Always go with the v8 if you plan on keeping it. And if you do have to work on it you don’t have all that EB plumbing in your way. Yes, the EB does produce power, but it beats itself to death to do it; and the mpg drops below a v8 when using it like a truck. EB is like waiting for a grenade to go off. There’s no replacement for displacement, period.
P.S. the resell market is full of EB and very few V8’s... I wonder why..? LoL

ATTENTION FORD F150 FANS: Scotty Kilmer says the 5.0L oil consumption problem ('17, '18, '19) is a Ford class defect that Ford won't admit to. All of Ford's work arounds don't address or fix the real problem..... which is that Ford used an aluminum block on these 5.0 engines, and didn't sleeve the cylinders. They used a ceramic coating in these cylinders (to save a few pennies), and this coating is either failing or it isn't working as it's supposed to, thus causing the massive oil consumption problem.

Pootie Putin People should consider the morimoto break-in method on gas engines. I believe it makes a big difference in oil consumption.

I had a 2917 GMC with the 5.3 and 6 speed transmission and I had to have the transmission rebuilt twice in 128k. I traded it recently for a 2018 F-150 lariat. It only has 48k on it but they have a really good track record, so I decided to give it a try. Thus far I am really impressed. I originally wanted a Toyota Tundra gen 2, but the gen 3 issues have pushed the price of the gen 2 too high for me. Great review! Thanks!

Hi Bill, My first new Ford was a 69 candy apple red fastback Mach 1 Mustang 351 4bbl. My wife's 93 Thunderbird 5.0 still runs great after all these years. Before that I had a New 66 Vette 327CI solid lifter cam. I am also a Ford shareholder since the 1970's. But times and conditions have changed. Do some research. Ford has a Technical Bulletin out on the 2019 with 5.0 ______ they consume too much oil and Ford is offering to replace the blocks on the high oil consumption ones. Either the blocks are warped or there is too much clearance between the rings and cylinder walls. Mine is consuming around 1 quart of oil per 1,000 miles driven. My wife's 93 T-Bird 5.0 consumes ZERO oil between the 3,000 mile oil changes and it has well over 180,000 miles on it. I am 70+ years old now and drive like an old fart and never push the 5.0 and it is still using oil. And the freaking doors won't close when it drops below freezing. And they occasionally pop open while the vehicle is in motion. This coming winter I am going to call for Roadside Assistance each and every time the doors won't close and murder Ford with roadside assistance costs.. By the way I paid cash for it. My 1982 318 CI 2 wheel drive Ramcharger still runs, has 495,000 miles, original engine and trany (neither rebuilt) ___ and still does not burn oil.

Hi windell, the 5.0 WAS a good engine. WAS. There is already a Ford Service Bulletin out on the 5.0 now for 2019 calling for Block Replacement if it consumes more than one quart of oil per 3,000 miles. Do yourself a favor and Constantly check your engine oil level___ when the engine is cold before use ___ and do it on level ground..

Toyota so far will get my business because of this. Thats a major issue. Its not a broken seat belt screw.

I love Toyotas too. Almost bought a 5.7 Tundra last year. They are very well built. But the difference in fuel economy swayed me to the F150 5.0. The Ford is a lot faster than the Tundra, tows significantly more as well, and I average 20 mpg vs 13 for Tundra. I did the math, and driving 2000 miles per month like I do, the Toyota would use $190 more in fuel per month! That’s crazy. Toyota has got to get their Tundra fuel economy up, WAY up to compete with Ford.

I have a 2019 F150 5.0 and it still has the same bad door latch issue that Ford has had since at least 2012. Doors will not close when below freezing outside.
When parking it while it is in auto start stop mode when I pull into my driveway and stop with my foot on the brake the engine cuts off which is what it is supposed to do when coming to a full stop, yet when I shift it into park and take my foot off the brake ___ the engine goes into runaway high RPM mode which cannot be stopped without turning the ignition off. Also watch for engine oil consumption. They use oil. They make use an excessive amount of oil. Ford has a service bulletin about the issue and replacing the Block is a part of their solution. My advice is to disconnect the auto start stop feature ___ because it can result in run-away engine speed when shifted into park when you come to a stop. All of the bells and whistles mean nothing when the Basics are a problem. Who wants a truck they cannot close the doors on when it is cold outside??? Who wants a vehicle that the engine goes into run-a-way mode when stopping and shifting it into park?? On 1 to 10 scale I rate it at 5 at the very most. Re: Maintenance look at here the alternator is placed on the lower engine changing it. a/c compressor etc. and other components the way they are attached to the front of the engine is going to be a mother of a job.

@@AdventuringToday Hi Adventuring today, Skipper I suggest 1) Notify and file a complaint with National Highway Safety. 2) sign on to joint in one of the Class Action law suits against Ford on this issue. Here is one law firm link Denlea & Carton NYS denleacarton.com and there are other law firms with class action suits also. 3) Use you states Lemon Law to make Ford buy it back (unfortunately I paid cash for the full cost of the vehicle, had I financed it through Ford with No Money Dow I would have simply stopped making payments and let them repossess it). . 4) Each and every time it happens call for Roadside Assistance under the Ford Warranty you get 3 years of Free Roadside Assistance. We have to Flood Ford with roadside assistance calls that they have to pay for. 4) Document and video tape each time it happens. 5) WARNING the doors can also suddenly pop open while the vehicle is being driven when it is cold outside ___ even with the door lock latch in the Down position they still can pop open when driving.. Found on the Road Dead may have an entirely new meaning when drivers and passengers start falling out and dying on the road.

@@samgentile7494 im currently in the market for a truck. live in the south where everyone drives a truck. but someone said to me, "do you ever see ford trucks past 5 years old on the street for a rare 1 or 2?". So i started to look. Theyre all 2012+ and saw one 1999 still on the road. That tells me something. When i see more Chevys than fords for the long term, then the choice is clear. Dont spend 45k on a "well maybe they fixed the problem from 2012 by now and maybe in 2020 they fix the 5.0 issue" attitude. So with that being said i cross ford off my list, especially the new rangers which people who havent hit 12k yet are reporting issues. No thanks, is chevy better? ehh, but i know toyota is on my list.

@@grimakastatik Hi Jon, My 2019 F-150 is a 2 wheel drive with electronic posi rear and I drive like an old fart at a very steady 55 to 65 on highways in the far right slow lane and drive 50 mile trips without ever touching the brakes because I am driving slower than the other vehicles and so far (10 months old) it has averaged 16 MPG on highway and in the suburbs with virtually no stop and go high traffic driving. My 82 Ramcharger 2 wheel drive 318 ci averaged 19 MPG with a 2 BBL and no electronics and got 22-23 mpg on long highway trips.. The new 5.0 is nice, but it takes GASOLINE to make that HP.
Each and ever vehicle uses FUEL to make HP. Expect poor fuel mileage with any higher HP vehicle.

2018 new gen 5.0s where rolled out. Ford has bandaids but no solution, which would be to make a new 5.0. 2018 and newer have oil consumption. A 2015-2017 used is more expensive than a 2018 + used. Enjoy your 5.0 oil guzzling POS.

5.0 engine is trash. Oil consumption is hitting it hard.

    • @craigg4246

The high oil consumption has been traced to a bad PCV valve. Ford has redesigned the part. My V8, with the original PCV, was using a quart in 800 miles. After the new PCV, about 5000 miles per quart. Still not ideal, but certainly far improved.

Hi Buck, Ford has a service bulletin out calling for replacement of the block if oil consumption is a problem. I am going to wait to have the block replaced on my 2019 5.0 for 2 years and put miles on it first, but get it done 6 or so months before the warranty runs out.

@@samgentile7494 Correct me if I'm mistaken, but I believe that TSB only applies to 2018 model year 5.0s. I believe the oil consumption issue is related to a change made in the cylinder lining for 2018 model year that was corrected for 2019. I've not heard of anyone with a 2019 having the issue. Is yours a confirmed problem related to the TSB?

Patriot Why stop at doors that won’t open...some wouldn’t latch shut, my hubs are now broken, my PSD is overheating, my engine block heater wire was cut by the dealership due to fire / safety recall, my wiring harness needed to be replaced, etc. All this within forest 44,000 miles.

I like the video. BUT, the XLT is not a work truck. Let's be for real. I'd bet that 8 out of 10 never see any work. And of that, over half spend their life in a suburban drive way.. Nice truck though.

    • @craigg4246
      @craigg4246 5 років тому +1

tilley Schmolph I agree the Tundra is a better made truck. But, it doesn’t have near the features the F150 has, or near the power, and the fuel economy is dismal.if you drive 5000 miles a year, who cares about mileage? But I drive 2000 miles per month. At that rate, I calculated the Tundra would use $190 more in gas per month. It wasn’t THAT much better built in my opinion.

    • @luvslogistics1725

F-150s last a good 250-300k easy, just as good as Tundra but better fuel mileage, engines, towing, hauling, features, options...

tilley Schmolph Heard if you need to rpl a starter, you have to get behind the engine which requires taking the top half off. Wanted a Tundra till I heard that.

Disappointed. Doors are out of alignment, shifts horrible with clunk sounds coming from transmission, and the backup camera is blurry. Bought mine with hardly any miles on it. The only upside is the coyote engine.
