Over the next decade and two, teen age romancing pairs became popular with the younger generation over the earlier mature pairs of yesteryears, which had won the hearts of their parents. With time, music became synonymous with loud noises, melody was replaced by techno-beats, and meaningful sweet lyrical poetry was unceremoniously driven away by something hybrid that was neither prose nor poetry. Understatement was now a thing of the past. Bold and vulgar dialogues and songs with double-meanings were in "in thing." Sexual innuendo were common.
Many senior actors retired. Comedian Johny Walker in one of his interviews specifically said that is why he chose to retire. He categorically refused the roles because of vulgarity instead of clean side-splitting humor. I. Believe,, Mehmood on the other hand no qualms about that. Other stars either chose to play character roles or some ventured into production and direction areas. Some stars focused their efforts on launching the careers of their children.
