- Even though the system is 11 years old, it can still overclock well, even with a stock cooler. The good ol' Core 2 Duo can still overclock well. An the old Radeon 4830 overclocks...well...it just overclocks.

I Have a E7400 (2.80ghz) overclocked at 3780mhz stable and mining 24/7 Temperature doesnt go over 72 with stock fan/heatsink. Intel says you can safely run them at 74.9 C 24/7 so that means even at 80C your CPU should be ok.

These days id go on ebay and get a q9400 or something to squeeze every ounce of performance from your pc. Core 2 quad is like a modern i3 2c4t cpu.
See i just overclocked my core 2 duo at 3.8 ghz so theres really no limit...although i just settled for 3.2 ghz to stay within 70C

If i overclock my CPU past 3701MHZ, My motherboard stop recognizing my hard drives.
I can easily overclock my E8400 (3GHZ) to 4500MHZ with a 5$ heatsink/fan from ebay but when i do, i have to run windows 10 off a USB stick which defeats the purpose

I only ever managed 4.1ghz ln my e8400 back in 2012. Thought.. the peripherals will crash if you're changing the systems base clock. You'd want to change the cpu multiplier instead so you aren't overclocking the motherboard itself. Those old systems had several chips on the motherboard that was hugely related to performance and stability.
And perhaps I just realized why I got 4.1ghz and you get 4.5ghz.. better motherboard chipset maybe..
I was running my E6850 (3GHz stock) at 4GHz. Wasn’t possible with stock heatsink, but with a bigger one from cooler master it was okay.
My first true gaming setup was a beast of a cpu.. the e8400 overclocked to the mighty 4ghz. It was during the sandy/ivy bridge days so even at 4ghz it was not holding up against the i7 8threaded cpus that were being released. I was on pentium D820 before that. Barely made it without getting that damn pentium 4!
I have overclocked my e8500 3.16 to 3.7 this gave me %10 more fps

My theory is that intel simply slapped a 2ghz rating on the chip and sold as lower end just so you have to pay more for rhw natively 3+ ghz chips. Obviously back in these day it was a lot more beneficial to overclock as your margins are better. Today, we have 5.3ghz freaking boost clock on a single core out of the box but you're lucky to be able to get 5.5ghz on all cores. Thats hardly worth a damn thing. Especially when you NEED an aio just to cool it at stock.. it basically comes with a factory overclock.

Can you maybe help me how to overclock ? My pc has a q6600 and a gtx 660 do I need a new cpu ? Or can overclocking make the system not be bottlenecked by the cpu?
With a gtx 660.. if you're playing at 1080p.. You're going to gpu bottlenecked pretty often, however, it'd be crazy to think you wouldn't have a much smoother experience move to an i5 or better. (Quad core i5 system will be about twice as fast as q6600) q6600 will get over 45fps in a majority of games I think.

@@billcipher8787 yes but my point is there are plenty of options for an i5 system at almost free prices. A $35 i5 system will be far faster. I have gotten these deals many times over the years. Search for used i5 Dell or hp towers for a good deal. They're out there. I just got a r5 5600 and motherboard at microcenter for $200.. with deals like this.. there are people out there that understand that an i5 4440 tower is not worth more than $50 and if you get lucky you can find one for $25. I found 2 i5 systems full towers(4440 and 3570) at my local dump that are in use as servers to this day.. Computer parts basically last forever so buy or find used parts!

Mate, the Core2 line of CPUs from Intel. The chip in my PC is an E4400, a dual-core CPU, clocked at 2 GHZ...TF you talking about?
Well my core 2 duo.is clocked at 2.7gh.and 4 core and 4 threads.and over clocked to 3 gh runs just fine
