload on more sombre events, most famously for royal deaths, but I'd bet that other particularly tragic and/or shocking happenings may elicit its use as well.
Super soothing. Amazing compilation. Thanks to you and the master, David Lowe, who so artistically created this classic theme, embedding blips and big drums. Could play it on loop for days!
I listened to this melody of BBC before my doctoral thesis defense and was deeply inspired, awesome feeling, now I’m a PhD who still find this a masterpiece 🎉❤😊 🎉❤
I swear musicians and composers put so much effort into theme music in general and for what?? Literally just come into the studio one day, drop the track and peace tf out like they didn't just gift the masses some of the most epic bangers in the history of music. And it's all either for the six o'clock news or a kid's show. 💀💀 Like, SIRR???
The BBC has always been a top-notch news source for me. Its Arabic and English language radio channels were instrumental in my learning and growth, providing in-depth, reliable news and diverse perspectives. The opening theme always takes me back, reminding me of the famous line: "It's 12:00 GMT here in London. This is BBC World Service. The headlines."
Wonderful. This theme is so... poignant, especially now in Ukraine and Middle East. First, you feel anxious and anxiety, then frustration and despair, finally a ray of hope that things will get better. Thank you BBC for all these years, you have our gratitude.
This theme is amazing! In Slovakia we also have some nice news themes, but unfortunatedly there are no "clean" version posted anywhere. I hope one day someone will get them.
23:58 Finding me conducting and dancing on a hot summer night on the terrace overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in Lanzarote, Bose headphones cranked up full and this masterpiece in my ears.... Man, this is heaven....
I'm in hospital awaiting surgery about to enter hour 19 of waiting on my third day here. This soundtrack is calming and a great backing track for all the comings and goings of patients and staff.
The extended theme and similar themes past and present could be played as part of an emergency broadcast system message as intermission period between news updates in the event of a major nuclear incident across the UK during war.
For those that are interested (and not yet heard it), there is a brilliant mashup made by Ben Howell (The originator of the BBC News theme mixes):- 'Dua Lipa BBC News Remix By Ben H' 👍 😎🇬🇧
Absolutely adore David Lowe official music and the remixes, but yes Ben Howell did a great job with Dua Lipa considering he RECONSTRUCTED the BBC Music entirely out of free Mac software Garageband during lockdown.
Simply materpieces! I've nearly always tried to watch the main BBC news intro video with the music - simply a materpiece of production/editing! Often don't bother with the news itself - not a patch on it! And most of the sounds are from the BBC orchestra, yes, in a large studio. It's just what the BBC does best! Would love to watch a video recording of these performances! Appreciate that quite a bit of post-editing has gone on, though.
This is the only recording I could find of the official orchestra perfomance for the theme (that isn't part of a medley compilation): ua-cam.com/video/llBi71jziUk/v-deo.html
As a Canadian who listens to CBC Radio and that twittery, silly piece of music called 'Cavalcade' that is played before every news break. To the newsreader who can't pronouce a French name if his life depended on it - THIS is a full on furious heavy cavalry charge that spears and slays and hacks and tramples all before it! Not some little 'cavalcade'. This is not some chirpy little Ottawa-approved tune. This is majesty and power.
This is hands down the best theme music in the national television news industry. The only other music package that even comes close is that of the ABC in Australia.
"Hi David, we'd like you to compose the top-of-the-hour music for the news channel." "OK." "It doesn't need to be anything much, just a beat with a hint of the pips in it." "OK." "Maybe try to make it sound a bit serious and dramatic if you can, it is the news after all." "OK." **some time later** "OK it's done." "HOLY FRICK."

wow
Can I meet you sir ? Greethings from Turkey
Lots of people appreciated your efforts, sir!
Awesum. Listening to ur bit on BBC brings fond memories of my late husband too in the media as a Chief Editor in India.
I’m American but this is hands down the best news theme ever. Blows ours to complete shame.
Speaking as an American myself, I have to ask, what news theme?
@@blairbrown4812 all of ours pretty much lol
Anything anyone ever does is better than an American can do lol. That bar is low.
CBS might come close, but I don’t know of any major outlet that has had roughly the same theme.
It's kind of an apples and oranges thing: David Lowe's BBC theme is tech-driven with orchestrals, and John Williams' NBC theme is a strictly orchestral theme. Both are excellent.
Amazing how this general theme has gone on in some form or another for over 20 years. Shows how good it really is.
If you get a chance, you should listen to the radio interview of the guy that created it. Very interesting
This theme blows away anything CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, or CNN produce in America
It really captures the seriousness of news. But touches on the emotional aspect too. The ticking of time too. It's really really creative
@@LankyScottyso true
I have never thought that one day i will love a News music theme ❤😂
Life is full of surprises...
Currently Playing this for my 2 year old as she sleeps! Makes me proud to be British! 🇬🇧
It’s weird, because even though the BBC is in such a state currently, this makes you feel proud to have the BBC. But beyond that, it makes you feel proud to be British
Lol...😂
Lol can relate to the feeling. Same thing with the SABC here in South Africa.
So true
I agree
Don't let the likes of Liz Truss destroy or sell off your BBC. Protect it at all costs.
Love,
Australia
You’ve got to admit it, it’s a banging tune
This alone is worth paying the BBC licence fee.
😂😂 facts
true lol
This makes me want to pay the BBC fee. As I'm not british nor do I live on the British Isles, that's saying something.
The ONLY thing worth paying the license for XD
Fact! This theme has pretty much stayed the same for 23 years! Now that's saying something!....
Divine.... transcend you across the globe....the finest creation of music by humanity
Good tune brings tears to my eyes. Sometimes I feel overcome.
Pure class from Sir David Lowe
During the 1st lockdown my main exercise was getting up to have a little dance to this at the top of every hour 😅
That is good
Ur so real for that
If I close my eyes, I can imagine a live edition with Mr Bean, playing that one note, looking at his watch!
awesome music when u re working. I like most of the BBC remixes, but this one takes the cake. Will never get tired of listening this.
It definitely conveys a sense of meaning...
This mix itself deserves a grammy! I hope u get the recognition u deserve! 🙏🏽
I'm currently working on an electrical project. This theme keeps me buzzing awake, alive and, amongst all else, so focused. I love the beats.
I would watch bbc news every morning in Joburg before work. This music is forever on my mind. 🎉
"Good afternoon, Im Eric Lord, this is the BBC London"
In UA-cam translator he translated it as, Buenas Tardes, yo soy Eric Lord, yo soy la BBC de Londres, in english, Good Afternoon, Im Eric Lord, I am the BBC London XD
BBC news be hittin' em beats before announcing 2 kids found dead in a car accident
the news reporter: *dance during this anthem*..
director: and 3-2-1 we are live
the news reporter *stops dancing* "9 people died in an accident today"

And still, strangely better than that intro ITV did.
" *Beat drops* Good Evening Paedophiles..."
Guess this is the music we hear just before being told to take shelter immediately.....

BBC should never stop using this song. Ever.
Yep! Specially for the TV license we have to pay, I think we have a say!
I listened to this melody of BBC before my doctoral thesis defense and was deeply inspired, awesome feeling, now I’m a PhD who still find this a masterpiece 🎉❤😊 🎉❤
I like how the beginning sounds similar to a movie's sad epic song. Thanks for the upload! :)
its what the BBC made live when the queen's coffin was being moved
When the main villain finally gets to put his plan into action after hiding in plain sight for millennia
I get chills every time I hear it!
Amazing!!!
Simply a BBC's masterpiece!!!
This is the first time that I'm listening to the long version. It's excellent, definitely. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
No matter when, every time I listen to the different versions, love them all.
Hands down one of the best news themes I've ever heard. And it's also as iconic as both NBC Nightly News and Star Awards.
It should have been entered into the charts
This is my go-to music whenever I feel like studying or learning. Such a bop creation!
David Lowe's BBC News theme is excellent. Only John Williams' NBC theme, also used by Australia's Channel 7, is in the same class.
And this towers above them all. I say this as the NBC theme is magnificent.
I would definitely listen to this dramatic track as the world is coming to an end.
Likely the best piece of music written in the past century. A masterpiece indeed. David Lowe!
did I really just listen to 10 minutes of news theme, and ENJOY it THOROUGHLY? Smooth mixing, particularly at 3:20
If you didn't notice, all of these version are played at 120bpm, so every second is 2 beats.
Right. Otherwise, the countdown music and beeps would be offbeat.
Heading to bed listening to this masterpiece is like being in another world !!! Wowow ! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤🙏🏻🇬🇧🏴🥰🙏🏻❤️
