15 years ago, plastic 3D printing was cutting edge and nobody thought it would be usable by the average person. 10 years ago, it was super expensive and usually only schools and, libraries, and other facilities would have them. Following this path.... Metal 3D printing will be commonly available in maybe 20 years, possibly shorter if we factor in acceleration of technological development. Also side note, from a commercial diver. If you're going to be wearing this often, for prolonged periods, I recommend wearing what we call, a Dive Helmet Snoopy. Basically a Kirby Morgan Helmet Liner. It will pad around your head, and help fill the empty volume of the helmet so it doesn't wobble as much.
This is all 80's tech and it's leaving its closed-source limitations behind slowly. We are RIGHT on the cusp of SLS plastic printers entering the consumer market, and you can bet SLS metal printers will be right behind that. I'm hopeful that within 5 years, both formats of SLS printers will be available for consumers under $10k, FDM printers on the level of the X1C will make up a significant portion of the sub-$600 market, and ACMO-free resins like Formlabs' Creator resin line will hold the majority of the market share for UV printing resin. In 20 years we better have Star Trek replicators or something lol
I just want to say, I’m glad my annual Specialist sub on Patreon didn’t go to waste on boring things like employees pay checks or rent for the studio. But to something awesome like this! Money well spent! I approve 😂
Adam Savage showed off the early version of this tech. When he had a MK1 Iron Man suit printed for him. Would love to see the helmet done up with a auto paint job in faction colors. Also "For The Greater Good!"
3D printed advanced materials in the world of aerospace is quite interesting. However, it's not really meant for the cosplay world. This is like in 1986 when I walked into an electronics store looking for my first relatively large screen TV. The salesman pointed on the wall to brand new tech called " flat screen plasma TVs". It was 27". "So how much?" I asked ... he said "$25,000". I said, " I'll come back in a few years ..." 👽😬
As far as 3d printed titanium goes, I recently picked up a 3d printed titanium supressor for one of my rifles and it's insane. Genuinely feels like one of those sunblock spray-cans, has a rough finish like you expect from SLS prints, but can somehow hold up to .308 and supersonic 300 Blackout.
Love it, bit would of done that in pieces. And wouldn't of bothered with the respirator tubes, could of brought the down when you had pcbway print it. Still awesome to see. All hail the God Emperor of Mankind!
Really cool video 👍 I kinda wish you had done that spray on chrome that you have to start with gloss black on the plastic one to show how different and time consuming each process is. Really enjoyable experience anyway 😜
Awesome! If you could find one with a volume large enough I think a vibratory tumbler would be the way to go. You'd probably have to leave it in there for weeks, but it would do all the work for you. Being all metal you could powder coat that in a transparent blue, it would look like blue chrome!
Thanks for sharing! I was able to metal 3D print a custom lightsaber hilt that I designed and I’m stoked that custom designs are…. Somewhat attainable now!
Belt buckles, like Han's blaster holster buckles, is definitely the thing that comes to my mind for metal 3D printing. Hand-made metal ones seem to break from weak welds
Want the same effect but for a cheaper price tag? Metal infused pla is the solution for you! It’s not very strong but it has similar properties to metal, for example it’s shiny when sanded, it’s heavier and it can rust like the real deal.
oh sweet. looks so so feckin good in metal. I bet it felt bloody heavy on your head? Loved the part with the 3d metal work guys. there reaction was classic. that was so cool seeing what they did with it too. Thanks for that. Best bit of the video other than the bloody helmit, lol. I was really wanting to get your files for the 40k helmets when you did you comp a few videos ago. I just seen the video and then this one after. But I looked at it i dont know what it is, but i just go errrh!? brother. I never seem to get the info i want or need from "a" patron. The info just does not really tell me what im getting into and what to do. What do i have to do to get them? i think i have to get you patron? pay moneyz i get that, but then you say (and this is the same with many other people that do patron which i just dont get, maybe you dont) i have to get it now or the month later or the files are no longer available? So FOMO? Or am i miss understanding? I am looking at the pix for what you get for one month patron but there are no 40k helmets other than one with big ass with horns. Where are the others? I just dont get patron with its limited access stuff. What happens if i seen these videos a year later and then do the patron but then dont get access to the files i wanted? i get pissed off thats what. It really makes no sense to me. I guess its the "stile of the times"? It seems i really am old. Sorry ive never used patron before. i dont like its FOMO that people seem to use it for. But i love 3d printing, 3d modeling and such. And do a lot of it. And i like your helmets. It says "Must be an active Patron to participate and vote" id like a bit more info on what i get when i join and such. "Get access to all NEW and updated files for the current and previous month!" but what happens if theres a model i liked in your video a few months before? FOMO? its almost like a bad kickstarter where u just get blerb and no real info. So what do i have to do? what does that tell me about being able to DL the files and print them? I looked an the images for this month and some cool stuff but not what i was looking for. so what do? errr sorry guys, maybe im am old, ranting and a little bit drunk tonight, but im still gona post this and i still dont get it. lol. Anyways love the work, keep it up. Cheers.

I have 2 questions that dont have to do much with the actual vid but, any chance of a Rusalka helmet from the Halo infinites season 5 battlepass in the future? and where can i find the files for the Mirage armor in the backgound?
I had myself a Mandalorian helmet made of stainless steel. While this thing is super shiny, supercool - it is sooo heavy to wear longterm. You really feel it, and my neck is not used to it, I have to admit that. As a display piece, it is outstanding. But for cosplay? Hmmm...not so much, to be honest.
Ah, good old metal sintering. Curiously the technology is akin to resin, just using a laser instead of UV light. I wonder how it would do with being anodised.
Don’t worry! Every single time we were sanding we were either fully masked up or ensuring the sanding surface was repeatedly soaked with water to capture any particulates!
@@flatlineforge5119 Ah I see. I've had good results on old transmission cases with wire wheel but I guess because it's sintered it might have an issue. Good to know. Thanks!

Looks awesome, do you think you'd use metal 3d printing on a large statue similar to Master Chief in the future?
Unlikely as I'm usually trying to make those as light as possible
It would have been cool to see some footage of the helmet being printed. But enjoyed it anyway.

Anyone else notice the metal Helldivers helmet in the background of Baltimore Knife and Sword?
It's not metal, that's my helmet! It was the first prototype resin cast from GA, I just finished it out and use it for my Helldiver costume.
3D print it in PLA with risers and vents, then do lost PLA sand casting. That's the cost effective process.
For wearable comfort I'm going with the plastic, for collectible/ display purposes the metal one is the obvious choice.
Look amazing guys!

What was the thickness for this helmet, and how thin would you be able to make it to decrease the weight?
About 3-4mm. For a metal printed helmet you could probably go as thin as 1-2mm!
@GalacticArmory that would definitely help with the weight issue, but I'd rather wear a plastic helmet if it means not breaking my neck.
The imperium of man thanks the servitors for their service

I think it would be much easier, with the rough surface, to just paint it than to try and buff all those crevices, good job

Did anyone notice the Helldiver Helmet in the back?
I have one simple question, is it bulletproof?
It's aluminum, so no.
Im really curious about how electroplating fits into this, it is cheaper and you can get a similar finish with a plastic center

why not just use an electric sander?
