- A mysterious red glow captured by a pilot flying over the Pacific Ocean has sent internet sleuths into a spin.
The phenomenon was later revealed to be arrays of red LED lights being used by fishing trawlers to attract a specific type of fish.
If ever I get abducted by aliens, I'm considering it a rescue.

This is how I see it. They do but don't post. A few post it but it doesn't go anywhere. The handful that do get solved rather quickly. Besides that, the other pilots already know. It's only weird and noticeable when it's extreme.

It's not a "phenomena", it's just bright red lights illuminating the cloud layer from below.
You don't know everything, and never will. It never mattered before because it's no different than a person discovering street lights existing in 2022, no one cares.
@@wth......53 I'd never seen it prior to this video either. but once it was explained it made perfect sense. and since I am a pilot and an engineer that builds things for NASA, I'm used to looking at this kind of stuff from multiple perspectives. Also have some experience with reconnaissance and such in the military, looking at intel images and such. Rare unexplained phenomena is also a passing interest of mine. But this one has so much evidence for it once you know what it is and what to look for.

Lol. Man, I'm a pretty down to earth person. I use to laugh at the idea of some ominous unidentifiable objects existing in this world. That's until one night I see something hovering over the woods that's beyond any reasonable explanation. I find it extremely odd that, if this is fishing boats, that it hasn't caught the eye of the public more often in the past. It should also be able to be recreated. Maybe it was fishing boats. However, I'm certain we don't have the proper explanation to all the weird stuff that's been caught lately. It certainly adds more credit to stories in the past.

Because pilots would get their licence taken away from them, the company cant risk mental illness on such a job, so the pilots keep quiet even though they see it. This is actually what happens during thunderstorms above clouds, it's called a transient luminous event, look into it. There's videos on youtube. This red glow specifically is called red sprites. This phenomenon went under the radar for so long, nobody was sure it existed, but pilots KNEW, but they couldn't say it for legal reasons.

Red Sprites were only recently discovered and before that nobody knew about it and they would've thought you were one of those mentally ill or schizophrenic pilots talking 'bout aliens and alien ships. In short, all pilots knew about these red sprites before they were even discovered, but they didn't talk about it to anyone becaus they didn't want to risk losing their job because their employer thought they were schizophrenic.

This is literally a chinese fishing fleet, we've seen this a couple of times in Southeast Asia, South Pacific Ocean, and South Atlantic Ocean. They stay there to fish for several weeks and even a year until the area is almost completely out of fish and the reefs are destroyed. These guys have no respect for nature at all and I wish the world and the UN is made more aware of this before it's too late to prevent its consequences.
I'm pretty sure the UN knows and they don't care.

So let me guess this straight, pilots fly the route for 70+ years, first time anyones ever seen something like it, you can see the red lights from the international space station and commercial fisherman are responsible..

Nope, these are clouds which have water vapor that reflects light between each other making it seem larger than it really is, I saw similar thing over indian ocean in an aircraft but it was white cause they use white lights
The cloud cover disperses the light to make it appear larger.

Flew over these lights several times off of northern Japan and Kamchatka Russia. Thin cloud cover looks eerie but clear nights reveal that they are boats with bright lights like the white and green fishing and squid boats. For some reason the red didn’t last long. I only see green and white these days.

Its really weird because ship captains have reported seeing similar lights right around the mariana trench, some will abandon the area to fish elsewhere.
Seems a bit odd. So they are very visible from many miles away. Wouldn't other pilots have seen them? Wouldn't it be something that pilots would talk to one another about? By the way the story is presented, the pilots on this plane are the very first ones to ever see these lights.

Many factors at play. Currently the moon is just a sliver. Less light from it. Cloud cover, pollution and migration of the fish. Hence all of the fleet is very close to each other.

You mean why has an airliner captain not been conveniently looking down at heavy clouds above the pacific where there has conveniently been a fishing vessel using super bright red lights that would conveniently light up said heavy clouds like a christmas tree?
Not like the pacific is massive, and not only do airliners not always fly the same path, the fishing vessels also don't always fish in the same spots, nor is there likely always such heavy clouds above these vessels to cause this effect, making any past sighting be more of a "Oh look a fishing boat with red lights"

AHHHH NO, they did not see lights on top of the water and they did not see a ship. If it was a ship, with lights around it to attract fish, then you would clearly see the outline of the ship. There are multiple lights here, with no clear definition. The lights also look like they came from UNDER the water, not on top. Not sure what it was, but I don't buy their explanation. Boy, they think we are stupid.

Those are clouds.
Water is translucent, which means light can pass through it. The blue sky, for example, makes the water appear blue. Red lights will make it look red.
From a distance, something as big as a ship can appear small. Several glowing ships, seen from a distance, will appear splotchy, as in this video.

This is true. Many ways to attract fish. Even during the day you can use the colorful rope flags around freshwater boats to attract fish.
So why point these bright lights upwards where they'd be least effective and why aren't there a lot more examples of this happening on a regular basis?

The aircraft is 31,000 feet up - almost 6 miles away. That red glow looks awfully large from that distance to be emitted from lights around a fishing boat.
It would take many boats sitting close by to cause that. Not just one.

Back in 2013 I went hiking off the coast of the Pacific Ocean in CA. Around 1-2am as I was walking in the canyons I saw a “mysterious” red glow this color. It illuminated off and on about 3 times before it stopped. Probably 5-10 miles away Lighting up a ton of the mountains. When I went to record both my phone and iPod were coincidentally dead. Swore it was some sore of extra terrestrial stuff.
So did your cell phone and iPod work OK later? As in, were the batteries just drained, or were the gadgets permanently damaged?
@@nevillec5252 just coincidentally dead. Pretty sure my phone was already dead however the iPod “glitched” well above 30% and died. Wouldn’t turn until I plugged it In later that night/morning. It instantly turned on as it was plugged in. And it had the same % as it did when it “died”.

In the Adriatic Sea they call this fishing with a ‘feral’. On a clear calm night during Summer, they use gas powered lights (what Victorians used to use on street corners), and a few extra boats. The light in the middle of the night would attract many fish from the deep in a positive loop. Add a few hours, and you would get serious tonnage underneath the boat… meanwhile, the other boats are letting a huge net around the light boat, which is slowly being tightened. This net can sometimes be 100+ metres long. Using LEDs is a new innovation here, but it’s pretty much the same concept. The red light in this case is amplified by the white clouds & fog. It creates a flood light effect on a massive scale. As more fish paddle around, the 2 nooses of the net can be tightened into a landing net within hours. 😉
