Big up Matt and NotSo. I really should join your Patron. You’ll be the first pod cast that I support in that way. Your my favorite show, and I’ve listened to all the episodes multiple times. I usually listen on apple pod cast, but you popped up in my recommendations on here, and Ive always wanted to leave a comment. Thanks for such a great show!! I started smoking daily in 1996, and tried my first grow in 97. I was a teenager at the time.. I’ve always been interested in strain history, and I’m just barley old enough to remember, and have participated in the good old, sketchy, pre medical days. Breeders syndicate is right up mi ally. I love it. Thanks again

Frank had what he bred that was later named chronic. It was a skunk # 1 x big bud x nl #5 ( '87 ) . Apparently it was tested at around 27 % thc after a bust that happened . This is directly from Frank in an interview. I'm glad you mentioned that many Afghanica varieties have narrow leaves as well as the broad leaf varietals. I noticed it a long time ago with certain pheno types of hindu kush ect where they looked as if they were sativa or crossed with one . The flowers are usually different, but the narrow leaflets and sometimes viny , stretchy branches, with long spaces between internodoeds are actually very heavy indica varieties that have the look of sativas like the viny Thai traits ect . But the buds on these various plants are very dense despite looking like a sativa . I also see different expressions in different environments as you mentioned as well . Outside varieties show sativa traits as that is better for the extremes in a particular climate such as heat, co2 , uv radiation and humidity ect . Whereas indoors the same clone may be far more compact and have much broader leaves. Its unique to environment and I have seen it with several varieties like og kush, purple urkle ect that show variations from the same cut if you change the environment. Great show very entertaining and informative

Here in blue ridge mountains in Virginia I was linked up to an old crew in my late teens 1994 I was taken into plantation the grower was an old Marine he told me he had been growing 27 years at the time he was breeding and everything he was running an Afghani line and Hawaiian line back then .his neighbor I had heard of first,an old surfer 2021 he told me the best OG was a crippy he’s been growing for 50 years now plus, I would like to see him get an interview by some of the podcasts but these old dudes still don’t communicate with outsiders. I Haven’t seen the old marine since 95-96 but I still talk with the old surfer.he told me 2021 his lines grow about a pound a plant here in Va but in California the same plant put off close to five Lbs. I'm in VA too. East side of the mountains. Every year I get Septoria from all the dew and humidity. I would love to find some outdoor varieties that have been growing outdoors for many years and generations that are resistant to septoria and budrot! This year I grew some autos and some photos early in the season, bringing the photos inside every night so they finished in midsummer before the heavy rains hit us. Next year I'm going to make a makeshift greenhouse to keep the moisture off the plants.

Hi there! Regarding seeds infected with hplv, I crossed an infected plant to other infected and uninfected plants, and got to test the results by growing all crosses. I concluded that it all depends on the level to which they are infected (how long and how bad they are). It ranged from not viable seed at all to totally uninfected. When the receptor is infected, most of the times you will have to desinfect the seed with bleach to can avoid them getting infected after sprouting. I still have all those seeds, I crossed blue dream to a bunch of different things. I didnt know at the time that they were infected, I ended up losing all my genetics. Now i keep plants apart (no hidro cloner for example) and I clean everything with bleach. I've been clean ever since ;)

Finishes Oct 20- Oct 30th weather permitting. Here they get 7-8.5 foot tall with colas as large as my forearms.I seek out the phenos that lean toward the Ghost OG flavour profile.

I just saw that Seedfinder updated their information about OG, they said that it was an accidental herm of "Emerald Triangle" and Neville's Hindu Kush from 1989. Is this correct? Maybe i missed it but i didn't hear the genetics talked about in this. I thought for years that it was Chem 91 x Lemon Thai/paki kush but obviously this is incorrect.

This is PURE speculation. The original posts from the person who make this claim are a LOT less sure when he posted as TriTip on icmag. He’s quoting Marty - and Marty is cool af, but maybe just became a little more confident in what it was for marketting purposes? Alec said the Emerald triangle was different and not related. Alec A. Has been the most consistent on that story from day 1. I’d check out his interviews. There are zero answers for OG Kush yet. Some folks are still thinking that it’s a Chemdog S1. The lemon Thai / paki story was from an old con artist named Kailua Kid aka Paradiseseedsmod aka Tk1 aka Jon DeC. he made it up to sell seeds. And folks still repeat it like gospel for whatever reason. Every clone that came from that dude was fake too. So many turkeys. Seedfinder is a semi decent resource but because anyone can add to it, it’s 99% misinfo. We are developing the new real strain database with references and provenance

A big problem with it is that even Matt and Josh have changed the story alot . First it was a bag seed from a bag of crippy and now it's a clone he brought back . Then the way the bubba kush was supposed to have come up is matt bred it but now says it was a cut ect. So there's alot of things about it that are iffy of course on who or how it the original og came to be . So unless it's going to be tested side by side , nobody's gonna know. Some are of course or very likey selfed . But theres some interesting common traits with some like SFV og ect . Theres two master kush varieties that went around heavy. Theres the original Hindu x Hindu and also the Hindu x Hindu x skunk # 1 . Just it was mentioned earlier and if I had to guess I'd say one of the parents is a Hindu kush ( maby master or even sensi seeds , the seed bank or breeders choice original Hindu kush ) as the flavor, especially the latter part of it is very much that of Hindu kush or master kush x skunk . It's not the olny parent in my opinion, but the aftertaste is very close to one of those . Who knows for sure and I like that the northern lights # 2 came up again as it's the second time I've heard it was a Hindu kush parent and definitely would make sense with its flavor, smell and effects.

I recently scored D.J. Shorts breeders choice mix #1 the floral side sativa dominant mix on SHN auction. On the back of the pack it states that it's parentage is 1-7 FL line that was the origin of his "Happy Pussy" line crossed with a resinous F-13 male. It further goes to say that 25% of the progeny will show stellar floral Indica phenotypes and 75% Hazy Sativa phenotypes. It also goes on to say to expect approx. 25% keeper gems for breeding stock and that Indica doms expresses homozygous recessives.
I was pretty stoked until I just heard Notso say that he grew out ( how many was it?) a much larger population from D.J.s blue line with not much variation at all. Should I lower my expectations on finding the 25% keepers to more" in the ballpark" realistic 10 % (If I'm lucky!) keepers out of a 16 seed population? Regardless, I plan on crossing my favorite 3-4 females to whichever favored father I choose of the line. My goal is to create an Indica Dom line with 2 different moms and the same father and a Sativa Dom line with 2 female candidates and the same father as the Indica line.
Do you guys think that I should lower my expectations of 25% keeper gems as D.J.
States? Does my game plan for further in breeding the strain sound sufficient to avoid inbreeding depression with the two separate lines (the two Indica Doms) being crossed together or maybe an open pollination for more diversity.
Sorry for hijacking the subject matter of the OG Kush and so many questions!. Thanx for another great discussion !

So here’s what I’ll say about DJ and his current offerings. If I were going to grab some DJ short stuff that really represents his work really well, I’d go with the stuff Blue Star Seed Co is making and avoid ANYTHING made by JD short FOR DJ the past decade or so. Depending on what you’re buying, like the happy pussy era stuff, I can’t comment on - never ran any of the JD short era stuff. It does look very pretty, but I’ve never heard anyone say it’s reliable for any blueberry scents. So that’s the true dividing line. I believe the stellar stuff lies in the berry scented lines - I’ve chosen the Afghani direction for my work - Blue Star Seed co has chosen the more sativa direction for his work. The mark of a truly brilliant breeder is understanding the lines and I can tell that Blue Star Seed Co truly understands DJs work and In excited to see what his and DJs collaborations bring.
JD will tell you I hate DJ. That’s not the case. I think JD did DJs work a true disservice. I think DJs work was made in a very unique and out of the box way - it’s not the method I would’ve used, however I wouldn’t have ended up with what he did because of this.
blueberry will always shine in outcrosses or backcroases with a recent outcross. It’s so heavily inbred, it almost demands it.
Anyway, all that to say under Blue Star Seed Co, I TRULY believe DJs current reputation stands a chance at finishing strong.

IBL doesn’t necessarily mean all traits are the same. But they all have the same gene pool. For example, I just popped about 30 French breakfast radishes. And about 3 of those had green stems. They’re considered an IBL. They’ve been bred since 1879. So just because those 3 don’t have the same expression by having a green stem and not red, doesn’t mean it isn’t the same gene pool and it will still produce a a French breakfast radish. Not trying to argue or nothing, love the show, but just adding to the convo.

    • @OG_VeniVidiVici
      @OG_VeniVidiVici 2 місяці тому

@@BreedersSyndicate Hey I actually looked more into french breakfast radishes and they are indeed an IBL. They were selectively bred using the same seed stock over and over so it's relatives to relatives. There was no outcrossing so it isn't a standard line breed. So my original statement actually holds true. Being inbred means there's little to no variation left, but that doesn't necessarily make it homozygous. Breeding true for a trait and being an inbred line don't always mean one in the same. And being true breeding for a trait only really counts in it's own offspring of the inbred line because that show's it's homozygous for the traits selected. But that doesn't mean the trait is always homozygous dominant, it could be a homozygous recessive trait so when bred to something else it doesn't express. But yeah, long story short, inbreeding and line breeding don't mean every single plant will end up homozygous, BUT that there will be LITTLE to NO variation. AND whatever variation is expressed should be homozygous for that gene's expression which is where the little varitation comes from. True breeding is for the trait in question in its own progeny when bred further in a line. What do you think about this?

@zhou_sei that is 100% true. I think part of the issue is due to popularity OG lines probably get polluted often but when its the real deal its actually quite sativa compared to most indica hybrids especially today. If you TASTEFULLY cross it with more sativa dominant bud im sure you could create a good yielding shorter plant with invogorating effects. The closest I've seen is Alien abduction which has a particulary sativa phenotype of chem 91 or chemdawg i believe "ether cut" it is definitely more euphoric and energizing than all the hype strains with OG"cookies" on both sides

My point is, who is responsible for naming any of these traits? Could it be marketing hype to standardize the industry? Unfortunately there is no real proof, just speculative debate. Ie; drama… Greed is never righteous. Nobody invented our plant. It’s the gardener that the plant represents. We all know this so why the nonsense?✌️

Still very unconfirmed. But no, chem91 is wonderful, but that chem91 expression isn’t in literally 90% of the strains out there. The og kush expression is - so regardless of whether chem91 is the mom or not (could be, but again zero proof) the ugly ass look of chem91 with leaves eating itself and the acrid chemmy notes aren’t what changed the landscape. You didn’t see 8k lbs of dog. You did of the kush tho. So, in that aspect I feel pretty confident with the title 😂

Og stands for original. That’s it. As far as genetics no one agrees.
