The ortho is more for commercial headend applications. The idea is to
separate the polarizations and guide them to their own wave guides. This
cuts down on cross polarization interference and generally you get a
cleaner signal. The single orthomode feed is used by TV or radio
stations that need just a single polarization. In this case, they will
get the maximum S/N ratio because there is only one microwave
polarization bouncing around inside the feed.

I also we look at a prime focus Ku feed horn. This is the correct feed
horn needed to illuminate a prime focus dish, as opposed to an offset
dish. Many hobbyists complain that they can't get good ku results with a
c/ku combo feed. This is because that feed is not designed to
efficiently illuminate a prime focus dish. Also, some people use offset
feeds on their big prime focus dishes, but again, the illumination
pattern will be wrong because of the f/d mismatch and they will get poor
results. The correct ku feed horn to use is the one I sent you. It is
matched for f/d = 0.4 It has several layers of scalars the create a
broad illumination pattern and utilize the entire surface of the prime
focus reflector. This is the key to getting excellent ku signal
reception. You just have to make sure you get the feed positioned at the
phase center of the reflector. Only way to do this is by hand. It will
be very near the focal point, but you will have to experiment.
Unfortunately, these feeds are designed for 3 strut antennas, whereas
your mesh dish has 4 struts. You may have to improvise to get it
attached. You could try attaching it to a c band scalar ring with 3
screws.

DESCRIPTION
This is a dual output orthogonal C-Band feed horn used for simultaneous reception of Vertical and Horizontal microwaves.
It separates the vertical and horizontal polarities and conducts them to their own rectangular waveguides. Uses Gardiner or Norsat LNBs (sold separately) at the waveguide openings.
Note: This feed horn setup is typically used by cable head-ends to allow switching of both polarities to multiple decoders/receivers. You can also use it on a single receiver home satellite setup by using a 2x1 Voltage switch (sold separately).
FEATURES
Precision cast-aluminum construction
INCLUDES
Dual Mode C-Band Feedhorn
Scalar Ring
Mounting Screws

Our latest Ku-Band Prime-Focus LNBF featuring high gain, low noise and excellent stability. This LNBF will broaden the feed beam for correct illumination of a C-band dish.
This LNBF is matched for a dish f/D = (0.35 - 0.45) to give you the right illumination to receive Ku band satellite signals on a prime-focus 180cm, 210cm, 240cm, 300cm, 350cm or 400cm dish.
NOTE: Use this LNBF to turn your prime-focus reflector into a POWERFUL ku-band prime focus dish!
NOTE: Do NOT make the mistake of using an offset ku LNBF (f/D = 0.6) on a prime focus dish (f/D = 0.38) because only a small part of the reflector will be illuminated and signal gain will be limited.
NOTE: If you have a spare C-band dish sitting around, this is the LNBF you need to convert it to a POWERFUL ku-band antenna to catch those weak and elusive ku-band signals. Works with both solid and mesh antennas.

Precision cast-aluminum construction
High-Gain and Low-Noise
9.75 GHz and 10.6 GHz L.O.

Hi
Can you make a video to compaire the C band recepion from normal vs orthomode signal ?
Specially on weaker signals ..
Hi Robbie im putting 10 feet dish back is super dish c/ku band
Time for some stainless steel bolts ... no rust problems in the future.
I can use this LNB on my C-band mesh antenna to receive Ku-band channels. I even almost modified it to turn it into sheet metal until I discovered your video. Is it also possible to enlarge the diameter? I'm in West Africa it's for distant signals
Love your videos I can remember installing these big Dishes back in the glory days. I was in high school lol and even remember punching numbers on videocipher 2 boards lol. Chaparral used to have I believe the ice LNB or maybe it was California amplifier people raved these as well. One of my favourite receivers back then was the Fujitsu 10 or one of the General Instrument units where pretty awesome.
That's awesome. ua-cam.com/video/lLsB0cctK3c/v-deo.html
Amigo me puedes ayudar... new in banda c, tengo un lnb like that, but i can't use, just use 1 lnb, the other out. How found really.
Hello dear friend
C band
This is a 5g lmb /normal lmb
Please Tall me
Normal LNB but will filter noise!

There is no special need of 13/18v switch, you xan use regular 2 port diseq switch. Isn't it so?
Some receivers you will have to have a vertical satellite set up and a Horizontal!

we are very similar

Ay lav you 😅😂😊👍👍👍👍👍👍😘🙋🐞❤️🤴
What receiver are you using in this video?
Hi, is it possible to use the orthomode feed horn with circular polarization by e.g. using a g10 plate or a waveguide polariser converting L/R unto V/H?
Great question I don't know. I don't think it came with the plate
@@RobbieStrike Can you test it? Would generate another nice video :-) If you are interested in using a polariser, just let me know. Replaces the plate and delivers 2 to 3db more gain
So with my 7.5ft C-Band /ku band Combo LNB from back in the 90s will this still work should I pick up a new FTA unit
YES A OLD LNB WILL WORK. Hopfully it does not have a polarity motor. they you will just get Vertical Channels. Is there power cables going to the LNB?
ottawaoctane I have everything on dish and wires However I would look at picking up a new Lnb combo as my old one had a motor for polarity. just wondering if you could recommend a good inexpensive receiver and a positioner or a c/ku combo only using it for one tv. My main goal is for English only. Would be nice if I could get ATV , CBC , NBC ABC Fox. What are your thoughts .. love your videos man it has been a long time since playing with these things rusty for sure

Good job 👏
Thank you
Just curious about the temperature setting on this LNB. Used to be the temp was one of the guides in buying a replacement. Now I guess that has changed too. Like your videos - keep them coming!
