This was great, man! I just started picking and bought a box of 1100's off ebay, and the security pins were giving me a really hard time. Seeing the gutting helped me out a lot and now I can picture the innards and read the clicks much more clearly.

These skills have helped save jobs at the mill when guys on the previous shift have went home and left their locks on breakers to lockout equipment. 😁

I’m surprised it took you a month, I bought 20 1100 American locks from eBay keyed different and was able to pick them all open the same day with no prior picking experience. I think what helped was the fact that they were new locks. Other than that congrats on your open and keep going!!

Thank you for checking it out! As American Locks come from factory I am certain that they are pinned at random and it is always a good idea to check them for optimization :)

I don't believe it. I just got my first open on an American 1100 after watching your video. And simply the advice working from the back to the front since pin 5 is serrated had to be where i was going wrong. I knew pin5 was serrated because I saw LPL's video taking one apart. I used a .050 Covert Instruments tension tool in the top of the keyway and an ancient Southord hook from my first pick set I've had forever, well since around 2005. It actually scared me when it popped open because i had just started working on it! lol. Man. I was actually having a crappy day. Thank you for helping to turn it around! Subscribed!
Edit: I just opened it a second time! Confirmed, Not a fluke!

EXCELLENT !! Your best video yet. Perfect angles and always focused.
And an excellent job picking all those security pins. Very good explanations of everything, and I learned something about how pin length affects security pins.
BTW: love that pinning tray. Is it from locklab?

@@HelpfulLockPicker I just ordered one...along with some other interesting stuff. I found it on lockpickshop through a link on locklab site. Best pinning tray I have seen. I like that it accommodates 7 pins, has separate slots for keypin driver spring and wafer. The design of the plug holders allow you to keep the key in them, this makes it easy to repin the plug to a key inserted in it. And a nice big deep section for other parts so you don't spill them. It's perfect. I've been looking for a tray like this for a while, thought I was going to have to get a piece of wood and make it myself with a router.
