@Ndudu by Fafa , Many thanks for this method. I tried this for the first time yesterday on soft yams. But it turned out very crunchy. Thanks to you Fafa

Usually when the Yam is old it tends to have that bitterness and also some variety of Yam are slightly bitter naturally. It’s best to opt for Pona (Yellow Yam) which is naturally sweet and best for frying. What can be done to reduce the bitterness of Yam (but not eradicate it entirely) is to soak the Yam pieces in a tepid sugary water for at least an hour before frying.
I am from Denmark and I just bought a big beautiful yam from Ghana today. I have absolutely no no idea how to cook or how to eat it but I can’t wait to try it❤ Can I eat it with a beef stew? If yes how would you cook it? Why do you add salt water to the oil? Thank you so much and love from Denmark🤗
You can enjoy yam with beef stew. It's one of my favorite dishes. Also,You can either boil or fry yam. The salt water was added to the oil to make the outer layer of the yam crispy. However, it's not a must to add salt water to the oil. Check out other UA-cam videos of how to boil, fry and store yam the Ghanaian way. All the best
Thanks a lot Fafa. First question is, how long do you soak the yam in water before frying?. Second is, once you use the oil with added salted water,do you discard the oil. In my home we use same oil to fry stuff multiple times. Thanks again.
I really don't care which way it's cut as long as it's crunchy on the outside fluffy on the inside with the right amount of salt with some dip and I'm good!
I've never had yam so have to ask- how did you know part of it had gone off? I'm curious to try yam and would like to make sure I use a fresh one and know what to look out for.
Pls after adding the salted water to the yam in the oil do I have to repeat it by adding water till I finish frying all the yam. Suppose the yam am frying is many. Tanx
Hello fafa, I love your videos and you've made me take an interest in Ghanian foods lol. ( I'm Nigerian). However, you didn't indicate the amount of salt or water tho be added to the yam. Tried this at home and the yam came apart in the oil 😩😩😩
Thank you gorgeous. The full recipe link 👉🏾 ndudu-by-fafa.blogspot.com/2019/10/how-to-fry-your-yam-chips-perfectly.html?m=1 I used 120ml of water and 1 levelled teaspoon of Salt. 😘😘
Hi Stephanie, mine almost came apart in the oil as well but I left it to fry a bit longer in the oil and the end results was great. You can try again but let it stay in the oil for longer... Think Fafa said 8-10 mins
Fafa gives us all her recipes but look at her tummy why tho ? It should be big as mine is not really fair , I remember I cooked your mpotompoto recipe and I finished all myself without giving anyone I didn’t give anyone cos it was damn good , fafa eat and let’s all get fat together wai haaba 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I can imagine you adding too much water, not waiting for the water to settle and turning the Yam whilst in its soft state which will result in a mushy texture. If you didn’t use a non stick pan I can also imagine it sticking to the bottom of the pan…chai I can feel your pain. Doesn’t mean you can’t try again and this time adding the water a bit at a time.

Hi Fafa, any idea on why the yams sometimes turn out bitter? Could it be the type of the yam or theres a way to handle that. Thanks

I've been wondering how to get rid of the bitter aftertaste that comes with fried yam. Any tips?

Thank you. You need to soak the Yam for a minimum of an hour. I reserve the oil and use it either again for frying or in a stew . 😘😘
Thanks Fafa,for your speedy reply.
Perfect. Thanks Fafa

Amazing! Must try this 😋
Please should the salt be small, when mixing it with water
Can you do that salt and water Trick with potatoes ?
Yes but I don’t think Potatoes do need that as they contain more water in comparison to Yam ❤️❤️
Please can I also use sugar to boil my yams ??
Instead of salt Please reply
I bought some is it meant to be bitter?
Great video
Hmmm let me go and teach people
How to stop the yam tasting bitter?
Hi dear. Please do u keep adding the salt water when you fry another set
Yes you do but dilute it a little more
@@NdudubyFafa okay. Thank you. 🤗
Trying the fry yam, but with sugar. Trying to give it this sweet sugary outer coating. Please someone help
Best to boil your Yam with the Sugar diets before frying
Pls after adding the salted water to the yam in the oil do I have to repeat it by adding water till I finish frying all the yam. Suppose the yam am frying is many. Tanx
Yes, I guess, because the water evaporates. And you have to add salt to each batch, so keep adding the salted water to each batch you fry. 🙂
Is there any way to remove sourness
Which part of the Yam did you use? The head, middle or tail part of it?
Why didnt you soak it in salt water then fry?

How she pronounces "Sauce pan" 😂😂😂
Can you please answer the question about the yam bitterness instead of asking a question too?
