Certainly a blast from my past, this game is still tons of fun after checks calendar 25 years?!? I don't know which other versions support the analog stick, but it feels so much better to me than d-pad controls. Maybe I could get used to d-pad someday, but it doesn't seem very compelling.
However, this version does have some odd quirks, including points scoring being sometimes questionable and collision completely failing occasionally. Don't know if any of this stuff happens in the PS1 version, but overall this one seems pretty stable (yeah it may have crashed on me once, but surely that was MY fault).
Wreckin' Racing definitely feels like the most interesting category. Stock Car Racing seems more challenging and surely a more stable category. Wreckin' is really fun though, so no problem sticking with this one for now.
Should be able to improve this run by more than a few minutes. Still plenty of room for improvement in performance. Being able to score more points in a single event is critical to overcoming the game's randomness. Not sure about an overall time goal, but sub-35 is very possible in the short-term.
    CATEGORY SUMMARY
In Wreckin' Racing mode, you score points mostly by spinning or knocking out the competition. You get double points if the other racer is in 1st place at the time, so headhunting can be lucrative. You get bonus points for finishing in the top 3. But also, you can quit an event at any time and keep the points you scored thus far.
Events are simulated to completion if you drop out early. You can drop out of as many events in a season as you like, but you need to outscore the other 3 racers in your division overall in order to advance. It's difficult to tell if you have enough points to win the season, so you usually score as much as you can (as fast as you can), drop out and hope it's enough.
It does seems like the other racers score less on average when you drop out early, but points tend to vary quite a bit. You can try targeting the other racers in your division if you do race, but otherwise it's not all that controllable. Pretty much RNG hell.
