I’ve nearly got this song down thanks to this video, cheers David! Always appreciate the way you break down the beats in these videos. I’ve been trying to play Slint’s Good Morning, Captain recently, it’s got a really interesting groove to it. Would recommend checking it out!
Just found your channel yesterday and really dig how you break things down. Subscribed! I know all the parts to this song. It’s just my left forearm is already burning by the time I get to the first verse.
Dave Weckl has some excellent advice on relaxed grip that might help. THis isn't exactly what I hoped to find but a good reminder to mind the (thumb and index) gap ua-cam.com/video/5V1DsEjGRdw/v-deo.html
After trying for 3 years this song, i cant play well that 16th notes correcly i lost control all the time over my foot and speed up sometimes, besides of that i can play a-ok
Love your persistence Wilham... I always like to slow the song/ parts right down and practise them that way. Then build up the speed bit by bit, as long as the technique, timing and control is there. Also, here is a lesson I did on bass drum control. ua-cam.com/video/19uvDUvCciE/v-deo.html Keep up the great work!
The drum sheet music shows a hi hat hit with the snare on 2 and 4. I don't think I've seen anyone actually do this though (for this type of beat), they leave the hats out to keep the alternating pattern going with their hands (they just hit the snare, usually with the right hand, instead of snare with right and hats with left). Is the sheet music wrong here? I think playing it as stated in the sheet music would be tougher, and not add much here. Maybe that is what the little > denotes by the 2 and 4s?
This song is very easy. I don’t know why everyone makes a big deal out of it. You can slow it down if u want. Almost of the time,,when bands record music .,they speed it up in the studio. Then. Slow it down live.
Hi there... There are 3 types of learners... 1) Those who learn best by watching. (visual) 2) Those who learn best by listening (auditory) 3) Those who learn best by doing. (kinesthetic) In truth, we are all a combination of all 3, but we each generally have one that makes the most difference for us...
@@rockyvsrambo82 yea. lol like i know that in terms of music some people can learn a song using perfect pitch but that doesnt apply to drums lol. anyway sometimes it could be hard to figure out what the drummer is playing. for example if i listened to a crazy drum song i couldn't do it. so i was confused how others do BUT i probably dont have enough experience cuz i am somewhat a beginner
@@Jepleg It gets easier as you start to become more aware of patterns that show up again and again. However, some drummers play things that make you have to listen again and again. In the tricky situations, its great to listen or watch at a slower speed. To be honest, thats what I have done when learning a lot of parts to songs. In addition, I would practise it at a slower speed also. Then, once I have the idea, then I would practise it faster.
Hmmm... Loud high hat. Without actually going ahead and replacing the high hat, you could actually practise the idea of not playing the high hat as loud. Try play it with half the height and volume. (Perhaps even have the high hat more closed than open too..) Rather, put more volume into the snare and bass drum... Try it out and see if this helps...

@@aydensilson6280 I'd love to but I dont have room for it :(
Most difficult song I've tried to learn.
Well done for giving this song a go... Its a great challenge, no doubt...
This is the ONLY song in my 44 song setlist im scared of! LOL!
I can actually finally do it now with ease for some reason
Excellent teacher. After a 32 year absence and never really a technical drummer this explains it perfectly and easy to understand.
Nahh caravan. From the movie.
Brilliant lesson Thankyou
Thanks, good job
Awesome lesson thanks. On the 2 and 4 the high hat and accent are notated at the same time as the snare. Are they played?
Great question David... The HH is not played in this situation... Thanks
RIP Taylor🕊🕊
Damn, actually I can feel these hits 🫨

I don’t even own a drum set but I’m trying to learn it so if I was ever on the spot and had to play something maybe I could kinda sorta play this song

You are correct. You only play the snare on the 2 and the 4. No High Hat on the 2 and the 4.
Keep up the great work!

Hi Mike... Thanks for your thoughts on the drum parts of this song... Appreciated!
Kinda the opposite usually, song gets played faster live most times
I’m 10 and it was easy😂
I got it tattooed on my skin so I guess now I need to learn how to play it...
are people learning this by ear?
