charmlessnerd same, it was Parklife for me, then I listened to the others, Modern Life is Rubbish, Leisure, Blur, 13 etc. Before finally buying Great Escape and Think Tank
Always and forever, thank you to Great Britain and the British people whose creativity, since the 1960s, has given the rest of the World hundreds of unique bands such as the Blur and music of unparalleled beauty, quirkiness and atmosphere. What would our lives have been without British bands? Thank you from Sicily.
how can Damon hate this album that much? some his best melodies are on this album. and the band graham alex and dave sound amazing. like they sound like a 90's version of the who and early beatles. only thing is the lyrics are mostly meaningless and cliche?and they hated their manager! but they sound great!
He hates it because band weren't the ones who did choose songs, recording company did. As he said they did so much better songs but record company has chosen those ones. Imo its very good album, about love and such. One theme, very very rare nowadays.
@Andrew077 It's a shame that he didn't feel confident in his writing. He did write a few gems during this era in terms of lyrics and interesting melodies. I think Blur's manager and the owner of Food are mostly to blame.
I remember my expectation of the album being pretty low mainly cause of Damon & the critics plus I knew Food Records had a large say in what songs went into the album . Ended up really enjoying it. Same with "Great Escape" it's not their best work by any means but man it's still a solid debut album. The lyrics can be pretty weak & clichéd but the melodies are strong. "Bad Day" "Fool' "Repetition" & fan favourite "Sing" are good tracks any one of them could of been a release. The 3 released tracks are pretty good as well "She's so high" is a great debut single. "There's no other way" was quite a good attempt at the Madchester scene & is pretty catchy. "Bang" is pretty decent but definitely the weaker out of the three released singles. This & many other albums have taught me to never listen to the critics always judge for yourself. Even if some of the band members diss it you might still enjoy the record.
This is the song that got me hooked on them! It was 1994 and my best friend had just got turned onto Blur and Ride by his girlfriend at the time. We sat in his den and listened to "Leisure" on cassette. When I heard that wah-wah riff from Graham, that was it!

Leisure is mostly a boring album, but there are a few gems, like this one, that make it a really nice, bright spot on a great discography of this great UK band, Blur. The chorus is on another level of cool.

FORGET THE CRITICS. LEISURE IS AMAZING I LOVE THIS ALBUM AAAAAAAAAAAHHH
One of their best in my opinion. Especially Sing from Trainspotting.
Blake Walker It's not my fav, but still awesome... Yeah, I love Sing too
+Maria Tereza (Tetê) I would never have heard of them if not for Sing being in Trainspotting
Blake Walker My dad has the CD the best of Blur and I used to watch Coffee and TV music video when I was a kid... That's how I got into Blur

@@k-leb4671 Ultimately, God is the owner of Food, wouldn't you agree?
The whole album is amazing. Not a bad song on there.

Best blur album but they did try to scrub it from existence for a while or something. Couldn’t get it...
Blur was deep far away in such a Mario Bros skip level no one ever knew it.
is this song good?
yes she said!!
Is this permission?
I'm here because I had a bad day
You're in the right place! 😉
Correction: Bang, There's No Other Way & Sing belters
The lyrics it's like The Smiths
This is real England 🇬🇧
Why it sometimes sounds similar to deeper underground by jamiroquai for me?
Probably because the Accordion makes a tune that sounds a bit like the bass to Deeper Underground.
Because it uses the same 12 notes. Sorry - just a joke!
🫠
Not a bad album, I count 6 good songs, 3 of em (2,7&1) belters then 1,5&8 are good. The rest is drool. Bad cover as well album 3/5 6/10 stns
