I used to use a lawn sweeper in the Fall to pick up pine needles and oak leaves. It worked great. One caution. If your lawn is not flat (ie. dips and valleys) then the sweeper can drag the wheels, which will tear up your grass. Thanks for the informative video, Brett.
The great thing about that specific sweeper is you can get the thatcher add on so you can dethatch and sweep with one pass. I’ve been looking into getting that setup before the end of this year.
I don't have a JD sweeper but really like my Agri Fab blue hawk and not the quaility of the JD but gets the job done. On the JD i like the adjustment panel near the hitch i may see i can modify one for mine. I also like dumping the grass without removing the catcher and now thinking mine might do that 🤔 . Great tip's i need to pull mine back out and tinker with it.
I have two sweet gum trees in my front yard, and right now I have hundreds of gum balls from those trees in my yard. How would this sweeper do with the gum balls?
So I have two acres of a mix that is part bahalia and it grows 2 inches in 7 days. Lots of clippings.. like 6 pull behind carts chock full of healing clipping (cows love it). Would this be too much for this sweeper?

What's the biggest thing it'll pick up? As crazy as it sounds, I'll probably find the occasional dog toy. It would probably help me more prior to mowing with twigs, small sticks and dog toys, if that wouldn't give it an issue.
How closely can you maneuver a zero turn mower while it's attached? Because it would be great if I can use this while I'm mowing to save gas. If not, I'll probably just invest in a push sweeper
The one I have is not a John Deere. The bearings are plastic & freeze up & only picked up leaves. Would not pick up sticks, pine cones & needles. It’s completely useless. Do your homework before buying one.

Do you engage the mower’s blades when making a sweep or do the sweepers automatically do their job without engaging the blade?

How well does it pick up sticks? every spring I have hundreds of sticks on the lawn some up to an 1 inch diameter.
I have a lawn sweeper and bagger system and i use the lawn sweeper in the sping and fall and use the bagger the rest of the time.
So mainly the sweeper for the first cut and the last one?

Ii use one of these and use 'Pam' spray on the bottom to slide along easier. It works to keep clippings from sticking to the backing too.

I actually have tested it up to tennis balls and I know it will pick those up. I think you should be able to pick up a lot of your dog toys.

I used a similar sweeper behind my quad to get pinecone off my mother's lawn this past weekend. It will do it.😊
Can you use a sweeper that is significantly wider than the mower?
As long as your mower has the towing capacity to pull the weight of the sweeper and whatever you are picking up.
Will they pick up acorns? I've got millions this year...

That would work if you are mulching. If you have a chute on the mower will shoot the grass out of the pickup path.

I was using a Z530M in this video, but you could use almost anything with a hitch.
