Excellent Video... I love these basic martial principals that are so important, universal for a lot of styles and... unfortunately, so over looked. Thanks Again
lookin svelte mate and as always, excellent transmission of the teachings based upon both theory and the rare practice that you have experienced during your career in law enforcement.
Great video sensei. It’s all about the alignment and the hip work. I did Isshinryu karate back in the day with the late Ernie Temple in NJ. They had great fighters. But something about the vertical fist just didnt convince me, so I moved to Shito Ryu. Same principles though. Keep up the good work 👍
Everbody can create power.. But precision and timing and correct moment is a different game.. These 3 laws go, s ABOVE punching power 👈 fact 🙏 gr karma 🙏
As usual, a very good video. Question please: if your fist is vertical, how would you strike with the top 2 knuckles? If you have a vertical fist and do a push up, wouldn't be the bottom 3 knuckles make contact first...?
@@AK_UK_ there is no difference when using the first two knuckles between the vertical and twist punch. The vertical punch is not unique to Isshin-Ryu. Many Chinese styles use the vertical punch. I have never had any difficulty striking with the vertical fist in actual combat.
Was hoping to hear more about the practical method Canon fist punching. The one that drills out to a backhand like punch. I imagine the same concepts apply?
Nice Hanshi. Thank you for doing what you do,

I'm doing the opposite, I teach Shito-ryu and am just starting Isshin-ryu
