Organised by ministries of defence and culture jointly. They were selected through a nationwide competition called ‘Vande Bharatam’, held at the district level with the participation of nearly 3,870 dancers in 323 groups progressed to state and zonal levels over a period of two months in November and December.
The dance forms included classical, folk,tribal, contemporary... India's national academy of dance, music and drama( we call it in India as 'Sangeet Natak Academy) granted the status of classical dance to 8 dance forms.(You can get the related information over net) At 4:07 it is Manipuri classical dance from the state of Manipur and at 3:17 it is Kathakali classical dance from the state of Kerala.You recognised Bhangra from Punjab😀 But as I said the teams performed all the 8 classical dances and many other folk dance forms
The songs are from different states.... The one with masks is kerela state's kathakali....and the others with lot of footwork was kathak....and the one where they are having a bucket kinda thingy as pants is Manipuri dance from northeast india
Yes right punjabis were doing bhangra which is the most energetic dance and they have to keep smile while doing bhangra bcz it represents happiness ,joy etc.

Usually republic day parade doesn't have any culturals.But this year as India completed 75 years of independence many firsts were included in the event. A nationwide competition with the name 'Vande Bharatam' happened during the months of Nov and Dec 2021.That way students got selected from various states (not necessarily from only 16 states )and they were rigourously trained at Delhi (capital of India) by renowned choreographers .Even the music and song they danced for is specially composed solely for this event. (I got this information from newspaper.My fellow Indian friends can correct me if I am wrong anywhere🙂)

That's not correct.. Republic day celebrations have always a cultural segment and dances included. I have been watching them for decades. It's the independence day celebration that is simple with flag hoisting followed by PM speech and over.

nami chan, hello. those students are selected from schools, who have dancing trainings. once upon a time, when i was in school, they took us for some not that difficult performance also, can not say i was too willing, but training & performing in front of a huge stadium full of spectators was a fun experience. 3:57 that is manipuri dance attire, they are from north east. try searching "manipuri dance" in youtube for some of their videos, if you want to know more. and react to "nungole nungole" 😁

In the first performance, the song is semi-classical (big chunks of Indian classical music, both vocals and instrumental, placed on a modern rhythm). The dance troops were from different Indian classical dance forms (India has many classical dance forms). They were wearing their classical dance outfits while their moves were classical hand gestures and postures blended with modern style. 2. In the second performance, the song is a Indian folk medley placed on a modern rhythm. The dancers performs folk styles and variations with some classical dance elements. 3. In the third performance, the song is the theme song of the celebration of 75 years of Indian independence (Modern independent India completes 75 years on 15th August 2022). Though the song is placed on a modern bit, the instrumentation is highly Indian classical stylized. The dance is a medley of classical dance moves with bits of modern influences. 4. In the fourth performance, the song is part of the previous theme. Here each dance troop performs the individual dance forms they represent. This truly shows the cultural diversity of India. To conclude, the history of Indian classical music and dances is very rich, carrying the fruits of a few thousand years of traditions. There are eight (8) major classical dance forms in India. Indian classical music has two (2) major traditions: Hindustani classical (from North India) and Carnatic (from South India). Each tradition has its own set of accompanying distinct instruments, with numerous prominent schools in each representing the various styles of each. Yaa on how the people are chosen for this? Indian have dance competitions from grass root level the top performers at inter district level Compitition are selected +Indians have many troop dancing teams that you see in Bollywood songs. So it's a tough competition to be performing up there .
@Dreaming of India Nami Chan India's usually have like Folk, Tribal and Traditional Dances, Folk represents the Village people of the state more like a Casual Form of Dancing, while Tribal is very limited to Tribal people meanwhile Traditional Dances are like a Conservative standard or more like a Formal Dance form. India is more like a Continent Disguised as a Nation which is really true in the truest form.
Those teams were from all over India, not from any particular state I think.. what we saw with the Bharatanatayam dancers clad in red, Odissi artistes in orange and then the Kuchipudi dancers in yellows. The folk section was a sea of green (different kinds of dance forms of different states) The designer says that it’s not just the costumes that she had concentrated on. By touching upon traditional, folk and contemporary practices, the display attempted to focus on the diversity that the country is known for, keeping in mind the importance of unity. 2. In the second performance, the song is a Indian folk medley placed on a modern rhythm. The dancers performs folk styles and variations with some classical dance elements.
3. In the third performance, the song is the theme song of the celebration of 75 years of Indian independence (Modern independent India completes 75 years on 15th August 2022). Though the song is placed on a modern bit, the instrumentation is highly Indian classical stylized. The dance is a medley of classical dance moves with bits of modern influences.
4. In the fourth performance, the song is part of the previous theme. Here each dance troop performs the individual dance forms they represent. This truly shows the cultural diversity of India.
To conclude, the history of Indian classical music and dances is very rich, carrying the fruits of a few thousand years of traditions. There are eight (8) major classical dance forms in India. Indian classical music has two (2) major traditions: Hindustani classical (from North India) and Carnatic (from South India). Each tradition has its own set of accompanying distinct instruments, with numerous prominent schools in each representing the various styles of each. Yaa on how the people are chosen for this? Indian have dance competitions from grass root level the top performers at inter district level Compitition are selected +Indians have many troop dancing teams that you see in Bollywood songs. So it's a tough competition to be performing up there .
@Dreaming of India Nami Chan India's usually have like Folk, Tribal and Traditional Dances, Folk represents the Village people of the state more like a Casual Form of Dancing, while Tribal is very limited to Tribal people meanwhile Traditional Dances are like a Conservative standard or more like a Formal Dance form. Those teams were from all over India, not from any particular state I think.. what we saw with the Bharatanatayam dancers clad in red, Odissi artistes in orange and then the Kuchipudi dancers in yellows. The folk section was a sea of green (different kinds of dance forms of different states) The designer says that it’s not just the costumes that she had concentrated on. By touching upon traditional, folk and contemporary practices, the display attempted to focus on the diversity that the country is known for, keeping in mind the importance of unity.

First part is from southern half and 2nd from northern half of India
