    You had me in the first minute, that humor is what makes it not boring to watch and learn, for me at least. Thank you for this video!

    Honestly, all of the books I've ever read were never really good for beginners. The authors are always super intelligent, but suck at explaining even basic topics to people just starting out. I guess that just because you know a lot about a subject, doesn't mean you can teach it well.

    A lot of different ones..."Computer Networking, a Top Down Approach" by Kurose was one of my favorites, but I think its a bit too detailed for beginners. They go into a lot of detail about different protocols, but it doesn't give a really good overview for people just starting out.

    Business Data Networks and Telecommunications by Pearson is a pretty solid textbook for beginners. I used it in my college introductory network course, and it's fairly easy to understand. Chapters are long with a lot of content, and I'd recommend getting it used due to the price.

    Yes Wang. This itself is a Network. Network means the `data` is flowing between two devices, let it be your Computer, Printer, Router etc. You have the Network without server and most home networks are like that. But it doesn't means that you cannot add up a server. :-)

    This is actually pretty cool cause i have my house pretty much set up just like this and never really knew it was called this or it worked in this fashion. i have it set up with a Wi-Fi router that's connected to the standard router and most of every device/ computer is ran off this device!!
    this is pretty cool though i like it!

    ok, now the question: how in bus topology all the nodes are connected to the internet? in star there is a router, but in bus topology there was only one cable with terminators

    • @TizShak
      @TizShak 7 років тому +5

      Kinda late, but routers are also used in a bus topology. The difference between the two is in a bus, the nodes/devices must be physically connected to that ethernet cable or else there's no connection.

    It's also important to know that systems connected to the network unnecessarily, can cause major security issues. It's important to disconnect systems when you're not using them.

    great videos. i really enjoyed your networking series. what's your background besides having done independent research?
    also, do you mind sharing the name of the software you use as a virtual drawingboard?

    But a ring is also dependent on the MAU, or have I understood it wrongly?

  • @soulextracter
    @soulextracter 12 років тому

    Bucky!
    you say the main downside of a star topology is that it depends on one device to work, mainly the router!
    But you said in the beginning that this topology was good because it dont fail if one of the nodes break down, like they would in the other topologys, so is it really a downside? A router is so simple to switch

    That's the only topology i get, because that's what I set up at home.
    How do you get a bus topology? what kinda wire do you have to buy? Is it like an octopus cable or what? ^^

    Can we make up a network without servers? Actually, my homes's network is a star topology, but it only has a router without a server.

  • @BappyGolder
    @BappyGolder 10 років тому

    Can you combine ring and star topology? For example can you have it all connected in a ring like system in the middle where there is a couple routers so that if one of them breaks the network is still functions alright?

    What would happen if you set up a "star of stars" network with two switches that are connected by more than one cable? I have a homework question this and I'm not sure about it.

    • @erikshure360
      @erikshure360 6 років тому

      georgebaggy then you now have a new network. Remember routers typically route computers/networks (think internet) and switches typically create networks.

    The central device should be a switch and not a router.

    • @erikshure360

      Muhammad Nada Routers can act like a switch; plus, they have the added benifit of connecting your network to the internet.
