The All-Japan GT Championship, launched in 1994, quickly became a favorite among grand touring car fans. The 1997 JGTC series saw the Supra competing against formidable rivals in the GT500 class like Porsche GT1 and 2 models, Honda NSX, Lamborghini Diablo, and Nissan Skyline. With its 3SG engine, the Supra dominated by setting new qualifying lap records and securing multiple victories.
By the final race at Sugo, Krumm and de la Rosa had claimed enough podium finishes to win the championship, cementing the Supra's legacy in motorsport history.
