I’m so glad you shared your experience with that fountain pen because I’ve been almost ready to buy one but keep hesitating because of the possible problems that I might have dealing with the ink, cleaning etc. I think now I’m sticking with regular pens. But anyway a beautiful subject and interesting facts about the clock tower. As always very enjoyable to watch! Thank you Nia!

Welcome! I used to have a calligraphy pen when I was little with multiple nibs, and they didn't dry up, so it might be because I'm storing this one wrong 😅 a lot of people gave me tips though, I'll try them out. But yes, normal art liners are easier. I still want to give the fountain pen a go though, because I like the different line weights it can create :D:D

I am no expert, but when I have used a fountain pen, I have to clean the tip a lot. The ink dries but also maybe the paper bits get in there?? I definitely have to draw slower with the fountain pen but that is good for us to slow down a little sometimes.

NIA!!!! You know that I can never go back to greeting you like: Nia!!! right? It’s not possible at this point. Hahaha! 😉
Anyway, about your fountain pen, what brand is it, how long have you had it, and how do you store it? All very important things to consider when using fountain pens.
Obviously, the more well known the brand is, the better the quality, but also the higher the price tag amount. With cheap pens you can run into a lot of problems, especially with the nib itself. I’m going to do my best to try to explain this, but if something isn’t making sense, definitely look up the parts of a fountain pen.
The nib is the tip the pen uses to write, and if you examine the tines carefully, you want to make sure that both ends are perfectly aligned, straight, and there aren’t any chips in the metal.
There should be a tiny hole, on the top of the nib, that has a very thin slit leading to the end of the tines. That tiny hole is known as the breather hole, and it stores ink, and allows the ink to run down the slit and evenly distributes the ink, creating a very smooth line and easy writing. There may be something wrong with your nib, so give it a good once over inspection and make sure it’s not defective in any way.
Second, how long have you had your pen? Sometimes, if a pen sits forever, and it’s been used once in a blue moon, it could be dried ink that has left buildup in your nib. Take warm water and give it a VERY QUICK dip in a small cup of water or rubbing alcohol, which may be better known as isopropyl alcohol, outside of the States, to help dissolve any dried up ink.
Or, if you have recently gotten the pen, and the ink is brand new, and the tines look good, it could be a matter of getting to understand how your pen writes- kind of like a breaking in period. Just keep writing with it, and 90% of the problems will work themselves out.
Finally, how do you store your pen? A LOT of people insist on storing your pen face down, so the lid is facing down… to me, that’s just asking for problems with dried out ink and a number of other problems. Maybe it’s because of the a specific type of environment? I live in the desert so I can’t speak to any regions where the humidity is high.
For me, laying it flat, horizontally hasn’t let me down yet. Or, if I have to store it standing up, I usually face the nib up. Again, I haven’t had problems with ink flow from storing my pens in either positions.
I will say, if it’s been a while that I haven’t used my cheap pens, the ink can be a bit sticky, and it takes it some testing on a scrap piece of paper, to get it flowing again, but the problems of uneven ink flow should not be consistent.
So, if you haven’t yet, definitely take a good look at your nib, and make sure there isn’t anything wrong with the metal, especially the tines.
Let me know if you have other questions, but there are a billion videos on “proper care” for your pens. Just as a warning, some people share their opinions like it’s absolute FACT. Yeah, no. They’re just that, opinions.
Definitely do what works best for you!💖💖

Oh my that's so descriptive! Thank you so much for spending time to write this!
Mine is fairly new, I've only used it once before but it was a couple of months ago, I guess, and I store it with the lid up because I don't want the ink to collect xD at least that's what I imagine happening.
The nib is still fine, since it's fairly new... I think it's dried ink. The ink came with the pen, so it's probably nothing fancy... A lot of people suggested to dip the nib in water or clean it with wet tissue, so I might give that a go first. I don't use the pen often so it makes sense if it's going to dry..
I'll give it a go again at some point and see! That's so cool that you're so knowledgable about it, I'll definitely ask you in the future haha! Thank you again! Have a great weekend, Amy!!!

I would damp a kleenex (quite damp/wet) and keep wiping the nib with the damp/wet kleenex until the ink flows again. Always work for me. The other way (quicker) is just to take a cup of water (cold please), and dip your nib quickly in there, and then you can wipe the nib. But i found with the 2nd way, i sometimes lose too much ink, so i prefer the 1st method. I never failed with this trick. Hope ot works.

Can you please do a watercolor traditional ASIAN architecture? Such as pagodas, gazebos, palaces, castles, shops, temples? Middle Eastern, Central Asian, East Asian and South Asian (such as Vietnamese, Cambodian, Thai, Indonesian) Almost nobody I have seen makes these!

    • @Nianiani

Oof those sound very complex, when I do buildings they're usually simple structures, and I'm not sure if I have the audience for that subject matter since I mostly do cutesy whimsical themes and not so much complex architectural subjects.
I will be painting something with an oriental theme for the Lunar New Year though, so... Hope it's close enough to something that you were looking for :))

@Nianiani there are also some simpler styles of Asian architecture like Asian houses that are not too difficult to paint or draw. The main differences between generic and Asian styles are the building materials, foundations, windows, doors and roofs. It also depends on the angle you capture it. I believe you are imagining an octagonal structure with many ornaments on it.
