Skating a dry fly about sundown in the late summer is very exciting.There's no slow rise; the trout have to swim fast to catch up to the moving fly on the surface.
Sometimes they jump out of the water and come down on the fly. Smaller trout often hurry too much trying to catch the fly and misses are the norm; not so with the bigger more experienced browns, they can usually manage to grab it. In the excitement,however, fishermen often pull the fly away before a large trout closes its mouth.
