This is an amazing video. I moved from Colombia to the USA 8 years ago. And I just miss my simple, colorful, yet beautiful life that I never really valued until I am here in USA, living paycheck to paycheck. Stressful with jobs and the problem is the short amount of vacation that they give here. There is no life to work balance. Here people live to work. In Colombia you work to live. I just dislike so much USA.
Don't kid yourself, you are taking advantage of the currency exchange. The average colombian are working paycheck to paycheck and would kill to make money that american do.

I hear you mano! My wife is from Colombia. In 4 years we are retiring to Bucaramanga. That is the plan anyway. The USD we have saved will go twice as far and the life is much better than in the USA. Ciudad de Parques!! If the Communists win out we will go elsewhere in South America. But the USA is in such a crazy state of affairs these days. I have seen it getting worse since about the year 2000. Americans are just, I don't know, ANGRY people. In general, not all.
@@somewherestuckinl.a.3239 I live paycheck to paycheck only because I pay as much to myself FIRST and do not touch it. I count my investments about once every couple of months when I have time. But I judge my standing upon how much I have in my cash savings account only. When that gets to a comfort point, I withdraw and invest a good chunk. Then I feel poor again and aggressively save to fill up the savings to the comfort point. Oh, I will retire to Colombia if the political environment is sound. USD goes twice as far there. As for what LosPoemas said, he is spot on about the USA. It is in decline. Mass, senseless killings will only rise in the angry USA as they have been since the 1990's. It is the hustle culture in part that is the cause. The other part is keeping up appearances, rampant "STUFF" consumerism, etc. La vida en Colombia es CHILL!
Retired early and moved to Spain 4 years ago. Best idea ever. Great country and people are very friendly. The healthcare system is miles ahead of anything the US has to offer.

AMERICA is NOT "America" anymore ! For those of us born in the mid-20th Century, our nation has changed DRAMATICALLY - and NOT for the BETTER ! As retirees living on Social Security pensions (after working all our lives), we are now finding it difficult to "make ends meet". The cost of basics like food, gasoline, insurance, and medical needs has risen TERRIBLY in the last 10 years. We know folks who have moved to Latin America and even Ireland - and they LOVE IT. Time to start packing our bags !
@@jamescampbell8845 Really ? Is "OK" good enough ? The USA used to be a place where folks who worked all their lives could retire with DIGNITY and NOT have to worry about paying constantly increasing prices for food, insurance, taxes, and basic necessities.
If all you have is social security you can't live in the US. You are moving out of necessity, not desire. You are trying to convince yourself that the US is the problem when it's your poor financial management that is the problem.
I live in Ireland. I have dual nationality - US and Ireland. I lived in the US for 10 years. The BIGGEST problem in the US IMHO is the lack of vacation time. In Ireland (and the EU) ALL workers get at least 20 vacation days per year (more vacation days in France and Germany). And these vacation days don't include weekends! Also, in Ireland there are 10 public holidays. So if you work a conventional 8 -5 / Monday - Friday job you're going to have 134 days off per year. Americans are worn out and stressed - they need more time off!
I think you're better off staying in Ireland. The US has been known for a while as being NOT the place to live. Seems to be a recent phenomenon that Americans are only just realising there's better places. Love from Melbourne Australia.
I have dual US & Irish citizenship as well and currently work for an Irish company but based in the states mainly for family reasons otherwise I would be living in Ireland as well. My work is 100% remote so can work from anywhere.
Broke, in debt, unemployed, hopeless, alone, and clueless to what to do with my life. All I know is I absolutely hate America , the people here are so greedy and nasty. I just don't think it's that different or better anywhere else. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. God helps us
Hey Im really sorry to hear you're not doing well. I can't promise you'll find good people by changing location, but I can tell you that the culture in America does bring out in people exactly what you're talking about. Our capitalistic ideas have given us all the "im gonna get mine" mentality and it makes things ugly and superficial. You're not alone in feeling like you do.
@Nature Over Malls You could look into Volunteering. I know a guy who was a volunteer on an organic farm in Italy for a year. Learned to speak Italian well, learned to cook Italian Mama style. My wife and left . We live in South America/ Colombia. It’s been the best experience. If you want to work together I would enjoy working to help others do the same. A couple could live an upscale life on only a social security check here.
Colombia is a 3hr direct flight from Florida with six or seven different airlines which means the airfares are competitive. Sometimes cheaper to fly from Miami to Bogota or Medellin than it is to Los Angeles or Seattle. So staying in Colombia is comparable to Mexico in that regards.
Nick - This is by far your best presentation ever! Very well scripted and informational, the videography and lighting is perfect, the text overlays are great, and your delivery is spot on. Very well done. The only thing I would add is to enable chapters in the video as viewers (like myself) may want to re-watch segments. Really good work here.
Hey thanks, that means a lot! I will look into doing the chapters...I've seen other people doing that and I thought it was supposed to happen on its own, so maybe I just don't have the right setting updated? I'll look into it and see if I can figure it out 😀
This is very helpful, and has given me a lot to think about. I live in the Southwest, and have met a lot of people (most retired, but not all), looking at expating in Mexico, which is right next door. And given the recent political headwinds of the US (no need to elaborate), Mexico might be a good place to start if or when the time comes. Belize is another option, as well.
Belize is a terrible option unless you can't learn Spanish no matter how many times you've tried, but even then I think I would just choose a tourist spot in Mexico to live where over 50% of the locals know conversational Spanish or at least close to it and some are even fluent.
My family migrated to the US from Spain, and seeing how everything is going I have thought about relocating to our motherland. Plus with my job I can relocate out there so I will give it a try! Cheers 😎

One thing I would like people to understand that often gets overlooked. You might be leaving your "9-5 rat race" in the US, only to find yourself back in a "9-5 rat race" in the country you moved to. This is exactly what happened with me. I left my miserable 9-5 in the US in 2014, moved abroad to live in Thailand where I have dual citizenship, only to end up working another 9-5 despite being in different country. Living in another country you will first go through a "honeymoon phase" where everything is new and exciting. But after a while, if you don't "love what you do," you will be just as miserable as your were in the US. So if you're a teacher/hotel manager in the US, being a teacher/hotel manager in a foreign country won't solve your happiness or problems. Another thing is that if you find a "local job," you won't be paid in US dollars but rather in their local currency where salaries are VERY LOW by US standards. This whole idea that living abroad and taking advantage of "currency arbitrage" only works if you earn money in USD. Countries like Thailand, Mexico, etc is only cheap if you earn USD. But if you earn the local currency by working a local job, don't expect to be "balling out" and "living like a king."
@@NickDemski Right, but you have a few chapters in this video dedicated to NOT working online (ie. Highly skilled worker, teaching English, Local Jobs). That's what my comment was referencing. But yes, online would be preferred though most people who have never made money online don't know how stressful it can be (I've done SEO/PPC/FB ads, Amazon FBA, affiliate marketing, etc so I've been around the block). It's tougher than most videos on YT make it look.
So quick question Dean. I want to move to Australia and live/work there. The country is a bit more expensive than the US, but the work/lifestyle is way better than America. I see what you mean though. But the US lifestyle is so bizarre that I don't know how people can live here. What job did you have in the US that made you miserable? The only thing is countries outside the US have better benefits and vacation time. Sure, some countries pay less than US, but you get all that vacation time, one month off. If you good at handling money and managing it, you can get by in other countries where the currency is different. What job you have now in Thailand?
@@Melbester9 I agree with you the US lifestyle is very bizarre. I prefer not to share my personal details, but what I can say is my lifestyle in Thailand is way better than what it was in the US (mostly due to cost of living). For example, rent & utilities combined is only 15% of my net take home pay, food another 15%. When your necessities make up only 30% of your net income, you have so much less stress, way more freedom and enjoyment in life. Most of my friends living in NYC or DC pay more in rent each month than what I spend in an entire month in Thailand.
Even learning to understand the language doesn't mean you'll be a fluent speaker. Often, especially in Japan, you will always be painfully aware of how much of an outsider you really are.

Cannot stay in Mexico long term with a tourist visa anymore. Travelers are no longer given 180 days by default. The number of days granted can arbitrarily be anywhere from 3 to 180 days depending on the whim of the immigration officer. It is no longer possible to leave Mexico for a day and be granted another 180 days either. So yes a residency permit is required and they do check and crack down on people overstaying their tourist visas. So better to get a residency permit from the consulate before going. There's a Mexican consulate in every major city in the U.S. and in smaller cities and towns near the border or with a high number of Mexicans such as El Paso TX or San Bernardino CA.
I get the feeling Mexico knows how popular it's becoming for travelers and expats and is looking to both limit the numbers of them living there while increasing their earnings off of them.

Watch here: ua-cam.com/play/PLjOiDy0gxnH7FMW170iE1CHdpFxCPOVFd.html If I were you and going to make that jump to Asia, I would plan on getting a "real job" first while also building out the UA-cam channel, because growing a YT channel takes time and it will be good to have some income while you do that. For "real jobs", you'll find examples in the videos I mention, but I've taught Math in Hong Kong, English in Colombia, ran a summer camp in Vietnam, and managed a hostel in Costa Rica, and I did all that while also building out this UA-cam channel. I would also look into freelancing and other social media monetization strategies. Some of those things I also discuss in the playlist I linked above. Honestly, I've been thinking about making more videos on how to make money online. Not many of my viewers watch them and I don't get a lot of views on them, but I think they are important and I have a lot of experience in that realm.

Nice video, thank you. One important omission though - as a US citizen or permanent resident you are required to file a tax return annually even though you reside abroad and 100% of your income is sourced outside the US. You get a hefty deduction for earned income sourced outside the US, but even if it means your US tax liability is zero, you still have to file. You also have to report on overseas bank accounts. Being a US person will also limit you in terms of financial investments. My son was born in Puerto Rico and has now renounced - at a cost of $2,300. That is a rigmarole and, if you have been naughty, you will have to file for about five (?) years back, not just the latest year. More inexpensive compliance may be possible through HR Block since there are now so many US people leaving their homeland. I've been using a US accountant for my US source income but it has been quite expensive.
@Ariel-zg2gj That's what I'm doing. US system is a joke. College is expensive, you get into debt because it costs too much in tuition and you graduate in debt not guaranteed a job. So why should I be guaranteed debt? Everything in US is so backwards. I know I'm better off in Australia 🇦🇺. Country is a joke and you gotta do everything backwards just to get around the loopholes of the US system.
I hear ya, thankfully if you leave the United States there are lots of high-quality private insurance options around the world. And they're much more affordable than what we pay for healthcare in the USA.

I like that you mentioned about health needs when consdering a move. I am an on/off blood cancer patient, and i often feel tethered to my NCI here in the US. I know my wife wants to get out of here, and i always wonder if it's a fantasy or if it's something we could actually achieve, with my needing to possibly enter into future treatments, etc. Or maybe once we leave the US and all the stress and smog of LA, my cancer will never return. Makes you wonder, huh?
Agreed... I was wondering the same thing. My husband is type 1 diabetic and due to retire in 9 years. I've already applied for citizenship via descent to my grandfather's native island in the Caribbean. My husband can piggy back citizenship once mine goes through. But insurance is huge for us as well as our social security in the near future but not sure if we would be eligible if we leave to move there😔. So I'm still trying to figure things out...
I bet your health with have a drastic change for the better if you left America and your medical expenses would be a fraction of the price or maybe even erased!
@Ariel-zg2gj I don't know. This is one of the major worries for me. Insurance covered most of my treatments, including various chemotherapies, clinical trials with immunotherapies, and a stem cell transplant so far. I kind of wonder when they get to the point where they can start to fight back against paying for my treatments, you know? And then, if we moved countries, what new health care system is going to want that extra cost from someone like me, who may need continued treatments, etc? I have worked full-time nearly, so it's not like I'm not contributing back to economy, but still.
I have to admit it's crossed my mind in recent years due to the rising crime and regulations, but that old time American country/small town vibe that I grew up with is still strong especially in the south. I like to hunt and I like guns so I guess I'm too American to move lol. I've always wanted to visit a Central American country like Belize and possibly stay there for a couple months. You're right though about the food. I really try to eat food grown by small organic farmers or wild game. If not I read labels which is quite sad that one must do that. Most of the food sold in stores contributes to our obesity epidemic. It also causes many other health problems. A lot of restaurant portions contain more salt and sugar than what one should consume in a day. I am getting close to being able to buy a nice tract of land out in the boonies and start a homestead.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but as an American citizen you are liable for U.S. income tax no matter where in the world you earn it. There is a considerable concession for income tax paid to a foreign government, but it has a limit. As far as I know there is only one legal way to avoid this: renounce your U.S. citizenship. I have no idea the ramifications of such an act on your future Social Security benefits, Medicare benefits, or ability to buy a medical plan on a U.S. healthcare exchange.
Europe is a great start because the VISA goes across borders and so does the train. I enjoyed a great train ride directly from the airport in Frankfort Germany all the way to Southern Italy. It also goes to France and England. Eastern Europe isnt over touristed, more picturesque than you would think and people are more educated and cultured than expected. South American air travel is cheap once you're in country and buses are common. I rode on the most comfortable bus Ive ever seen in Ecuador, cost $5.

How do we find the cheapest places to reside? Is there a reputable agency that we can work through before leaving to obtain the cheapest residency? Thanks so much for your video
Yeah i probably misspelled it. In terms of finding cheapest place to live, it’s always best to do the ‘footwork’. You might find some good deals on Facebook marketplace or in Facebook groups about local rentals/real estate. But I’ve found the cheapest places to live are unadvertised online. I walk/bike/drive around and look for rent signs and call them. There are always agencies that can help with residency. But usually it’s something you can do on your own.
I recommend actually watching my video before making a statement like that. You'll see that an escape plan from the USA does not require much money at all. You could literally walk across the border of Mexico and it would cost less than $100 to be out.
sir most respectfully I came from abroad here if you even work here even on minimum wage you can make millions when countries like paksian India China korea they only pay us like 70 dollar per month when every thing is super expensive so I don't agree with you without money the life will be bad anywhere as usa always feed everyone lots of work and security

Very doable, especially if you can work as an English teacher. If you are so inclined, go for it. I left the US five years ago, and I am not going back.
I left the United states for good to seek asylum after everything I own was extorted from me and law enforcement helped the criminals who did it.The united states is not liberty and justice for all anymore.Justice is for sale to the highest bidder.I love our constitution written by our great fourfathers. Those who work in our justice system ignore our wonderful constitution in favor of pay offs.I have traveled much of the world seeking asylum and have yet to find anywhere an American can live with out lots of money. The world loves money not people. This is a disfuctional world and if we don't learn to love one another very soon it will cease to exist.
I sold my home in Az and moved to El Salvador the safest country in latin America ! Easy to get permanent resident here and cheap cost of living $1000 a month you live well!
I used WIFI calling in Taiwan, and you can make calls and receive text messages without issue. My phone basically behaves the same as it does in the USA. WIFI is pretty much available everywhere.
Is like that everywhere in the world. Housing is so expensive. You can leave with a remote job that does not stress you as much and move to a really cheap country. Cus is the same outcome if you get a job at that country where you move to. Most jobs are underpaid
As an art teacher in south France I notice every year some unitedstatians students or with roots living here with their family migrating not company expats.

In Brazil it is 30 days paid vacation for all workers. And Carnival alone is a 4 day-holiday.
I have dual US & Irish citizenship as well and currently work for an Irish company but based in the states mainly for family reasons otherwise I would be living in Ireland as well. My work is 100% remote so can work from anywhere.
I've a 10-day assignment with a 2100 USD payout, so happy I got onto this gig. It'll have a lot of savings in Oct

Move to the populated areas rural places have cartel violence
@Eric V you mean migrate
Mexico has raised the amount of money you need for residency dramatically.

💯! You nailed it. Happiness is in the mind. Not in places and or things.
This is why I emphasize working online and earning in USD.
There are two countries I have strongly considered moving to: Japan and Finland. It helps I’m learning both languages.
How's that going, friend?
That's got to be one of the most difficult goals I've ever heard.
Japan is worse than America with the overwork culture but it is much safer
Even learning to understand the language doesn't mean you'll be a fluent speaker. Often, especially in Japan, you will always be painfully aware of how much of an outsider you really are.
Moved to Japan 2 years ago, its nice but it is hard to feel like you belong especially if you don't look asian. I am fluent in japanese but I always somehow end up in a team with just foreigners at work. I think they mean it to be kind and makes things easier for us but always feels like we are excluded in some ways. Compared to the u.s still a way better experience. As an immigrant i've experienced direct racism in the u.s many times but never in japan
Don't move to Japan the working culture there is even worse than the US

I wanna be you.
How did you do that? I’m 36 and nowhere near that level of living

Lived in California my whole life i want out i hate the rat race cycle here just exist to pay bills no life no freedom nothing. I've been researching websites earn income online pretty hard haven't found anything legit. I would like to go to either the Philippines cebu or bali indonesia. I want to start a youtube channel and hopefully build it up get subs and start to make some money on the side i know its a bold move how realistic is this idea? i have about 5k laying around can keep me afloat for a few months.
Hey I've got a playlist here of some videos that might give you some good ideas about making money and traveling at the same time. It doesn't all have to be online. Watch here: ua-cam.com/play/PLjOiDy0gxnH7FMW170iE1CHdpFxCPOVFd.html
If I were you and going to make that jump to Asia, I would plan on getting a "real job" first while also building out the UA-cam channel, because growing a YT channel takes time and it will be good to have some income while you do that.
Usa is not a country its a busness no regards for human life
Google was my best friend (and still is) when I left the US 5 years ago.
Great Video 😊. I love my Beloved Country USA. However I don't like what is happening here in the states. Being destroyed from within.
I am retired (64) and I am Moving to the Philippines 🇵🇭 💕 this year in August too live out the rest of my day's.
I cant wait to leave next year I've been preparing for 2 years and I'm set to go. I believe it's going to get ugly in this country so I've chosen a country on another continent where I can buy land so I can live off it as much as possible and my business is location independent so I can go anywhere I want. It was fun but this country is going downhill too much greed and drama
Very practical tips.
Thank you👍
I bailed the US totally back in 2006. Sold everything, completly bailed, never to trturn, I saw the BS coming, and moved to Thailand, on a retirerment visa.
Thank you for this with the current roe v wade decision me and my wife are trying to leave. I am currently finishing my special education degree and I am now working on my TEFL. I hope to teach in Spain or Sweden. I am also getting my Irish citizenship through descent. So in about two years I will have that. So were just looking for places I can teach for about two years before I can make a more permeant home in Europe. Do you know of any countries in Europe that are in need of a Special ed teacher that me and my wife could move to?
I would imagine there is a need for your specialty in many places. If I were you, I'd start an account with TIEonline or SearchAssociates. Both are solid platforms to find international teaching jobs. I wouldn't stop looking there, but it's a great place to start and could be all you need. 🙏🙏🙏
@@NickDemski Thank you
I’d like to move to Japan, but no idea how or if I can. I hate the USA with a burning passion.
I left 10 years ago for Morocco. It's much better here. I will NEVER move back to that nasty American environment.
I’ve wanted to go there too sounds awesome
That's BS. So I'm screwed if I leave the US? That's so lame. What do I do to avoid that because I wanna go to Australia to work and live?
@@Melbester9America won’t be around much longer so how will they collect? I wouldn’t stress too much about it. Just leave if you’re able to!
Got to find a way to pay minimum taxes. The 1% the wealthy pay very little so why should we? Nonsense
Being an older couples I am interested in medical insurance with good coverage
I hear ya, thankfully if you leave the United States there are lots of high-quality private insurance options around the world. And they're much more affordable than what we pay for healthcare in the USA.
Europe
Europe isn't a ymore riots in Paris and no leadership, same with the uk. Healthcare is ridiculous u less you w a nt your local TRIBAL leader to check you out dig deep my friend
I’m planning my exit hopefully next year who else wants to go
I like that you mentioned about health needs when consdering a move.
I like your idea.
But did you know you can easily rent a machine gun in Thailand and have an afternoon at the range, too? 😬
@@NickDemski I never knew that. That’s quite interesting. The only thing I know about Thailand is apparently there’s some place that has been cooking the same cauldron of soup for 40 years. I bet that soup tastes amazing.
I've heard of that soup, but given the complexity of Thai cuisine, I'm unsure if I've ever eaten it.
Watching this to get my ass out of the incoming war
I was going to move to Florida . I just turned 65 and am going to retire . Florida is out but so is everything else. The US is way way to expensive and the country is filled with crime and Angry angry people, so I'm out !
How do you actually apply for visa after you’ve reached the 6 month limit? Can you use things such ass passports birth certificates etc…?
Hi there, thanks for the question! For which country are you referring?
@@NickDemski I am looking to move to Jamaica however I do not have any relatives am not married or looking for work there what would be the best option for actually applying for a visa there ( if needed)?
I'd find the nearest the Jamaican embassy and ask them about their options for Jamaican residency before heading down there. I just checked out the Chicago embassy's website and it's incredibly vague on the processes and they say to call them after you've filled out a simple form: jamaicanconsulatechicago.org/visas/#North_American_Tourists
Well done! Thank you!!
My pleasure!
Thanks for your helpful information 😊
I'm learning Russian and Spanish now via the Duolingo app and other websites. I would like to visit Russia but would prefer to live in Ireland. I definitely am going to get dual citizenship somewhere because the US is not for me.
Thanks again!! What areas around Medellin are more affordable but not too far from the action? Is Medellin very buggy or more like California. Seems Ike a perfect climate!
Itagui and Bello are less expensive on rent but still pretty close...you could even head out to Rionegro to find really inexpensive rent but you might need your own vehicle at that point for convenience to get to Medellin
@@NickDemski excellent feedback. Thanks! Hoping to be there mid June early July this year for the first visit

I have finally achieved the American dream: I'm a permanent resident of Mexico.
It feels as if living in the US 🇺🇸 is getting too expensive even if we're to have a side hustles. I was born and raised in sunny Cali, and honestly, as much as I would love to live independently, I'm not sure if I want to keep hustling to burnout forever. Which is why I'm considering either working or moving to live abroad 🤔
Yes, still gotta answer to the IRS no matter where you live as an American
Europe is a great start because the VISA goes across borders and so does the train. I enjoyed a great train ride directly from the airport in Frankfort Germany all the way to Southern Italy. It also goes to France and England. Eastern Europe isnt over touristed, more picturesque than you would think and people are more educated and cultured than expected.
South American air travel is cheap once you're in country and buses are common. I rode on the most comfortable bus Ive ever seen in Ecuador, cost $5.
Great video so far. I'm on the freelancing section at the moment. May I suggest reviewing the possible mis-speliing of Freelance or, is it supposed to be "Freelacing"? How do we find the cheapest places to reside? Is there a reputable agency that we can work through before leaving to obtain the cheapest residency? Thanks so much for your video
Yeah i probably misspelled it.
In terms of finding cheapest place to live, it’s always best to do the ‘footwork’. You might find some good deals on Facebook marketplace or in Facebook groups about local rentals/real estate. But I’ve found the cheapest places to live are unadvertised online. I walk/bike/drive around and look for rent signs and call them.
There are always agencies that can help with residency. But usually it’s something you can do on your own.
it's not possible if you are not millionaire!
It's definitely possible, especially if you get a job in another country.
If anything, I feel like it's only possible to live IN America as a millionaire 😂
Ngl Ive been thinking about moving to the Philippines. I’ll have to save a lot and move! I can’t stand the government. Any time I listen to the news it just gets more and more stupid by the day

Very doable, especially if you can work as an English teacher. If you are so inclined, go for it. I left the US five years ago, and I am not going back.
thanks for sharing, i also recommend the teacher route! where did you end up at after leaving the states?
I left the United states for good to seek asylum after everything I own was extorted from me and law enforcement helped the criminals who did it.The united states is not liberty and justice for all anymore.Justice is for sale to the highest bidder.I love our constitution written by our great fourfathers. Those who work in our justice system ignore our wonderful constitution in favor of pay offs.I have traveled much of the world seeking asylum and have yet to find anywhere an American can live with out lots of money. The world loves money not people. This is a disfuctional world and if we don't learn to love one another very soon it will cease to exist.
Do you have a Facebook group where other nomads can socialize and network?

I used WIFI calling in Taiwan, and you can make calls and receive text messages without issue. My phone basically behaves the same as it does in the USA. WIFI is pretty much available everywhere.
Is like that everywhere in the world. Housing is so expensive. You can leave with a remote job that does not stress you as much and move to a really cheap country. Cus is the same outcome if you get a job at that country where you move to. Most jobs are underpaid
