- Fan-made music for a (sorta) galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy 3! (Yes it's fan-made, but I promise it's worth a listen, lol.).....
After encountering the peculiar galaxies in The Lost Dimension, Mario and/or Peach are both left with the final step before being home at last. The Wormhole. As mentioned in the D7 video, the entire Dimension acts as a wormhole to Mario and Peach's Dimension. But this final part, --oh boy.. It's very dark and... unsettling. The entire galaxy--er--area is a flashback.. There's an almost straight forward path of broken stone peices exactly like shown in this footage. There's pieces of Gusty Gale, Star Septer and Octofort around here scattered about in the distance. None of them quite exactly like their real galaxies. The skybox is a consistent gradient of green fading into black the farther ahead you look. And speaking of, the closer you get to the transitioning point, the darker everything gets. That is until, at the very end of the path, the definitive emd of the wormhole, which when jumped into, fades everything to white...

Hey! Ive listened to a lot of your SMG3 soundtrack, and I definitely think this is one of your better pieces. If you’re open to some criticism though, it also exemplifies the main way I think you could improve. In your compositions, I almost always really really like what’s going on in the background-your chord progressions are always unexpected and creative, and especially in this song, the climax at 0:36 really feels grand with all the support. But I think the melodies end up being a bit-and this may be harsh-unmemorable. And I think it’s because your melodies don’t have any real motivic ideas. What I mean is, a lot of times it feels like your melodies are just plucking arbitrary notes from the underlying chords in an arbitrary rhythm and contour. If you look at songs like Gusty Garden or Buoy base, they have repeated motivic ideas in the melody; gusty garden has a repeated motif in the melody at the beginning where the oboe and strings go half note tied to 8th note, then a quick 8th note double neighbor move, and that motif is transposed and varied over and over throughout the A section. It’s very memorable and catchy for that. Then later in the C section (the climax with the strings having the melody) it has a repeated contour motif, jumping up a large interval before resolving down. The key is, it’s repeated over and over and becomes very memorable. I think it’s things like that which will give your melodies more distinction and interest. It’s like how you create in-depth stories for your songs, rather than just releasing it and letting it be “you stomp on goombas” and whatnot. There are some motivic ideas in the melodies, but often they’re… a bit simple. Regardless, I hope you know we all appreciate your work!
Oh, hi!! Thank you SO MUCH for this in-depth constructive analysis! I take this criticism very seriously. Melodies are what the SMG's are known for!! I will certainly try to do something more interesting with them from here on out. Everything you've said here is very valid. I even thought the same myself and really tried to experiment more, (specifically Gusty Gale) but I still think work needs to be done. Adding on to your comment, Gusty Garden and Buoy Base do more than repeat the idea to make it memorable. If that were the case I think it'd be a counter intuitive tactic. They add on and on until they explode into melodic goodness. I've tried my hand at this with Skyfort, Quartz Spring, Starlight Forest etc.. What I agree with you most on is the lack of memorabilia with the melodies because of their simplicity. Well, let me rephrase that. The lack of structure to the melody. There's no such thing as a "too simple melody" (as the movie Amadeus proves a lot) This is THE thing I've been trying to work on since I started composing. I think it's something more difficult to master than it seems and are what most beginning composers struggle from. Of course, feel free to disagree. Your comment has truly waken me up though and now, (or atleast in my upcoming next UST) I will try to put most of my effort on crafting a memorable melody and figuring out a way to drill it into people's heads like an evil earworm. Maybe this is why the Bowser themes are my favorite, I really like their motif
Ideas for D8, first galaxy: iron garden galaxy, a place near the center of reality itself. Second galaxy: twilight stardom galaxy, legends say that this particular galaxy is home to a secret gateway to the mystical mirrored twilight realm a place that connects to all realities, twilight stardom is also at the center of reality itself which means that it was created first, so there be even more secrets about ancient history than those who have found there way here already. Third galaxy: spirit plaza galaxy, a place where you can see those who have passed on and fulfilled their dreams and purposes, but beware of going too deep within… fourth galaxy: shivering labyrinth galaxy, due to the strange aura that the power stars at twilight stardom and any of its neighbor galaxies have the secret gateway has now been revealed, but once you enter you may find more disturbing things than you could possibly imagine, as if someone or something came before you and has corrupted it in their image… fifth galaxy: mirrored twilight realm, you have made it. The place that was once thought to be a myth was in front of your eyes! But something else had gotten there before you… something that had been pulling the strings of everything from the very beginning far before this adventure… be prepared to face the true evil behind everything and save existence as we know it before it’s too late…

Thank you!! It's certainly not the last track, but it's the last of the fully original galaxies. Of course, there's still a whole dimension left which IS the final part of the game. I will do bossfights, and prankster comets, as well as some cutscenes and additional areas In the story. As for afterward, I don't have an exact set plan on what to do since it's still pretty far away, but I'm pretty confident I think, right now, I know that I'll do another UST of a commonly talked about game

I love the mix of unsettling yet serine, not so often I come across it outside of mario galaxy stuff. And you freaking nail it every time! Also keen on seeing what awaits mario and peach on the other side, is it really home?... 👀

Hiyo!! I really appreciate that you listen to my music so much! I really wish I had a good answer to give you, but I don't use anything from the real games... I will say in this song, the voices is the sopranos from EastWest general midi. I changed the attack speed and added a delay to make it sound the way it is. As for what people call "the space whistle" it's just the theremin sound that comes with Ableton Live 11. I really recommend EastWest's composer cloud subscription and Ableton Live although they can be pricey. I hope this helped, I'm sorry I don't have a definitive answer!! Feel free to ask me more, I'm always willing to help out a fellow composer!

@@Ri0GenMusic I like that kind of music, especially if it’s catchy like this one. I also love that in your description of the galaxy you mention how there’s bits of other galaxies found in the level. I love when games give throwbacks to older areas, big or small. I’ve always wondered what a galaxy would look like if it had pieces of planets from other levels. (Fortnite, another game I play, does stuff like that occasionally as well with its locations)
@@galacjack2003I've actually heard/seen what fortnite did with that, it's pretty awesome! But I'm imagining certain recognizable planets from each of these galaxies, far enough away in the distance as to not feel reachable, but close enough to be recognized.
