Marrowbones - found in English folk and publicised in the small booklet called 'Marrowbones' published in the mid 1960s - and as Kelsae Toon in multiple much older Scots collections. There's a couple of important verses missing where the doctor/apothecary tells the old man what his wife is up to, and to pretend to be blind. It's long song in full but hard to think why Roy and Ronnie missed that part out. The tune (many variants, some without the nonsense refrain) is not particularly Celtic and it's used for Morris dancing because it plays really well on little squeezeboxes.
There's another version with a cautionary verse that goes something like "Eggs, eggs and marrowbone, won't make your husband blind, if you want to be rid of him, just sneak up from behind."
Great to see the old videos of the Corries. Thanks.
Love this one, Linda! Both the vintage footage, & sure wish someone would push the first one in (& two or three brae Scots hold him well under!
Misandry: It has always been with us!
Hunh, first time I've ever heard this one...Same air as the old woman from wexford from Ireland.
If this was now they would have been strapped on 🤣
