Wow. The hip drill was a subtle detail that I’ve been missing. My coaches instruct us to elevate and pivot on our toes, I really like the idea of just spending some time breaking the kick down into steps.
I want to say that after practicing the hip isolation idea that I got from this video before my Kun Khmer class , the coach said my kick had improved since the previous class. Thanks a lot!
I've been a fan of Muay Thai for sometime now and have even done a little training while on vacation in Phuket, I'm really liking the breakdown of this kick. Of all the types of kicks in Martial Arts, Muay Thai kicking is my favorite, uncomplicated yet very devastating kicks. Thanks
Thanks so much for the breakdown. Thai’s are the baddest dudes in the world. They seem like such a humble and friendly culture as well. God bless you guys.
Three months in..... I know the kick should be somewhat intuitive... But my body still wants to say no to the torquing. But this video is a great help. Thank you.
After watching this I realize why they would swing your arm down I used to do that a lot and hated that I did that for so many years I thought I was practicing bad technique but now I see why it makes a difference
Thankyou so much...you can never repeat something too much... I got so confused with left hand down, righ hand up leg up right hand up...I looked like an octopuss in a washing machine and my coach lost patience 🤗so...secret practice required before next lesson🤪Good thing about UA-cam...its very patient.💞💞
Crazy technique. The form was very good. In Specific the one where the kick was thrown at you, and you use your body to leverage out the maneuver of the kick. Subscribed!
Great video. 7th dans in karate always say go back to the basics. You are teaching a strong foundation. Thank you. Now i have the opposite question. Before i saw Om Bak i thought muat thai was mostly leg kicks and elbows. But now i think it is much deeper. Can you show some of the other lesser know. techniques?
I find the best way to learn any physical activity is to break it down into multiple movement and then assemble them as you get better at each movement you can then determine what part of the movement needs improvement
Hi guys, you are both amazing trainer! Do you have your own gym that we can train with you to perfect my skills during my next trip to Thailand? Thanks Allan
Decent video. You are getting more experienced every day. I would like to ask. I am right hand leg dominant, writing kicking etc. My left kicks are lacking a lot. I can do whatever I want with the right leg but I can't seem to feel and throw left kicks good yet. I'm sure it will be better if I practice more , I thought maybe you have any practice ideas for orthodox players to kick with the left
I got the same problem! But my trainer told me that kicking with you less dominant leg will be much easier, because it is easier 'to let it go'. Atleast for me it is. The dominant leg has often tendencies like using too much power instead of the right technique , because you're used to using that leg. Your left leg will start with a blanco canvas..... enjoy the ride!
Best thing that happened to my left kick was injuring my right leg after a fight. I wasn't able to kick for a 2 months with my right leg, and used my left kick only. That made my left kick my favorite weapon. Practice using both legs, but if you have a weaker side, emphasize that side.
*When you learn about the culture behind Muay Thai and the reason they fight the way they do, the movements, the counters, then you really understand the technique*
This guy has the perfect form. You know most of them who teaches kicks begin to kick and leave their head open and they're the ones saying always cover your face but after kicking their guard is lower than before.
I see some Thai fighters like Ann keep their kicking leg almost straight when doing the kick, other fighters I see almost fully chamber the leg when doing the kick. Is there any reason for that or is the straight leg just more traditional? Cheers.
Every fighter will have a slight variation in terms of how their leg looks. You will notice that in Kickboxing they tend to keep the leg bent, while Muay Thai fighters they have a straighter leg.
Still non of these thais fighters ever step up in the octagon. They would get their ass whoop up and down lmfao. It's like going on boxers video and saying how their striking is superior to MMA fighters dumbass of course someone who specializes in a specific only is gonna be better than those doing different movement such as MMA. You need to have stand up, different types of clinch battle and ground game. These Thais would get destroyed, just go watch Edson barboza vs Khabib or Kevin lee. Edson style is similar to Thai and have been practicing Muay Thai for years go watch him getting eaten alive
You cant turn your hips like he does in this kick without turning your foot around otherwise your knee would snap as the knee does not rotate. And in order for your foot to rotate it cant be flat as their would be to much friction between it and the floor which would prevent your foot from turning, therefore the foot must come up onto the balls of the toes in order to turn.
I have 1 kid very good on boxing n elbows but it seems like he cannot understand the body mechanics of a kicks. I have train her part by part like you. But still not doing it wrong. I'm stressed. Any suggestions?
i cant kick coz my legs r too tight how do i fix this like a body kick i cant straighten the leg im kicking with as its just too tight any help will be appreciated
I have a quick question if anybody could please help me. I am training muay thai and injured my right foot, and I am wearing the same thing the Thai guy on the right is wearing (the pink thing) what is the use for it when in the middle of training if not injured? I am assuming he is not injured.
He is wearing an ankle support, which provides more stability in your ankle. It is ideal for people who have a sprained ankle, but if you train with it often it can take away your ankles natural strength. So ideally only use it when you are injured, and take it off when you get better.
It appears that you are saying that after placing your lead foot you then first swing and twist your hip then launch your leg into your kick when you are actually doing that at the very end of the kick.
Wow. The hip drill was a subtle detail that I’ve been missing. My coaches instruct us to elevate and pivot on our toes, I really like the idea of just spending some time breaking the kick down into steps.
Yup me too brah, my kicks are five times stronger!
If you can manage to pivot your foot 180 degrees with the hip movement you'll send heads flying and ribs caving
@@0-zon3player66 i cant do well at home, cuz i just turn myself around like that.
Same. Just found this and can't wait to try it out in the gym for warm ups
yea same

This is a great breakdown of the technique Stephen. Especially the part about turning the hips. Thanks
Cuz he is thai guy
I remember doing that same exact kick and I thought to myself "aliezah that is incorrect" than watching this again. Boost up my confidence.

Thanks so much for the breakdown. Thai’s are the baddest dudes in the world. They seem like such a humble and friendly culture as well. God bless you guys.
I’m just getting into Muay Thai and this tutorial is great!
CHeers!
Thank you very much for the hip drill. Been struggling to throw a perfect kick. Thank you 🙏🏽
Glad to hear that it helped!
Excellent teaching. Very detailed instruction. Love the slow motion effect that helps you see the correct technique.
Thank you guys for your channel.
This video just helped me out tremendously like I was having so much trouble understanding kicking but that hip drill just changed my whole game
Appreciate the comment. Glad to hear you are using it. 🙏🏼
Thanks Stephen, love your stuff. I recently bought your 3 Muay Thai books and I study them every night! I'm determined to become a pro fighter :)
Thank you for the support. Good luck with your journey and remember to master the basics.
Where can i get these ebooks?
Update?
Good job guys, this serie of videos reminds us that fighters need to get back, no and then, to the basics of muay thai
Agreed! Thanks for the comment.
I usually teach people to kick without them kicking at first. it's nice to know I'm not full of shit!
Lol
I usually teach people to kick...with their fists.

Hip isolation part seems to a good idea especially for ab beginner like me who had been struggling with my kick.
Great video. I'm going to practice this hip drill everyday for 20 minutes now. Thanks 😊

It takes years, and I know a lot of people never develop it properly. So keep at it!
Fantastic video, as always. Can't wait to train at Sinbi in December when we're in Phuket.

As someone who doesn’t have access to a Real Muay Thai gym in Canada this helped me a lot as I love the sport but am unable to get any real training.

Those tree trunk legs on the thay guy..
You should see how hard he kicks when he used to fight. One of the most explosive kickers i've seen.
@Banter Bulldogge if you lean the way you're supposed to it won't hit your face that's a matter of understanding the move and practicing
Awesome video bro
Very helpful thanks
For me a key point was to focus only on the body and hip movement and let the kick come naturally with the momentum, like a whip.
That was good man!! ✌😊
It's helpful thx

Beautiful!
That is some serious “hip” action. John Travolta would be proud of you.
Shoulders and torso follow through with hip as arm whips back?
So is the toes coming up an after effect of the explosive hip turn? Rather than focusing on turning with the toes first then the hips?
You cant turn your hips like he does in this kick without turning your foot around otherwise your knee would snap as the knee does not rotate. And in order for your foot to rotate it cant be flat as their would be to much friction between it and the floor which would prevent your foot from turning, therefore the foot must come up onto the balls of the toes in order to turn.
which is correct?
do you step forward or step diagonally forward?
do you kick with bend leg or straight leg at the point of contact?
Wouldn’t stepping out with your lead foot make a better torque for a more powerful kick?
Okay got it salsa 💃 hip thrust !
Thanks!
Thanks, great
