This is really odd. So after winning the US Open last year her forehand still needed some work. Then in the last 3 or 4 months her serve took a nosedive. 2 tournaments since her & BG’s split & there is a noticeable improvement in both though still have a long way to go. For those of you who are more adept at tennis than myself am I being too generous with my assessment or maybe there’s zero improvement at all? Thoughts…

There is major improvement, the forehand used to be a weakness, her serve was inconsistent. Both needed tweaking. Her grip was the problem. Her new Coach is a grip and technical specialist and it's obvious after almost a month that's he's slowly fixing the issues. A lot of important matches where Coco lost can be attributed to her UE in the Forehand and her DF at serve.
Gilbert was more hindrance than help. The ability was there, Coco needed guidance developing it. If there was 'zero improvement' she wouldn't be where she is now.
Tennis is so much mentally! When you are not feeling confident you will make many mistakes. This happens all the time with all the players. Its hard to be consistent the whole year long. Coco never lost her tennis skills but she lost her confidence and Brad Gilbert was not working either. It was all pere riba who was behind her successtory and not BG but BG got all the hype and credits. The moment pere riba left the team Coco became in a slum. It's all about the good feeling and feeling confident.
@@andreawilliams7187 Its not about chanching the grip. She is just 2 weeks with her new coach Matt Daly. The time to chance the grip is too short. Its about feeling good and got confidence again. She will hopefully chance her grip in off season and work on her serve but after 2 weeks we see already more confidence and a more happy and reborn Coco.
Really poor attendance. I noticed that in Shanghai too. LOTS of empty seats, even for the final there. Very disappointing, for organzers and for players too. Tennis must not be popular in China, or maybe they aren't interested in watching a black American play?? Not sure what's going on there.
