Nope...it really was a spur of the moment decision to cut Hershel's leg off. Rick was hell bent at this point to try anything, which was to cut the limb before the effects of the bite traveled. Yes, he could still die, but he was gonna die anyway. So why not?
That's the vibe I got from Daryl and Carol. Love their relationship. I don't see romance, just close friendship. Really sweet.
I rewatched this episode on Wednesday. It's funny how many times you hear Rick yell: DARYL!!! In this episode. You could almost make a drinking game out of it.
This is the season where TWD became one of my favorite shows.
Interesting because season 3 and 8 are my least favorite seasons! I quit watching TWD towards the end of season 8 so I didn’t watch season 9
@@stewies5522 You should really try starting it back up. I didn't mind season 8 myself but it's hated by most TWD fans and most of those same fans would tell you that season 8 is worth watching just because how good season 9 is.

Season 3 episode 1 was the first episode i ever watched (at a friends house) and after that i went home and immediately binge watched the first 4 seasons (at the time there were only 4 seasons out) and ive been hooked ever since. So this episode holds a special place in my heart lol
had both my brothers hooked with that episode too
I myself luckily found the show when S1E4 was brand new, which was kinda a hidden gem at the time for me because services like netflix & co weren't accessable in my country at the time and US cable shows certainly not

"Seed" represents protection from outside threat; environmental threat (the prison). It also represents fertilization (Lori & baby). And growth (Hershel's comment on seeds).

Great reaction! I love this premiere, the initial scene in the complete silence is so goooood! It is called Seed because Hershel mentions they can farm some seeds in the prison, meaning they could start a life there.

Shane didn't actually care about the rest of the group though. He told Lori one on one when nobody else was around that all he cared about was her and Carl. He would tell Rick he was doing what was best for everyone, but when it came to Lori he told it like it was. He wasn't actually interested in helping anyone else. He also displayed that when he did whatever he could to save Carl but he gave up on Sophia and tried, repeatedly, to get Rick to move the group on (despite that he wouldn't have done so for Carl, versus Rick trying to take care of Sophia's situation even after Carl was out of danger).
The actors in season one were mostly (if not completely as far as the mains go? not totally sure on that one) picked out by the showrunner of season one (Frank Darabont), who had previously worked with a good chunk of the cast in other works he was involved in. Many of those actors had already worked together, so I imagine doing so in TWD was a lot easier going for many of them. Carl's actor had previously worked with another person who has a lot of influence on TWD (Gale Anne Hurd). Frank Darabont definitely did an amazing job with the casting though for sure.
Shane actually made it to season two because everyone loved Jon Bernthal and his acting/what he brought to the show if I'm not mistaken. Shane is killed in the comic pretty quickly and if they had followed that route he wouldn't have even made it to season two. It's interesting how important they made him in the show. The show version went far beyond what the comic version did with Shane.

The episode is called seed because Hershel was taking about how they could plant seeds and stuff in the field, while they were sitting around eating together in the field.

Mathew Zimmerman I stopped watching but I still kept up with the show I know Angela Kang became the new show runner in season 9 and I was gonna start watching again but rick and Maggie leaving made me not want to continue the show should’ve ended its gone on too long if Andrew Lincoln was ready to leave the least they could’ve done was give the show a proper good ending with him still apart of the cast

LOL I love it the reaction to the leg chopping off scene and the prisoners. The first time I saw the prisoners the way the camera panned and you see their faces was hilarious I watched it three times when it originally aired. Buckle up Duo Reacts its about to get really good now.
This season is my top three favorite season's, Rick whole 180 was my favorite character arcs and transformation in television history as it was a slow build up and a long time coming when it finally hits it climax
Only thing i thought of when it came to the title seed is that they started off going place to place and never stayed to long at houses they have cleared. So i thought of it like the group are seeds trying to find a place to grow
This is the season I watched my first episode of the walking dead. In fact it was only 3 seasons in and a marathon of episodes. I fell in love instantly.
You're right about it being hoping and praying, but other than sheer desperation, now that it's discovered that everyone is infected, it's apparent that bites aren't as infectious as was originally thought.
Actress who plays Michonne is also in black panther(Okoi) and infinity war and endgame, she looks different cuz she is bald in those movies.

The title of the episode, "Seed", refers to when Hershel suggests that they plant seeds to grow tomatoes, cucumbers, and soy beans within the prison yards.
A baby could also be called a seed as well and that's what was on Rick's mind in this episode. Finding a place for the baby to be born because Lori is super pregnant.

Can well just take a moment and observe how awesome the first minutes of the episode plays out?
Not a single word is spoken but we can see so much about what the characters have gone through since the end of S2.
We can see that a significant amount of time has passed given the way the characters have grown and facial hair (Herschel).
They have gotten a lot more experience and are working together as a great team. We can tell by how well organized search of the house is done by all
They have bonded and are growing closer to each other. Great scene and great job by the actors conveying all of this.

In regards to the title of the episode, TWD often names episodes with a simple word said in the episode. I believe in this episode when they were all by the fire, Hershel was saying how they can eventually use the fields in the prison to plant seed, therefore the name of the episode. We're finally here s3. I waited for this since s1 with u guys what I love the most about this first episode is the first 5 mins how the group's moves without saying a word they know exactly what they looking for and what to do now, I just the synergy between the group. T dog announced the walkers everyone grabs everything and leave and Maggie grabs that extra axe before getting into the car then they dip, organized team (BADASSES)

I’ve just now after all these years got an idea why the episode may be called “Seed.” Maybe it means like the Prison is a seed to a new life, like a seed is the start of a plant’s life. Like it’s saying the group can start as a seed in this prison and build up a life there like a plant builds up from a seed.

As for why it’s called Seed - no clue honestly, I suppose it might be something to do with the symbolism of planting a seed for the future (the future being the prison) though to be totally honest, my brain always immediately connected it to Lori’s baby belly 🤷🏼♀️ if I had to make a guess though I’d say it’s a reference to this laying the groundwork for the rest of the season

Alright Steve and Lacey ❤, y'all managed to make it to season 3 of TWD. This season and season 7 are my favorites. And yes from what I heard from the comicbooks was there was a time jump a head a few months and they had survived the winter. That's where Andrea got sick.
I do love the opening to this season. The way it opens, you see just how battle-hardened EVERYONE has gotten. There are no helpless survivors anymore, unless you count Lori, on account of her being very far along.

While I'm not sure how, Lori's accidental affair with Shane was revealed to the group when Daryl said "Lil Shane has an apetite". I didn't realize this the first time I watched this episode, but Carl also knows about this as well which is why he cant stand his mother now.

remember when i said the it's human nature to break down into tribal formation you now seeing it first hand, the only time human's are civil is when they have five things in there lives food, water, fire , shelter and security. When these five requirements are met humans have time to forms societies bringing them out of tribal mentality....
we can assume by Lori's belly that's it been at least 6 months on the run since the farm has fallen. that's a lot of on the field training no mistakes can be made and everyone has to pitch in that's why Carl was helping to clear the house and why there moving so quickly and quietly. I bet they would be a tough match for any special forces unit out there. that's some hard core training ..
Do also see how there attitudes about the walkers are changing as well no of them are scared any more there taking time to talk about how to clear while being surrounded by the walkers ....This world is forcing them to adapt and over coming.....how everyone is doing there own part now most don't even have to ask what there doing they just know...

There are many reasons this episode is called "Seed" possibly
1. Hershel suggests they plant seeds in the prison yard to grow their own crops
2. The group themselves could be the seed planting themselves into the prison, making it their new home
3. Or a reference to Lori's baby

I always laugh when I see the part of michonne picking up the aspirin. When it goes from the aspirin to a head... I always think “ take two of these and call me in the morning” not that it would help that head lol.
