Living on the streets anywhere- especially New York -anytime ,especially as a teenager -it’s got to be one of the most traumatizing things.
Along with whatever else happens in life sometimes people pick up habits to help cope.He lost one of his best friends in Andy Warhol,And overdosed shortly after.
He lost his life and we lost a beautiful artist on this planet, unfortunately. It is what it is. RIP

This is an example of a 1 in a million basquiats that exist out there.
He was the lucky choice to be glorified and legendized. I personally
Think he was a disturbance to those whites in the art world he plunged
Himself into. That was his only genius..his charm and intelligence was the
Genius attribute not the art but the words in it.he was exploited and a
Experiment to see his fall threw cash and drugs for his art. That junkie part of him was not genius..I love Basquiat also but, there were millions like himself..

Well said mate! Just nowadays I came to this same conslusion...I really like many of his paintings with excellent color hoices, the vibrant painting effects with tagged lines... he inspires me a lot in a sense to remain creative. It's always sad to think how everything ended for him, a depression is not a joke, even rich guys can suffer from it, damn. But, if you think, now he's in Heaven and having fun with Andy, Picasso, Dali and countless other artists...Thanks Jean-Michel for your endless inspiration and everything!
