Packie Russell (brother of Micho) & Manus Walsh (Concertina & Bodhrán) play beautiful music in Gussie O'Connor's Pub, Doolin, County Clare in April 1973.
I Was there in the end of the sixties. The man who played the Bodhran was famous cause he had been on "telly". He came walking over the mountains to O Connors Pub to play his Bodhran. Fantastic for me coming from Stockholm Sweden . Friends in Ireland called Doolin The Mecka of Folkmusic so of course i had to go there
I can't imagine O'Connors without Packie in his own chair by the fire. I was a regular for a couple of years in the 70s. We were told that Packie made the fireplace that you can see behind him. He was one of the most interesting people that I ever came across. He actually played very infrequently at the time I was there but we had some very surreal conversations. He was definitely a one-off.
@mistermucky17 - If you've been there (when the O'Connors still owned the place) you might have seen Packie's concertina in the glass showcase? It's a 4-row Jeffries Anglo that was bought by the pub, for Packie to play there.

On a flat road in the west of Scotland that depends on whether you are going north (down) or south (up) Sios gu tuath, suas gu deas. In London, and probably other places, you can go down east or up west.

O'Connor's was a great pub back then, unspoilt and with way better music, and only a fraction of the size it is today.
Lovely clip. I've been there, I remember that fireplace. Is that a Crane duet concertina he's playing? Very unusual style anyway.
